  • Patent number: 4365617
Abstract: The invention basically includes a movable base which contains a plurality of hyperbolic mirror reflectors having their axis directed upwardly towards an absorber plate and which is directed upon an energy converting unit. The solar energy is absorbed by the unit and is used to heat a gas such as air which is circulated through the unit, with the heat being subsequently stored in a heat absorbing particulate material such as lava rock or the like. Additionally, the movable platform is controlled by a gravity drive (for very low power consumption during operation) and which is in turn controlled by a photoelectric solar detector mechanism. The detector mechanism is so designed that it receives the early rays of light of the sun and signals the control system to commence tracking the sun.

  • Patent number: 4309831
Abstract: A shoe is provided including a standard upper and a sole, with the sole comprising a base extending from the toe of the shoe to the heel of the shoe with a plurality of cleats subtending from the sole. The forward edge of the cleats subtends from the sole rearwardly at a predetermined angle from the vertical of the basic sole surface. Preferably, the rearward edge of the cleat is substantially flat. This provides an action whereby, when the wearer is running, the foot will strike the ground and the cleats will bend backward allowing the foot to continue its forward motion until it reaches a more gradual stop than normally occurs in any other running shoe. Additionally, there is provided a means for continually venting a shoe while it is being worn, and which may be used with the above described shoe or independently in other shoes.

  • Patent number: 4288967
Abstract: A heat sealing device in a packaging apparatus utilizing a plastic film for continuously seal an overlapped axial portion of the plastic film. The device comprises a pair of heating rollers which are rotatably and oppositely placed to hold the overlapped portion of the film between them. Each of the heating rollers has a heating surface in its outer periphery which is pressed against the film and a coaxial and annular sealed chamber which is formed inside the heating surface and contains working liquid as a heat medium. A heat source is provided to be opposite at least to a portion of the sealed chamber to heat the working liquid. The working liquid generates vaporized gas upon heating by the heat source, and the pressure and the temperature in the sealed chamber are maintained at a predetermined degree so that the vaporized gas is condensed substantially at the temperature for fusing the film.

  • Patent number: 4206314
Abstract: An X-Y coordinate position locating or measuring digitizing device in which a cursor (inductor), moveable within an electromagnetic field generated by successively activated grid wires, develops a voltage from the field, and, in conjunction with conditioning circuits, yields the electrical intelligence required to indicate its position with a high degree of precision. Currents are successively passed through parallel grid lines for a given axis at discretely separate distances, the resultant successively generated field inducing a time variant voltage at the cursor coil output with amplitude and phase dependent upon the position of the cursor in relation to the actuated grid line. Conditioning circuitry to which the cursor coil output is coupled uniquely detects the phase reversal in the cursor coil output signal, interprets this reversal point in a manner which very accurately and linearly relates cursor position to time, and generates a "STOP" pulse indicating that the above phase reversal has been sensed.
