Abstract: A process for recovering lead oxides from the spent paste of exhausted lead acid batteries. The process provides heating the spent paste with an alkali hydroxide solution at elevated temperatures prior to calcinations. Calcination is at various temperatures so that either lead mono-oxide, lead dioxide or red lead is obtained as the principal product. There is also provided the use of the lead oxide to prepare the paste for positive and negative electrodes or other lead compounds.

Abstract: A centrifugal pump is provided for use with fluids, gases, and solids in connection with a drive shaft and a motor. The pump has a housing and at least a 30 degree sloped impeller mounted on the shaft within the housing. The housing has opposing inlet means on each side of the impeller and a discharge outlet. The impeller can be constructed as split through its center with an associated split housing or being an integral part.

Abstract: A protective garment having gloves at the bottom of sleeve portions which can be quickly attached and detached. The gloves contain an attachment ring which sealingly mates with a respective attachment ring on the sleeve portions by a bayonet attachment. There is also provided a kit for retrofitting existing gloves and protective garments. An outer glove is attachable over an inner glove which can be changed by alternate pair of gloves.

Abstract: A filtration apparatus for use in a system containing a gas or vapor to be cleaned. The apparatus has at least one housing for a filter that removes contaminants from a gas or vapor. The housing contains an inlet portion and an outlet portion in association with valves for closing or regulating the flow of gas or vapors to be cleaned by the filter. A differential pressure gauge is optionally provided to monitor the pressure in the housing and to indicate when the filter should be replaced. One or more housings can be used for the apparatus.

Abstract: An aqueous slurry composition for lapping, saw wire cutting, and finishing operations which contains about 0.1 to 70% by weight of abrasive particles, 0.1 to 20% by weight of suspending particles that have a density of less than or similar to the aqueous or semi-aqueous carrier medium, and the method for creating the suspension.

Abstract: Alpha 1-antitrypsin is prepared by growing in a fermentor methylotropic yeast transformants containing in their genome at least one copy of DNA encoding alpha 1-antitrypsin, in operational linkage with DNA encoding a signal sequence, which is effective for directing secretion of proteins from the host cells, DNA constructs and recombinant yeast strains used for the expression and secretion of alpha 1-antritrypsin are also provided. The fermentation medium requires a pH of 6.5 to 7.5. The fermentation is at a pH between 5 and 6.8.

Abstract: There is provided a method of treating irritations and inflammation of the eye or ear by the topical administration of an aqueous composition containing an inorganic monobasic iodide salt and an oxidizing agent which is buffered to a pH of 4.0 to 8.0. The eye treating compositions have an osmolarity between 140 and 180 mOsm/l and are hypotonic.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a processed thin film substrate (10) and a method therefore, in order to produce a flexible printed circuit card, having a plurality of microvias going or passing through the thin film substrate and electrically connected along faced-away surfaces, in order to form an electric circuit. A first a number of real nano-tracks are filled with a first material (M1), having good electric properties, for the formation of a first number of, here denominated, first vias (V10, V30, V 50), that a second number of real nano-tracks are filled with a second material (M2), having good electric properties, for the formation of a second number of, here denominated, second vias (V20, V40, V60). The first material (M1) and the second material (M2) of said first and second vias (V10–V60) are chosen having mutually different thermoelectric properties.

Abstract: A process for removing dye on the surface of synthetic textiles and cotton utilizing ozone. The process also prevents redeposit of dye which is residual in a dyeing process. The time and temperature of the process is dependent upon the type of dye and the temperature the process is run. The process can be used in vat dyeing, jet dyeing, package dyeing and the like.

Abstract: There is provided a method for preventing deknitting of knitted tubular articles or garments such as gloves, socks, and the like. Accordingly, the edge of the tubular article or garment is provided with a plurality of horizontally knit rows of thread or yarn which are stretchable or elastic, and a vertical stretchable or elastic yarn or thread is knitted over and around 2 to 12 rows of the horizontal knit rows with gradually increasing tension so as to cause the edge to curl or roll over as a result of the vertical knit.

Abstract: A method for recovering and recycling expensive and hazardous components from capacitors containing an electrolyte salt dissolved in an aprotic organic solvent. The method includes disintegrating a plurality of capacitor casings and their contents into fragments and forming an aqueous slurry of water insoluble fragments, filtering fractionally distilling the filtrate to remove the solvent as a distillate and recovering the electrolyte salt.
