  • Patent number: 4578986
Abstract: A system for the analysis of gas samples from a dry and dusty environment, such as the interior of a lime kiln, includes a probe which extends relatively far into the kiln, to avoid the adverse effect on the measurements of extraneous, i.e., "tramp", air which may leak into the kiln. A sample of the gas is drawn through an isolation tube which extends from the probe chamber in a direction for sample flow opposite to the flow of gases in the kiln. The sample is passed through a filter, within the probe chamber; pumped to a conditioning system, in which the sample gas is cleaned and cooled; and then pumped to gas analysis cells for the analysis of the individual gases. The probe chamber is mounted at the end of a support pipe which carries a first tube, connected to the filter. This pipe serves as a path to introduce purge air for the filter and also calibration gases for test purposes. The actual gas sample is withdrawn through an innermost pipe which terminates just upstream of the inlet of the filter.

  • Patent number: 4574851
Abstract: An apparatus for use in filling a valve bag eliminates sifting of product during the filling process. A filling nozzle is inserted into the valve of a bag to be filled. A flow of particulate material is provided through the filling nozzle and into the bag. When the bag is full, the flow of particulate material is terminated. A blast of high pressure air is then introduced into the nozzle in order to clear the nozzle of any residual particulate material therein. A low pressure blast of air is introduced between the nozzle and the filling valve to suspend any particles present in the filling valve after the nozzle has been cleared by the high pressure blast. A vacuum is introduced into the nozzle to suck any suspended particles out of the filling valve after the low pressure blast has been introduced. A boot can be inflated around the nozzle to seal the nozzle within the bag valve before filling the bag.

  • Patent number: 4557779
Abstract: A plastic caul for embossing wood panels with grain patterns comprises a laminate of sheets of epoxy prepreg made of such heat insensitive non-cellulosic webs such as fiberglass or woven graphite impregnated with partially cured epoxy resin. The caul may also include a metal core or backing sheet. The embossing face of the caul contains a relief design, usually transferred from a natural wood grain pattern. To form the caul, a mold is first prepared. The mold may comprise a textured wood panel, the grain surface of which has been sealed with a material such as urethane varnish or a water reducible imine catalyzed acrylic varnish with a urethane additive. The sealed textured face is then coated with a release agent. This treatment prevents the panel and future caul from sticking together. Sheets of the epoxy prepreg are then layered between the treated surface of the panel and a backing sheet and compressed under heat and pressure until substantially cured.

  • Patent number: 4526527
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for lubricating and beading the edge or rim of a cup having a seamed annular sidewall and a polygonal base. A 360.degree. spray means sprays the inside top margin of the cup wall with water to lubricate and a spinning head having a plurality of radially moveable forming members for contact with the rim subsequently produces the bead. The lubricator has a deflector which moves by means of an air cylinder axially into contact with the top annular wall end to close the end and to direct and combine a water mist created by a 360.degree. spray set up which atomizes the water to a mist by means pressurized air. For the bead forming operation, a base plate together with relatively moveable socket forming wall members provides a seat for the cup on a cam operated elevator device which moves the cup upwardly. The socket is complementary to the polygonal base to prevent rotation of the seated and supported cup relative to the socket.

  • Patent number: 4511043
Abstract: An easy opening carton and blank for forming same made from a paperboard material comprising a laminate of a smooth cover sheet and an inner lining, or a unitary construction are provided. The generally rectangular carton has opposed front and back walls, opposed side walls and opposed top and bottom walls. A parallel array of perforation lines are disposed on one side wall adjacent the top wall in a configuration such as a V or a semi-circle to form an easy opening area. The parallel array of perforations includes a plurality of parallel lines of perforations having each perforation in alternating positions between adjacent lines of perforations. The parallel array of perforations defines a wide area of penetration which sufficiently weakens the inner paperboard lining to facilitate opening the carton. Inward pressure on the easy opening area will separate the area from the side walls and permit the top wall to be torn back to form a pour spout.

  • Patent number: 4502600
Abstract: A reclosable paperboard carton and blank therefor, which carton has overlapping and glued end panels closing one end thereof. Once the end panels are opened, they can be reclosed by inserting a straight distal edge of one of the panels under an arcuate tab defined in the interior of the other panel. Using a plain, straight distal edge on the insertable panel reduces paperboard waste and manufacturing costs since exterior locking tabs are eliminated and single knife cutting can be used. In one embodiment, the tab is defined by an arcuate cut line and two spaced perforated lines extending from the arcuate line to the distal edge of the panel. In a second embodiment, the tab is defined by a cut-out recess extending from the distal edge of the panel and having an arcuate bottom edge.
