  • Patent number: 5256570
Abstract: A design for a RBC (rotary biological contactor), wherein there is provided a plurality of support members enveloped in a chamber, configured so as to support microorganisms or cells. Specifically, the support members are corrugated sheet media which include drain holes formed therein. The corrugated sheet media are supported within a rotating infusion unit which is positioned so as to rotate within an outer jacket. The RBC also includes a system to vary the nutrient environment of said microorganisms or cells, including means to vary the temperature and/or atmosphere within the jacket and infusion unit.

  • Patent number: 5242320
Abstract: A combination throttle/shift control system, configured for providing the full control of throttle and shift functions on a single lever, taught in the exemplary embodiment in conjunction with a marine propulsion system. The preferred embodiment of the present invention allows the full control of propulsion systems throttle and control functions in a single lever, as opposed to most traditional designs, which require the utilization of separate control levers and cables. This is accomplished via the utilization of a relay triggered actuator arrangement wherein there is provided a magnetic switch system for monitoring the positioning of the actuator travel rod relative a switched relay system. The present invention simplifies both the use and mechanical complexity of throttle and shift control systems, resulting in an appreciable increase in the ease of use, while reducing overall expense and maintenance requirements.

  • Patent number: 5215534
Abstract: A system for preventing needle stick or re-use of unsterile hypodermic needles or the like. The hypodermic syringe includes a spring biased, locking push button apparatus exterior to the plunger, which communicates with a locking safety sheath situated at the base of the hypodermic needle prior to activation. The safety sheath is in sliding, longitudinal communication about the needle and is activated to its sheathing position by urging a push button on the locking push button structure in the direction of the needle, directing the sheath from about the base of the needle to over the tip of the needle. Upon communication with the tip, the safety sheath deploys a locking hatch, preventing the urging of the sheath back to the base, and rendering the needle un-reusable.

  • Patent number: 5201279
Abstract: A dispenser system for providing food supplements to deer, cattle and the like. The preferred embodiment of the present invention contemplates an animal activated, liquid supplement container dispenser for dispensing a viscous food supplement such as vitamin or mineral enhanced molasses or the like. The dispenser is configured to be compatible with a large variety of containment systems and stands, and to provide effective, controlled dispensing in the wild with little maintenance. The dispenser includes a container with an outlet blocked by a ball valve, which is rotated, for example, by a separate wheel, which in turn is rotated under the action of the animal's tongue. Alternatively, the bottom of the ball valve could be presented for direct rotation by the animal's tongue. As the rotation takes place, the viscous product is dispensed past the ball valve unto the peripheral surfaces of the licking wheel. A first version (FIGS.
