Abstract: An occupant restraint system includes an airbag and an inflator. The front end of a gas supply pipe, which extends from the inflator housed in a rear pillar to the interior of the airbag and guides the gas generated by the inflator to the airbag, is substantially vertically aligned with front portion of a rear wheel wheelhouse of the vehicle. Since the gas supply pipe can be positioned in an area in which the vehicle body rigidity has been increased by the rear pillar and the wheelhouse, it can be effectively prevented from being damaged due to the impact of a side collision of the vehicle. Moreover, since the inflator is housed in the rear pillar, which is wider and more rigid than a front pillar, it is possible to minimize or effectively prevent damage to the inflator.
Abstract: A reinforcing support frame structure, for use in a roof portion of a vehicle body, includes a panel enclosure with an opening for supporting a roof panel therein. The panel enclosure includes an intermediate portion, which may have two parts situated at different levels, with a curved border therebetween. The reinforcing frame also includes a brace operatively attached to the panel enclosure. The brace may include a triangular portion, having a narrow end facing toward the opening of the panel enclosure. The reinforcing frame structure may also include a plurality of interconnected crossmembers, which are operatively connected to the panel enclosure. Where used, the crossmembers give additional strength to the structure. The reinforcing frame structure may be substantially symmetrical with respect to a longitudinal axis thereof.

Abstract: A mount for an upper portion of a vehicle damper suspension includes an elastic member interconnecting a bracket fixed to a vehicle body and a bracket fixed to a damper rod protruding from a damper case and formed into a tubular shape to surround an outer periphery of an upper portion of the bracket, a first liquid chamber defined in part by the elastic member, and a second liquid chamber defined in part by a diaphragm communicate with each other through a communication passage. The elastic member is shear-deformed vertically with the vertical movement of the damper rod. Thus, it is possible to reduce the vertical dimension of a damper mount, while ensuring a large amount of change in the volume of the first liquid chamber, as compared with a conventional damper mount in which the block-shaped elastic member provided at the upper portion of the damper case is deformed under compression or tension, to thereby change the volume of the first liquid chamber.
Abstract: An apparatus for plasma treatment comprises: an outer chamber for plasma generation, which is connected to a gas introduction portion for plasma generation; a coil for plasma generation, which is provided along the periphery of the outer chamber for plasma generation; and a treatment chamber, which is arranged below the outer chamber for plasma generation. In this apparatus for plasma treatment, inside the outer chamber for plasma generation, an inner chamber having a cross-sectional area smaller than that of the outer chamber for plasma generation is provided coaxially with the outer chamber for plasma generation such that the area between the inner periphery of the outer chamber and the outer periphery of the inner chamber is a plasma generation zone.
Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided an electrostatic chuck for electrostatically attracting an insulative substrate, an apparatus for heating/cooling an insulative substrate using the electrostatic chuck, and a method for controlling the temperature of an insulative substrate. The shape and the properties of the dielectric, and the shape of the electrodes, which form the electrostatic chuck, are disclosed. Also the apparatus for heating/cooling an insulative substrate comprising a plate, a gas supply conduit and a temperature controlling system, and the apparatus for processing an insulative substrate in which the apparatus for heating/cooling an insulative substrate is installed are disclosed.

Abstract: A traffic signal display apparatus includes a display surface having a plurality of bicolor bipolar LEDs thereon in an array. When current is fed into the LEDs in a first direction, the bicolor bipolar LEDs display a first color, which may be green. When current is fed in the opposite direction, the bicolor bipolar LEDs display a second color, which may be red. When current is fed into the array alternately in both directions, the bicolor bipolar LEDs display a third color, which may be yellow. The display apparatus may be subdivided into multiple independent zones, allowing arrows to be displayed. The single display apparatus can therefore be used to replace the three to five stacked conventional traffic light display units.
Abstract: A slit nozzle is positioned above a surface of a substrate placed in a rotary coater, and, while the slit nozzle is translated parallel to the surface of the substrate a coating solution is ejected from the slit nozzle toward the glass substrate under conditions such that the effects of surface tension of the solution are minimized or substantially cancelled out, to uniformly coat the coating solution on substantially the entire surface of the substrate with minimum wasting of the solution.
Abstract: A method of processing a substrate resists unwanted generation of plasma within a waiting chamber of a processing apparatus. The waiting chamber and a processing chamber are depressurized, and an untreated substrate is placed into the processing chamber, by raising a mounting table. A lower opening of the processing chamber is air-tightly closed by an edge portion of the mounting table. Thereafter, gas is introduced into the waiting chamber to increase the pressure therein, and in parallel with this, reactive gas is introduced into the processing chamber, but at a much lower pressure than that of the waiting chamber. Under this condition, high frequency power is applied to electrodes of the processing chamber to generate plasma therein. The likelihood of unwanted plasma generation in the waiting chamber is significantly reduced by the higher pressure therein, relative to the processing chamber.
Abstract: In an engine-starting and stopping system in a vehicle, a crank pulley for driving auxiliary parts by an endless belt is mounted at an end of a crankshaft protruding from a cylinder block of an engine, and a starter motor for cranking the crankshaft is accommodated in an internal space in the crank pulley. The starter motor includes a rotor having a permanent magnet fixed to an inner peripheral surface of a peripheral wall of the crank pulley, and a stator having a coil fixed to an outer surface of a chain cover. Thus, the starter motor for automatically carrying out the restarting of the engine after stopping of the engine can be laid out compactly.
Abstract: A cable type steering system includes a drive pulley coupled to a steering wheel for rotation and having a drive pulley main body, a driven pulley coupled to a steering gear box for steering wheels for rotation and having a driven pulley main body, and an operation cable connecting the drive pulley with the driven pulley, so that a steering torque inputted to the steering wheel is transmitted to the steering gear box via the operation cable. At least one of the drive pulley main body and the driven pulley main body may be molded of a synthetic resin in such a manner as to cover a detent portion formed on an outer circumference of a pulley boss made of a metal both from an axial direction and a radial direction, and at least part of the covered detent portion is visible from outside of the covering pulley main body.

The elongate dispensing system includes a reusable, stackable, storage container for having a substantially circular inner channel to contain a coil of elongate material and a dispensing guide having a plurality of interior guide mechanisms through which elongate material is dispensed without tangles or over-spooling. The storage container further includes a fastening system through which the dispensing guide removably engages said container during operation, ergonomic handles, and wire containment recesses which contain the ends of elongate material when the apparatus is not in operation.
Abstract: An odd-cylinder V-type internal combustion engine including 2n+1 cylinders (n is a natural number) arranged in two banks and pistons fitted in the cylinders has a crankshaft provided with n common crankpins (KC) each connected to the two paired pistons respectively belonging to the two banks, and one odd crankpin (KS) connected to the one unpaired piston. The common crankpins (KC) are disposed at the same phase. Bank angle &thgr; between the two banks meets &thgr;=cos−1(½n). The odd crankpin (KS) is disposed (180−&thgr;)° behind the common crank pins (KC) with respect to the rotating direction of the crankshaft when the unpaired piston belongs to the front bank with respect to the rotating direction of the crankshaft.
Abstract: A method for processing a coating film includes the steps of forming a silica group coating film having a low dielectric constant on a substrate, conducting an etching process to the silica group coating film through a photoresist pattern, and processing the silica group coating film with plasma induced from helium gas. With this, it is possible to prevent the silica group coating film from being damaged when a wet stripping process is conducted to remove the photoresist pattern as a subsequent process, and to maintain the low dielectric constant of the coating film.
Abstract: A burner apparatus for an outdoor cooking stove includes a hollow gas distribution ring, and an attached fuel conduit for sending fuel thereto. The gas ring has a hollow plenum formed therein. In a specific embodiment, the gas ring includes a base portion and an annular cap which is attachable to the base portion, and the annular cap has a plurality of primary apertures formed therethrough, as well as a plurality of secondary apertures which are smaller than the primary apertures. The secondary apertures are located at a level below the primary apertures. The fuel conduit has a hollow passage formed therethrough, which is in fluid communication with the plenum of the gas distribution ring. An outdoor cooking stove including the burner apparatus is also described, along with a kit for constructing same.

The light guide 3 is housed in a light guide casing 4 to allow the emission plane 3a to be exposed, and a light-emitting source base plate is provided on an end surface of the light guide 3 in the longitudinal direction to form a line-illuminating device 10. This line-illuminating device 10 shows characteristics in which intensity distribution in a sub-scanning direction is not changed much relative to elevation of a document surface. Accordingly, if an optical axis of a rod lens 5 and a light-receiving surface of a line image sensor 6 are arranged in an area with less change of light intensity relative to elevation of the document surface, it is possible to reduce possible deterioration of a reading image even when the document surface is elevated.
Abstract: A porous member for pneumatic bearings or the like provides a controlled gas flow rate across a porous ceramic body, which can be readily achieved by a facilitated treatment. The porous body has its outer surface portion covered by a surface layer comprised of fine silica particles which are impregnated in the porous body. The surface layer is subjected to a heat treatment to form restricted passages which are in communication with, and smaller in size than pores within the porous body.
Abstract: A choke valve control system includes a choke-operating lever for opening and closing a choke valve of a carburetor, a choke spring for biasing the valve in an opening direction, and a damper for controlling the opening motion of the valve to a lower speed, when the choke valve is opened from its fully closed position by a biasing force of the choke spring. The choke-operating lever, the choke spring and the damper are connected to the choke valve of the carburetor. In this choke valve control system, the damper includes a damper housing, a rotor, and a damper oil which is accommodated in a sealed manner in the damper housing and applies a viscosity resistance to the rotation of the rotor, which resistance increases as the viscosity increases with decreasing temperature.
Abstract: A vehicular occupant restraint system is provided with an airbag and an inflator. A front end of the folded airbag is housed within a front pillar garnish covering a side face on the occupant compartment side of a front pillar, and impact absorbing ribs are formed on the inner face of the front pillar garnish only in a section(s) that receives little deformation when the airbag is deployed. Since the front pillar garnish can be easily flexed when the air bag is deployed, there is neither inhibition to the smooth deployment of the airbag nor splitting and scattering of a part of the front pillar garnish. Moreover, since the impact absorbing ribs are formed on the front pillar garnish in the section(s) that receives little deformation, the impact of a secondary collision to an occupant can be absorbed effectively by the impact absorbing ribs.
Abstract: A head-up display on a vehicle, which calls the attention of the driver or passenger to a dangerous object and makes the driver or passenger reliably recognize a communicated alarm, comprises: an image display device for displaying an image taken by a camera; a detecting device for detecting a target object; a switching device for manually switching between a display state and a warm-up state; and a warning device for outputting a control signal based on the detected result, thereby making the image display device display the image. The brightness for displaying the image according to the control signal is higher than the brightness for displaying the image according to a manual operation of the switching device.
