  • Patent number: 4601101
Abstract: A razor system comprises a handle 10 to which a blade unit 15 can be connected by a releasable coupling, the razor handle being hollow and containing a dispenser in which a plurality of blade units are stored for attachment in turn to the handle when the blade unit, previously fitted in an operative position on the end of the handle, has been discarded. The releasable coupling 13 is a pair of resilient claws 13a engageable by snap action in a pair of recesses in the blade unit for pivotally mounting the blade unit on the handle, the blade units being slidable longitudinally out of the dispenser.

  • Patent number: 4597451
Abstract: A fire detection system comprises a plurality of individual fire detection-suppression units which all have their own individual standby electrical power supply. Each has a radiation detector for fire detection and its own source of fire suppressant. In the event of any of the units detecting a large fire, it automatically releases suppressant from its own source. In addition, all the units are connected to a master control station via a data bus. Any individual unit sensing a large fire signals this fact to the master control station which then enables the immediately adjacent individual units so as to permit those units, only, to release their fire suppressant if and only if they detect at least a "small" fire (and also provided that the master control station determines that not less than a predetermined number of the units still have functional fire suppressant sources).

  • Patent number: 4573311
Abstract: A lawn rake having an improved means of tine containment. The tines are positioned and locked within a spreader bar heretofore used primarily for maintaining a spacial relationship between adjacent tines. Additionally, the tines are anchored within the rake socket portion by means of a spring clip which also coacts with a stiffener spring engaging the spreader bar to enhance fixed tine location within the rake head assembly.

  • Patent number: 4557950
Abstract: A process for chemical vapor deposition of borophosphosilicate glass on a silicon wafer at reduced pressure is disclosed herein. The process includes a step of placing a silicon wafer within a reactor tube. The reactor tube is evacuated to a pressure of less than 500 millitorr and is heated to a temperature of not less than 350.degree. C. and not greater than 500.degree. C. A mixture of silane, phosphine and boron trichloride gases is flowed into the reactor tube so that the mixture contacts the silicon wafer. At the same time, a quantity of oxygen is flowed into the reactor tube so that the oxygen also contacts the silicon wafer and intermixes and reacts with the silane, phosphine and boron trichloride gases to form layers of borophosphosilicate glass on the silicon wafer.

  • Patent number: 4501067
Abstract: A razor blade assembly, in the form of a razor or shaving unit, comprises a top cap 114, a razor blade 113 fixed relative to the top cap, and a guardbar 115 which is pivotally movable relative to the blade from a shaving position, in which the blade is exposed for shaving, to a protecting position in which the guardbar prevents contact between the cutting edge of blade 113 and a user of the razor. The guardbar can be formed integrally with a platform 112 on which a second blade 123 is secured, or the second blade 123 could be secured to the top cap. In either case the guardbar and platform will pivot between the shaving position and the protecting position, and in latter position both blades will be protected.

  • Patent number: 4497373
Abstract: The invention discriminates between the explosion of an ammunition round itself and the fire or explosion (e.g. a hydrocarbon fire) which may then take place in the object (e.g. a vehicle) struck by the round and initiates suppression of the latter fire or explosion only. The vehicle carries a radiation detector which measures the ratio of the intensities of the radiation at 3.4 and 4.4 microns. When an exploding ammunition round passes through the fuel tank entraining initially unburning hydrocarbon fuel with it, the detector measures a relatively low ratio because the unburning hydrocarbon fuel vapor between the burning round and the detector has a very intense absorption band at 3.4 microns. Fire suppression is thus initiated, so as to suppress the hydrocarbon fire which would very shortly follow.

  • Patent number: 4496047
Abstract: The pack consists of a single card having an aperture therein shaped and dimensioned to receive and support the heads of a stack of disposable razors. The handle of each razor contains a slot and the assembled handles are secured to the card by a tongue which extends through the slots in the razor handles and is secured at its opposite ends to the card. In a modification, the slots are formed in the ends of the razor handles and a part of the card extends into each of the slots.

  • Patent number: 4494339
Abstract: This invention relates to knife sharpeners, and particularly to knife sharpeners of a kind which are incorporated in a holder for the knife in which the knife is placed when not in use.In such holders the blade sharpener is located so that the action of positioning the knife in the holder, and/or the action of withdrawing the knife from the holder, moves the cutting edge relative to the sharpening device to effect a sharpening action. The knife sharpener of the present invention is provided with means which are incorporated in the holder for varying the effectiveness of the sharpening device even to the extent of rendering it inoperative.

  • Patent number: 4489627
Abstract: A double edged strip of blade metal is parted along a center line and cropped to form two strips each containing a series of spaced apart blades connected by webs to an elongate backing strip of blade metal. Each strip is fed into a moulding machine in which a razor, or a shaving unit, or a blade-containing component of a shaving unit is moulded directly on to each individual blade. Each web is then parted to release the moulded razor, shaving unit, or shaving unit component, from the backing strip.

  • Patent number: 4487596
Abstract: A flip-top box is folded from a one-piece skillet by bringing a contents retainer panel (R) into overlapping relationship with a front panel (C.sub.1); thereafter pressing the skillet into a rectangular opening of a die (70), to cause certain panels of the skillet to stand perpendicular to rear panels of the container and lid, folding portions of the skillet projecting from the die into a plane parallel spaced from the rear panel and causing other portions to enter the die; and pressing the partially folded skillet into a rectangular opening of a second die opposite the first die to fold down the outside panels of the box to complete the box formation.

  • Patent number: 4483068
Abstract: The invention provides the combination of a razor blade 10 and holder 12 for the razor blade, wherein the cutting edges of the blade are constituted by the periphery of a number of holes 10b in the blade, and the holder is provided with means 13 by which the blade can be picked up from a razor blade dispenser 16, the holder maintaining the picked-up blade in an arched condition for shaving. The dispenser may have at least one compartment in which an unused blade 10 can be retained in an arched condition whereby parallel sides of the blade can be engaged by the holder 12 which increases the flexure of the blade to release it from the compartment.
