  • Patent number: 4433968
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for beading the edge or rim of a cup having a seamed annular sidewall and a polygonal base. A spinning head having a plurality of radially moveable forming members for contact with the rim to produce a bead is located over and in register with a cup-supporting base plate. The base plate together with relatively moveable socket forming wall members provides a seat for the cup on a cam operated elevator device which moves the cup upwardly. The socket is complementary to the polygonal base to prevent rotation of the seated and supported cup relative to the socket. The socket walls retract into a common horizontal plane with the base plate to permit rotationally driven star wheels to guide and confine cups onto the base plate in register with the forming means and off of the base plate away from the forming means. An air stream is directed into the cup to produce a positive pressure which inhibits dust from entering the cup during the forming operation.

  • Patent number: 4402433
Abstract: A two part paperboard container having adjustable vents is described and is intended for use with a sublimable composition. The container consists of an inner tubular member and an outer tubular sleeve member, both of a truncated, conical configuration. The inner tubular member, which is adapted to receive the sublimable composition, is disposed within the outer sleeve member. The outer surface of the inner member is in frictional engagement with the inner surface of the outer sleeve member which functions to seal the carton. The inner member may be rotated relative to the outer sleeve member to at least partially align apertures provided in the upper cover portions of the tubular members, thereby exposing the composition to the air enabling it to sublime. Continued relative rotation of the tubular members will reset the apertures in the upper cover portions in a nonaligned position, thereby resealing the container.

  • Patent number: 4389802
Abstract: A lid insert is provided for releasable connection to a plastic lid having a subtantially flat top surface and an upwardly and inwardly projecting peripheral bead disposed above and spaced from the top surface of the lid. The lid insert is made of paperboard material having a planar configuration generally corresponding to the configuration of the flat top surface of the lid. The periphery of the planar lid insert includes a plurality of alternating indents and nodes. The area defined by the outermost points of the insert is greater than the area defined by the upwardly and inwardly projecting bead. This peripheral configuration of alternating nodes and indents facilitates the initial placement of the insert on the lid and enables the insert to compensate for the different expansion characteristics of the lid and the lid insert.
