Patent number: 5291918Abstract: An emergency shut-down system to close a gate valve in a pipeline and therefore terminate flow. The closing action is initiated when a pilot valve senses pressure in the pipeline outside predetermined limits. This reduces the signal pressure in the system which, in turn, causes a fluid dump from the gate valve actuator which closes the gate valve and terminates fluid flow in the pipeline. The system is reactivated by manually pumping the system which re-opens the gate valve and allows fluid flow in the pipeline to again continue.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1991Date of Patent: March 8, 1994Assignee: Barber Industries Ltd.Inventor: Clarence W. Johnson

Patent number: 5223024Abstract: A process for the extraction of copper from a copper ore or concentrate comprises first subjecting the ore or concentrate to agitation leaching at an elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of oxygen and water to obtain a resulting acidic leach liquor which contains dissolved copper. The acidity of the resulting acidic leach liquor is then reduced by affecting percolation leaching of a bed of low grade copper ore or waste rock with the resulting acidic leach liquor, whereby the pH of the leach liquor is raised, for example to a value of about 1.5 to 2. In a preferred embodiment the bed of low grade ore or waste rock is in the form of a heap and the percolation leaching comprises heap leaching.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1992Date of Patent: June 29, 1993Assignee: Cominco Engineering Services Ltd.Inventor: David L. Patent number: 5213133Abstract: A pressure responsive pilot control valve has a spool which is movable by a metal diaphragm sensing the pressure in a flowline. The spool includes two poppet seal rings mounted thereon, the poppet seal rings having concentric axes and which are used for opening and closing fluid ports. The fluid ports are opened and closed for the purpose of sending a signal to a latching relay valve to bleed off a shut in valve actuator which will terminate flow in the flowline. The poppet seal rings of the pilot move responsive to a high or a low pressure condition. A low pressure spring is provided for measuring a low pressure condition and a high pressure spring is provided for measuring a high pressure condition.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1991Date of Patent: May 25, 1993Assignee: Barber Industries Ltd.Inventor: James R.
