  • Patent number: 4029210
Abstract: This invention conveys full and empty bobbins between different locations in a manufacturing facility for making communication cables. Most of the manual handling of the bobbins is eliminated by having a closed loop conveyor on to which bobbins are loaded and from which bobbins are ejected at selected locations; and the invention provides lift members for automatically spacing the bobbins on the conveyor at a location between a loading station and the next ejector. The spacing is accomplished while the conveyor is in continuous motion.

  • Patent number: 4018142
Abstract: This specification describes an improved method for making a container that has a square bag construction at its lower end and an upper end constructed as a folding box. The method produces such a container with a flexible handle that is permanently attached to the container in contrast with the prior art where economical construction requires that the user attach a separate handle to the container. With this invention, changes in the reinforcing of the upper panels of the container and a novel sequence in the manufacturing steps make the provision of a permanently attached handle both economical and practical. The product has novel features of construction that make it possible to manufacture the product on automatic machines which make conventional shopping bags and with limited alterations in the standard shopping bag machines.

  • Patent number: 4011892
Abstract: The valve element of this invention is generally cylindrical and has poppet valves at both ends for contact with seats at opposite ends of a chamber in which the valve element moves. Cylindrical side walls at each end of the chamber prevent interflow between ports during movement of the valve element from one end of its stroke to the other. For sub-sea use on offshore drilling well heads, a spring that moves the valve element in one direction is in a chamber sealed from an adjacent chamber to which the ambient sea water has access. Apparatus for pilot operation of the valve element has spaced, aligned bearing guides for guiding the valve element on opposite sides of an intervening chamber that holds the sea water.

  • Patent number: 4000992
Abstract: Water sprays and foam, of the type used for fire fighting, have been used for dust suppression; but were not effective in removing the smaller particles from dust laden air. This invention uses a foam of high film strength that makes possible the bending of the foamed film to shorter radiuses of curvature and resultng smaller bubbles. Such a foam can be used to remove all of the detectable particulate matter from dust laden air or other gases.

  • Patent number: 3982062
Abstract: Encription apparatus for restricting distribution of private (e.g., premium) video programs propagated by a CATV cable network, radiation or the like employs picture carrier isolating, phase shifting and linear combining structure for rendering the transmitted video information unrecoverable by conventional television receivers. Authorized receiving stations are provided with inversely functioning electronics which reconstitute the prescribed video amplitude modulation format to permit signal reception. Similar audio program modification and correction structure permits encription and selective reception of the sound portion of the distributed programming.

  • Patent number: 3950672
Abstract: A vertical sweep circuit includes a first transistor supplied with a sawtooth voltage. A voltage drop is developed across a resistor by a vertical sweep current for producing a first voltage across a first load. A second transistor is supplied with the first voltage for producing a second voltage across a second load, and a pair of push-pull connected transistors are supplied with the second voltage for producing the sweep current. An additional transistor of the same conductivity type as the second transistor is included in the circuit. Responsive to the first voltage, the additional transistor produces voltage pulses at a point of connection thereto of an additional load, which is greater than the second load to make the second and additional transistors operate as a linear amplifier transistor and a switching transistor, respectively. Vertical blanking pulses are produced from the voltage pulses.

  • Patent number: 3946430
Abstract: A multiplexed holographic recording system employs plural transparent positive pictures, each representing a different pictorial or video information content, which embody differing, unique pre-assigned spatial frequencies. A hologram is formed of the positive pictures, the reconstructed image from the hologram being identical in smoothed intensity distribution to a composite picture formed by superposition of the positive pictures.Spatial frequency filters are employed to remove, from the object beams transmitted through the positive pictures driving hologram formation, spatial frequency components assigned to other pictures. Accordingly, crosstalk between the multiplexed pictorial information is obviated.

  • Patent number: 3940755
Abstract: Apparatus for driving a plasma discharge display employs a sustaining voltage pulse train source for quiescently energizing the display electrodes. To modify the display presentation, e.g., to initiate discharges at a new cell or terminate that previously obtaining, one of the sustaining voltage pulses is suppressed and an appropriate display changing signal introduced in its place.Because the change signals are developed during the time interval otherwise allotted to a sustaining pulse, there is no requirement for an interval between sustaining pulses for display modifying signaling. Accordingly, the sustaining pulse rate can be rapid, resulting in a bright display with good operating margins.

  • Patent number: 3940699
Abstract: Portable, plugable electrical test equipment signals the presence or absence of radio frequency energy within a predetermined frequency spectrum, as on a CATV or MATV video distribution system. The equipment comprises a cascaded bandpass filter, radio frequency amplifier, coupling-detector network, and operational amplifier to selectively energize a light emitting diode when a sufficient level of energy in the requisite frequency range is sensed. In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, the coupling-detector network includes circuitry for quiescently biasing the inverting and noninverting inputs of the operational amplifier to a state such that the LED is not activated. The circuitry further includes as an integral part thereof detector structure for reversing the relative potential amplitudes impressed on the amplifier inputs when a sufficient quantum of the subject radio frequency energy is coupled to the composite test equipment, such that an appropriate output indication is generated.

  • Patent number: 3934079
Abstract: A bilateral communications system, as for CATV application, distributes commercially available and premium video programming on a subscriber demand--directly accountable basis. At least the premium video programming is impressed on the cable in a frequency band and/or format not recoverable by a standard television receiver, absent receipt at a particular subscriber location of a reception-authorizing message from the system head end.A central processor at the system head end sequentially polls cable subscribers under stored program control, permitting bilateral digital communications between the subscriber and the head end.
