  • Patent number: 6773012
Abstract: A method for playing a card game in which two columns of cards of given point value are dealt to each player and in which the player with the lowest point difference between the two columns of cards is the winner. The game is ideally suited to be played at home and for casino play with a casino dealer, particularly since there is no need for the players to handle the cards. In addition, other games such as Three-Card Poker and Double Three-Card Poker can be played as integral elements of the basic game.

  • Patent number: 6599082
Abstract: A system is provided for the integration of freight transportation from the producers work site to the freight carrier, including any intermediate carriers using carriers adapted for carrying motor vehicles. The system of the invention allows a producer to load a module at the work site, move the module directly from the work site to a vehicle carrier for a return trip, which it would normally make empty, carrying general freight. The present system adapts vehicle carriers for carrying general freight by utilizing a portable module that is carried by the vehicle carrier in substantially the same way as a vehicle to carry general freight. The system of the invention is applicable both to rail vehicle carriers and ships especially adapted for carrying vehicles as well as to over-the-road vehicle carriers.

  • Patent number: 6600016
Abstract: Multifunctionalized support resin for the solid phase synthesis of combinatorial libraries is disclosed. The support resin comprises a resin backbone to which is attached a template containing at least two more attachment points which carry mutiple functionalized benzyl-type linkers. Each linker displays differing chemical stability under cleavage conditions so that products can be selectively and sequentially cleaved and separated from the reaction vessel. The linkers are independently different benzyl-type moieties, and each product synthesized on the linkers may have a different chemical structure. The support resin may further comprise an additional linker which is directly attached to the resin backbone. This linker can benzyl-type linkers or other traditional cleavable-linkers. The invention is further directed to a method for the production of mutiple combinatorial libraries in a simultaneous fashion utilizing the above described support resin.

  • Patent number: 6443850
Abstract: A golf swing training device comprising a golf club having a head, shaft and grip and a piston assembly housing is disposed in the club head. A piston is disposed in the housing and is movable therein in a direction parallel to the shaft of the club. A spring loaded detent acts against the piston to retain it in an upper position in the housing. Air vents in the top and sole of the club head communicate with the interior of the housing to maintain atmospheric pressure within the housing and to prevent any resistance against the piston which would be caused by compressing air in the housing. As the club is swung the speed of the club head generates centrifugal force that, if sufficient, overcomes the retaining force of the detent and allows the piston to move downward in that housing toward the sole of the club. When the piston strikes a floor of the housing an audible click can be heard.

  • Patent number: 6358479
Abstract: The reaction block assembly of the invention comprises a reaction block in which are disposed a plurality of reaction wells. Influent and effluent ducts open at the upper face of the reaction block adjacent each of the reaction wells. These ducts provide communication between each reaction well and a source of reagents and gases and with waste removal means for removal of effluent from the reaction wells. A membrane sheet overlies the upper face of the reaction block to define a pneumatic valve to open and close the duct openings each of the reaction wells to control the input of reagents and gases and effluent flow from the reaction wells. The reaction block assembly preferably includes a temperature control block that underlies the reaction block for control of the temperature in the reaction wells. A waste block underlies the reaction block or, if used, the temperature control block.

  • Patent number: 6171111
Abstract: A device and method for demonstrating number theory is disclosed in which the device comprises a frame consisting of the plurality of spaced parallel rods which are secured at their ends to transverse members. The rods carry slidable members which are arranged to define an triangle having the same number members on each side. The rods are spaced apart and the members are sized so that sliding movement of one bead will contact a bead located in the next adjacent rod and cause it to also slide. A member representing an ordinal number is selected and is moved along the rod to contact members adjacent to the selected member in the direction of movement to separate a sub-array of members from said equilateral triangle array. The selection of additional ordinal members contact with adjacent members is repeated so that depending upon the mathematical operation being demonstrated.

  • Patent number: 5968918
Abstract: The present invention relates to the prevention of coronary artery spasm in mammals by the administration of an effective amount of an antiestrogen compound to block estrogen receptors for the reduction or prevention of the formation of an estrogen--estrogen receptor complex so that estrogen response elements in the DNA of the smooth muscle of the coronary arteries is not activated by the complex. The method of the invention is used to reduce the risk of spasm induced cardiac problems such as sudden infant death syndrome. The antiestrogen is selected from the group consisting of progestins and nonsteroidal antiestrogen compounds.

  • Patent number: 5883695
Abstract: Method and apparatus for producing stereoscopic images for motion picture or TV using a single sensor or camera and a single lens. In carrying out the method of the invention, the camera lens is caused to rotate about an axis defined by the optical path of the incoming image rays. The apex of the cone is defined by the object being rendered. The base of the cone is defined by the image sensor portion of the camera and its circular path remains unchanged during an image rendering session. The lens of the camera, on the other hand, travels in a smaller circular path and the circumference of the path of travel of the lens is increased or decreased depending on the distance from the image to the lens and can change during the image rendering session. Apparatus comprises a frame which is driven by an electro mechanical drive mechanism for moving a camera support body through a conical path.

  • Patent number: 5787015
Abstract: A modular analyzer system consists of a control device and one or more functional analyzer modules linked to the control device. The analyzer modules include FID, NDIR, chemiluminescence and paramagnetic analyzers. Each analyzer module includes a microprocessor having all menus necessary for the operation of the analyzer. Menus are coded and transmitted in real time by providing the control device with a dictionary of menu phrases which are coded and the codes maintained in a code index at each analyzer module and at the control device. Since menus are maintained at the analyzer module and not transmitted until called for, there is no need to store specific menus at the control device. New modules can be easily added to the system and any phrases not already included in the phrase dictionary are downloaded to a supplemental dictionary when the new module is added. Data is displayed in the form called for by the analyzer menu and data from several analyzer modules can be displayed simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 5775965
Abstract: A device for quickly releasing a surfboard tether from a body strap. The tether and surfboard are normally connected by a plug and socket swivel connection. The device comprises a removable locking pin which, in its locked position, extends through openings in the socket and through a passage in the plug to secure the plug and socket connection. A resilient retainer acts against the socket body and the locking pin to normally retain the locking pin in its locked position. The locking pin is adapted to be pulled out of the passage and socket body against the urging of the resilient member to release the plug and socket, thereby disconnecting the leash from the body strap. In one embodiment of the invention the resilient member comprises an elastomeric band which is looped around the locking pin and the socket body and acts against a surface of the locking pin provided for that purpose to urge the locking pin into the locked position to hold the plug and socket in connection.

  • Patent number: 5640222
Abstract: The lens body of a camera for sensing moving images is adapted for producing a stereoscopic image by first and second spaced apart optical deflectors. The deflectors include reflective surfaces which lie in parallel planes with respect to one another and which are disposed at an angle to the optical path of incoming image rays. The second deflector lies generally in the optical path of the incoming image rays and deflects incoming image rays from the scene to the first deflector which lies in the path of the deflected rays. The first deflector in turn deflects the image rays to the image sensing means in the camera body. Both deflectors are caused to rotate slowly about an axis defined by the optical path of the incoming image rays while maintaining their relative positions with respect to one another. The orientation of the lens with respect to the image sensing means of the camera remains fixed during rotation of the deflectors.
