  • Patent number: 4271767
Abstract: Sheet material is taken from a supply, moved along its length to a cutting station, an edge thereof is hemmed as it moves toward the cutting station, the sheet material is cut into segments, and the cut segments are moved parallel to their cut edges, the cut edges are hemmed, and the segments are folded. At the cutting station the leading portion of the sheet material is gripped and pulled from the entrance to the cutting station to the other side thereof, a slack bar is moved downwardly into the segment of sheet material in the cutting station to form slack in the segment, the sheet material is clamped adjacent the entrance to the cutting station and the segment in the cutting station is clamped against parallel conveyor tapes. A cutting disc is drawn across the sheet material at the entrance to the cutting station, and the parallel conveyor tapes move the sheet parallel to its cut edges to a hemming station where the edges are folded and hemmed.

  • Patent number: 4271982
Abstract: The glue dispenser comprises a collapsible tube having an externally threaded spout. A nozzle assembly comprises an internal nozzle threaded onto the spout and a external nozzle mounted on the internal nozzle. A nozzle valve registers with the opening of the external nozzle and is biased into closing engagement therewith by a deformable portion of the valve being urged against a cam surface. A piercing element is formed on the internal nozzle element, and when the nozzle is completely threaded down on the threads of the spout of the collapsible tube, the piercing element penetrates the sealing diaphragm of the spout so that the material in the collapsible tube can be squeezed through the spout and through the nozzle, with the nozzle valve controlling the flow of the material from the dispenser.

  • Patent number: 4268097
Abstract: A guard device protects vertical molding strips on vertical sidewalls of cabinets in grocery supermarkets and the like. Vertical molding strips on cabinet sidewalls are damaged by moving carts loaded with groceries, etc., engaging the molding strips and pulling the molding strips away from the cabinets. The guard device (10) includes an arcuate rail (18) which is supported so that it protrudes from the cabinet sidewall (13) to form a guide surface about the vertical molding strips (14) which directs grocery carts (15) or like wheeled objects away from contact with the molding.

  • Patent number: 4268167
Abstract: System for measuring the distance between a central location and any number of remote locations. Two parallel beams of radiation emanate outwardly from the central location, and the beams are rotated at a known angular velocity. The time required for each of the two beams of radiation to sweep past a given point at a remote location is a function of the distance which separates the remote location from the central location, and that time can be determined at the remote location to indicate the separation distance. The beams of radiation may be parallel beams, or alternatively the beams may diverge at a known fixed angle that does not originate at the point of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4264099
Abstract: A wind deflector assembly is mounted on a towing vehicle for deflecting the relative wind upwardly about a larger towed vehicle and comprises a deflector plate positioned at an angle inclined upwardly and rearwardly with respect to the normal forward direction of movement of the towing vehicle, and includes a lower leading edge portion extending approximately into the normal forward direction of movement of the towing vehicle and an upper trailing edge portion extending approximately opposite to the normal forward direction of movement of the towing vehicle. Triangular braces are connected to the deflector plate at positions displaced from the ends of the deflector plate, and a tie rod is connected at its end to the triangular braces to prevent the triangular braces from spreading apart. Support feet and straps are connected to the braces for mounting the assembly on the upper surface of the towing vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4262626
Abstract: The shaft of a lockdown assembly is supported at its ends in the side sections of the stationary frame of a glue applicator. Lockdown legs are mounted to the shaft at each end of the shaft and extend parallel to each other from the shaft toward engagement with the side sections of the movable frame of the glue applicator. A spring biases the lockdown legs toward their locked positions. The shaft can be pivoted to raise the lockdown legs away from the movable frame, the movable frame tilted so as to lift its rolls away from their operating positions with respect to the rolls of the stationary frame, and a hook of one of the lockdown legs engages a catch on one of the side sections of the movable frame to hold the movable frame in its open position.

  • Patent number: 4257428
Abstract: Electrode apparatus which is used with stimulation devices, such as cardiac pacemakers or the like. Two or more tissue-engaging members are retractably mounted within the electrode apparatus. The tissue-engaging members are extended to engage body tissue and retracted while maintaining engagement with the body tissue, to thereby bring the body tissue into predetermined signal transfer contact with the conductive portion of the electrode body. Retraction or extension of the tissue-engaging member is accomplished with an elongate tool which is extendable through the hollow coil that attaches to the body of the electrode apparatus. A spring within the electrode body facilitates retraction of the tissue-engaging member.
