Abstract: An ionization source is disclosed for use with mass spectrometers and electron capture species detectors having an ionization light source excited so as to illuminate a fluid sample which flows past the light source whereby electrons are photoelectrically generated by a light source. Means are also provided to accelerate the photoelectrons and to extract heavy ions generated by the accelerated photoelectrons from the fluid sample. Further means are provided to focus the extracted heavy ions so that they may be detected. Also included is a means to maintain a vacuum between the light source and the sample and the detector.

Abstract: A laser apparatus employing a solid state lasing element pumped by a controlled pump providing pump power of adjustable amplitude, constant over the controllable duration of pumping. The laser apparatus thus embodied providing the means for producing and amplifying laser pulses of coherent radiation having generally rectangular pulse shape.
Abstract: A self-actuating drip valve for attachment to a standard faucet for the prevention of freezing of exposed water pipes. An elongated housing includes means for securing one end of the housing about the open end of the faucet. A valve seat is provided within the housing so that it is substantially adjacent to the faucet when the device is in use. Substantially concentric extendible walls extend between the elongated housing and a base plate. A valve stem, terminating in a valve tip, is secured to the base plate and extends within the extendible walls. The base plate may be adjusted by threadable means for moving the valve relative to the valve seat.
Abstract: The specification describes an improved gaming token which includes, among other features, a relatively flat non-metallic annular ring having injection-molded indicia thereon bounded by sharp and durable color lines. This ring also includes an inner coin-support annulus which extends into a central opening of the ring and receives flat back-to-back metal slugs or discs on each surface thereof to retain these discs permanently in place once they are welded together. Since the outer coin surfaces are flush with the major surfaces of the flat non-metallic annular ring, this construction renders removal of the metal coins quite difficult. In one embodiment of the invention, this coin-support annulus is integral with a single unitary plastic annular ring which includes regions of injection-molded indicia thereon which are flush with both major and minor surfaces of the ring and are bounded by the sharp and durable color lines as noted above.
Abstract: The heating of a tunable-acoustic optical filter (TAOF) results in a drift in the calibration of the TAOF as the acoustic-optical medium temperature varies. In practicing the invention, the TAOF is calibrated by combining it in tandem with a broad band light source and a cell containing a medium that absorbs light at a known wave number. The TAOF is tuned to minimize the light transmitted through the elements, thereby tuning the TAOF to the wave number of maximum absorption which is a calibrated standard.
Abstract: A portable two-part fastening device having a female section including a keyhole, a spring within the female section, and a ridge supported by the spring, an open channel in the female section contiguous with the narrow dimension of the keyhole, and means for mounting the female section to one part of the device. A male section comprises a button larger than the keyhole but having a width less than the open channel, with a flattened stud connecting said button to the other part of the two device. The button has an indentation on the outer face thereof of a geometrical configuration so as to mate with the ridge on the spring.

Abstract: A novel structural member, such as a tennis racket, and the method for making same, provides a high strength to weight ratio. The structural member of this invention consists of a fiberglass shell which surrounds a syntactic foam core. The fiberglass shell may be further selectively reinforced with a ribbon which is formed from a high strength fiber such as boron fibers, graphite fibers, aramid fibers, etc. Because the structure of this invention incorporates a high strength to weight ratio it can be utilized in the manufacture of rackets of conventional and radical design. This invention relates to a structural member consisting of a tennis racket having a high strength to weight ratio.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a packing apparatus which comprises a container opening at its upper end and at least one film suction chamber positioned under the container and is connected to an appropriate absorbing device. The container defines a packing chamber for holding a part of a packing film in a baggy shape and receiving products to be packed therein. The suction chamber defines a chamber communicating with the absorbing device. The chamber further communicates with the packing chamber through a plurality of vent holes for creating a partial vocuum under the packing film.
Abstract: A clip for retaining molding to a predetermined inside face of a window glass receiving frame in an automotive body having a band-like support plate formed of an elastic material. The support plate includes a hook member formed integrally with the support plate to thereby define a spacing for insertion of the molding between the window glass receiving frame and the hook member and elastically engageable with the molding and a pair of wing plates formed at both outermost ends of the support plate and bent in a direction opposite to the retaining face of the support plate. The wing plates have a mechanism engageable with the support plate while the wing plates are bent substantially to 180.degree. and another mechanism effective to disengage the wing plates with the support plate, upon insertion of the molding in the spacing between the frame and the hook member of the clip.
Abstract: A construction industry teaching game for developing skills in building, finance, accounting, OSHA regulations, specialty construction and the like. A game board having a track divided into areas which direct specified actions to be taken is used with dice and game pieces and a plurality of decks of cards relating to the particular job, labor factors, research and penalties. Forms are provided for bid submittals, annual accounting and determination of fixed costs.
Abstract: The present invention is a system for the detection of chemical vapors in the atmosphere based on detecting radiation from the molecules of the vapor. The radiation is induced by energy transmitted from the system at a frequency close to an absorption frequency of the molecules of the vapor to be detected. The system provides a easily used means for the excitation and detection of the vapor by virtue of the common tuning control of the system and the direct detection of radiation at the absorption frequency excited by the transmitted energy.
Abstract: A bar connector is provided whereby, when the connector is in a locked position on a transformer bushing, a set screw is provided having a conical tapered end. An internally threaded bore hole is selectively provided in the connector at a point such that, when the connector is secured on the transformer bushing, the tapered conical end of the set screw bears against the chamfer of the threaded stud of the transformer, thereby locking the connector in place without damaging the threads of the stud. By utilizing this method for locking the transformer stud, thus eliminating the present lock nut, a completely insulated and sealed transformer bus is gained. An insulating cover positioned at the threaded end of the bar connector provides a flexible cylindrical base which, under thread pressure, seals the juncture of the transformer bushing with the insulated end of the bar connector. After threading the bar connector over the transformer stud, the stud is locked in place, as previously described.
