Abstract: A safety cap assembly for a craft knife having a blade and a handle that comprises a cap housing having a front end portion and a rear end portion with an opening at the end of the front end portion for receiving the knife blade, an attaching member located on the front end portion of the housing for attaching it to the knife handle, a sleeve mounted on the housing adapted for sliding back and forth between the front end and the rear end portions of the housing for closing the attaching member in attaching position when the sleeve is at the front end portion of the housing and for opening the attaching member when the sleeve is at the rear end portion, stop members at the ends of the housing for preventing the sleeve from slipping off the housing, and a safety-locking member on the housing for releaseably locking the sleeve in position on the front end portion when the sleeve is closing the attaching member whereby to prevent the cap assembly from opening and being pulled off the knife accidentally.

Abstract: A multiple pane glass unit for butt-glazing comprising an exterior glass sheet spaced apart from an interior glass sheet by horizontal head and sill spacers and a pair of vertical structural spacers, with the vertical spacers being constructed and arranged to provide structural support for the glass sheets against wind loads and the like and a first gasket strip mounted on a first vertical structural spacer, with a second, mating gasket strip mounted on a second vertical structural spacer, with the first and second gasket strips being arranged to contact one another along the vertical joints of side-abutting glass units to form a butt joint and being constructed and arranged to be substantially flush with the exterior glass sheets and to provide a weatherseal joint along the abutting vertical edges thereof, said gaskets being applied to the glass unit prior to installation and eliminating the need for an exterior applied wet weatherseal.

Abstract: A tunnel kiln particularly adapted for firing ceramic workpieces has a firing channel including a heating zone, a firing zone, and a cooling zone, and has kiln cars and kiln sole sections which bear the workpieces to be treated and are movable through said firing channel. The kiln sole sections are separated from the kiln cars, and the kiln cars are constructed and arranged to be movable independently of the kiln sole sections.

Abstract: An end fitting for rubber steam hoses with metal liners of interlocking construction comprises a stem that has zig-zag serrations formed on an intermediate portion of its outer surface for contacting and retaining the inside of a rubber hose, and has rib-type right hand spirals formed on an inner end portion of its outer surface so that a metal liner of interlocking construction is adapted to be screwed onto the spirals for retention of the metal liner from being pulled off the ste. on the stem and preventing the metal liner from being pulled off the stem. A clamp is provided that clamps the rubber hose against the zig-zag serrations to seal the end fitting against the escape of steam, and clamps the rubber hose against the metal liner and the metal liner against the spirals and the inner end portion of the stem outer surface to provide added retention of the metal liner from being pulled off the stem.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for expanding a length of flexible tubing so it can be placed over a cylindrically shaped member which has an outside diameter larger than the inside diameter of the tubing. This is accomplished by first expanding the flexible tubing mechanically with a flexible cage and mandrel to the desired inside diameter and then freezing it at this expanded size by spraying it with a cooling media such as liquid nitrogen. The frozen expanded tube can then be easily placed over the cylindrically shaped member so that when the expanded tubing warms and returns to its original configuration, it will generate a tight pressure bond to the inserted member.

Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for measuring the length of an open pipe includes a sound transducer placed in spaced open air communication with the interior of the pipe at a selected end. A logic circuit is employed with the transducer for producing a square wave sound pulse that is directed at the pipe's selected end. An oscillator provides an ambient temperature modified count in accordance with the time required for the pulse to travel the length of the pipe and return. For compensating for error tending to be introduced because of the spacing of the impedance reflective surface at the far end of the pipe, a standoff device establishes such a distance between the transducer and the selected end of the pipe as to effect an adjustment in the duration of the oscillator count that corrects for the error.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for the induction heating of a metallic material comprising the steps of forming the material into a desired shape, passing the formed material in heat exchange relationship with an induction heating means, passing the heated material directly from the induction heating means into the reaction chamber of a cooling shroud at a temperature above its lowest reaction temperature, delivering hydrogen gas and an inert gas into the reaction chamber of the cooling shroud to expose the material entering the reaction chamber to this gas mixture so as to reduce the surface oxidation on the material, cooling the material in the reaction chamber while exposing the surface thereof to the inert gas, and passing the material from the cooling shroud at a reduced temperature which is less than the reaction temperature of the material whereby the formation of heavy surface oxides is eliminated and the material has a workable hardness.

The flow lines of the grain structure of the forging in each quadrant formed by the axes of the legs are substantially parallel the contours of the exteriors of the legs and curved arcuate portion in the quadrant. The method for forming a metal cruciform journal forging comprises placing a metal forging billet in a die assembly having a main cavity for the reception of the metal cylinder and a pair of opposed cavities branching off from the main cavity at 90.degree. to the main cavity.

Abstract: A shoe journal bearing having a series of shoes with a leading edge distribution groove, and bleed grooves so as to prevent oil starvation of any area of the shoe, and an oil feed tube connected between the outer end of the oil distribution groove and an oil supply hole in a shoe retaining ring. The oil feed tube is provided with O-ring seals to seal the oil supply system against leakage and directs the oil against the working faces of the shoes where it is needed and prevents the oil from leaking into areas where it is not needed or useful.

A movable storage cabinet has a top which has a height and depth substantially equal to the height and depth of the second table top respectively for alternatively serving as an extension of the second table top or nesting under the first table top adjacent the end thereof remote from the second table. Advantageously the movable storage cabinet is mounted on supports such as casters which facilitate the movement of the cabinet on a floor.

Abstract: A package comprising a cylindrical plastic tube closed at each end by an ultrasonic band seal. The seal at one end has a sealed region which is narrower than any portion of the other seal whereby squeezing of the package produces an immediate one-shot dispensing of liquid contained therein by causing rupture of the narrow region of the seal. Various package forms include perpendicularly arranged bands to provide a tetrahedral shape, a tab extending beyond one seal to provide identification of the contents of the package, notched seals providing a tear open package, and a multiple package construction in which one fluid containing tube is contained within another.

There is a removable metal blade having an outer edge and an inner cutting edge for each arm. A flange on each arm abuts the outer edge of the respective blade.
