  • Patent number: 4435911
Abstract: The specification describes an improved gaming token which includes, among other features, a relatively flat non-metallic annular ring having injection-molded indicia thereon bounded by sharp and durable color lines. This ring also includes an inner coin-support annulus which extends into a central opening of the ring and receives flat back-to-back metal slugs or discs on each surface thereof to retain these discs permanently in place once they are welded together. Since the outer coin surfaces are flush with the major surfaces of the flat non-metallic annular ring, this construction renders removal of the metal coins quite difficult. In one embodiment of the invention, this coin-support annulus is integral with a single unitary plastic annular ring which includes regions of injection-molded indicia thereon which are flush with both major and minor surfaces of the ring and are bounded by the sharp and durable color lines as noted above.

  • Patent number: 4422154
Abstract: The heating of a tunable-acoustic optical filter (TAOF) results in a drift in the calibration of the TAOF as the acoustic-optical medium temperature varies. In practicing the invention, the TAOF is calibrated by combining it in tandem with a broad band light source and a cell containing a medium that absorbs light at a known wave number. The TAOF is tuned to minimize the light transmitted through the elements, thereby tuning the TAOF to the wave number of maximum absorption which is a calibrated standard.

  • Patent number: 4399992
Abstract: A novel structural member, such as a tennis racket, and the method for making same, provides a high strength to weight ratio. The structural member of this invention consists of a fiberglass shell which surrounds a syntactic foam core. The fiberglass shell may be further selectively reinforced with a ribbon which is formed from a high strength fiber such as boron fibers, graphite fibers, aramid fibers, etc. Because the structure of this invention incorporates a high strength to weight ratio it can be utilized in the manufacture of rackets of conventional and radical design. This invention relates to a structural member consisting of a tennis racket having a high strength to weight ratio.

  • Patent number: 4385516
Abstract: The present invention is a system for the detection of chemical vapors in the atmosphere based on detecting radiation from the molecules of the vapor. The radiation is induced by energy transmitted from the system at a frequency close to an absorption frequency of the molecules of the vapor to be detected. The system provides a easily used means for the excitation and detection of the vapor by virtue of the common tuning control of the system and the direct detection of radiation at the absorption frequency excited by the transmitted energy.

  • Patent number: 4382651
Abstract: A bar connector is provided whereby, when the connector is in a locked position on a transformer bushing, a set screw is provided having a conical tapered end. An internally threaded bore hole is selectively provided in the connector at a point such that, when the connector is secured on the transformer bushing, the tapered conical end of the set screw bears against the chamfer of the threaded stud of the transformer, thereby locking the connector in place without damaging the threads of the stud. By utilizing this method for locking the transformer stud, thus eliminating the present lock nut, a completely insulated and sealed transformer bus is gained. An insulating cover positioned at the threaded end of the bar connector provides a flexible cylindrical base which, under thread pressure, seals the juncture of the transformer bushing with the insulated end of the bar connector. After threading the bar connector over the transformer stud, the stud is locked in place, as previously described.
