Patent number: 4065746Abstract: A hollow, projectile-shaped body containing an acoustical transducer is rased into the sea such that the body descends in free fall until it strikes and penetrates the sea floor, coming to a rest therein. Acoustic signals emanating from the acoustic transducer are processed utilizing the doppler effect to generate a direct current analog signal which is the function of the velocity of the body from a time immediately preceding the body striking the sea floor surface until the body comes to rest in the sea floor, thereby obtaining an indication of the physical characteristics of the sea floor.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1976Date of Patent: December 27, 1977Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: John R. Patent number: 4065726Abstract: A direct coupled linear amplifier which employs negative feedback to prov accurate and stable gain to AC as well as DC input signals. It also performs the function of a DC level shifter and can therefore be interfaced with a variety of signal sources. A constant current source added to the summing junction of the negative feedback amplifier enables the adjustment of the DC level of the output and the AC gain of the amplifier, completely independently of one another.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1976Date of Patent: December 27, 1977Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: Stephen J. Patent number: 4051478Abstract: A notched/diagonally fed electric microstrip dipole antenna consisting of a hin electrically conducting, rectangular-shaped element formed on one surface of a dielectric substrate, the ground plane being on the opposite surface. The length of the element determines the resonant frequency. The feed point is in a notch located along the diagonal with respect to the antenna length and width, and the input impedance can be varied to match any source impedance by moving the feed point along the diagonal line of the antenna without affecting the radiation pattern. The antenna bandwidth increases with the width of the element and spacing between the element and ground plane. Singularly fed circular polarization is easily obtained with this antenna.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1976Date of Patent: September 27, 1977Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: Cyril M. Patent number: 4049953Abstract: A complex pulse repetition frequency generator for producing a pulse repeion frequency (PRF) signal having programmable stagger intervals. The device consists of a clock for selecting one of a series of standard clock pulses which are used to increment a counter. A comparator compares the accumlated clock pulses with a stagger data output signal produced by a data memory source. When the outputs are equal, the comparator produces a PRF output pulse. Two data memory bands are provided; a random access memory in which stagger data can be programmed by a series of switches, and a preprogrammed read-only memory. Address counters are used with each memory unit and provide capability for addressing selected memory locations from the data memory sources. A pulse width generator allows the operator to vary the pulse width and utilizes an injection lock oscillator to prevent jitter whenever a standard clock pulse is used which is not an even multiple of a hundred nanoseconds.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1976Date of Patent: September 20, 1977Assignee: The United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: Albert B. Evans, Jr.

Patent number: 4050070Abstract: A programmable microwave modulator for controlling the amplitude of a micave signal versus time. A programmed driver generates a linear analog signal that has a predetermined amplitude pattern and time period. The linear analog signal from the programmable driver passes through a linearized current driver before inputting a PIN attenuator. The linearized current driver takes the antilogarithm of the linear analog signal, thus compensating for the logarithmic nonlinearity of the PIN attenuator. A radio frequency signal from a receiving antenna inputs the PIN attenuator and is attenuated as a function of the amplitude pattern of the linear analog signal. The PIN attenuator outputs the attenuated radio frequency signal.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1976Date of Patent: September 20, 1977Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Lawrence A. Patent number: 4046993Abstract: A system for determining the proper instant of time to launch an object, h as a target or torpedo, from an aircraft to cause the object to impact a water surface at a predetermined nose-down angle, thereby preventing structural damage due to high impact forces. The system utilizes signals produced by instrumentation representative of the aircraft pitch and angular rate of pitch. The desired launch altitude and predetermined impact angle are physically set into the system by means of adjustable voltage sources. These parameters are processed in the system such that the system forms a complete electronic analogy to the physical laws which govern the motion of the free falling object. In operation, the system continuously computes the predicted impact angle based on the instantaneous inputs of the aircraft's altitude, pitch angle and pitch rate. It then compares the predicted impact angle with the predetermined impact angle.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1976Date of Patent: September 6, 1977Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Charles A. Patent number: 4024823Abstract: An automatic blade angle controller system capable of maintaining a blade an earth-working tool level with the ground. A transparent, closed manometer partially filled with an opaque liquid is contained in an opaque enclosure. A light source is located within the perimeter of the manometer. Two solar cells are located on opposite sides of the enclosure in such manner that the light from the light source must pass through the manometer before impinging on the solar cells. The opaque liquid partially blocks the light from impinging on the solar cells. The voltages from the solar cells are subtracted resulting in an error signal. Of course, when the two voltages are of equal value, no error signal is produced, thereby establishing a level reference position for the enclosure. The enclosure is rigidly affixed to the blade, thereby establishing a reference position for the blade. A servo-hydraulic system returns the blade to its reference position upon receipt of the error signal.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1974Date of Patent: May 24, 1977Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Carter J.
