  • Patent number: 4770817
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of encapsulating soluble or colloid solids in .alpha.-alumina by forming a solution or colloid of the solids in a liquid which has a surface tension low enough to wet a non-particulate transition alumina which has a porosity of at least 40%. The solution or colloid is permitted to impregnate the pores of the alumina and the liquid is evaporated. The alumina is then heated to its .alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 transformation temperature to entrap waste in its matrix and seal the pores. After the alumina has cooled, the surface of the alumina can be washed to remove any solids which were not trapped in the pores.

  • Patent number: 4749497
Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating acidic water, such as mine acid water is provided. The apparatus is readily portable and comprises a reaction vessel having an aerator motor operatively associated therewith. Water to be treated is received within said reaction vessel and is treated by having a neutralizing agent and oxidant by way of the aerator motor introduced simultaneously into the system. Because of instantaneous elevation of pH resulting from the simultaneous introduction of oxidant and the neutralizing agent, the reaction time is greatly reduced and the equipment required is small, compact and easily transported.

  • Patent number: 4716904
Abstract: The invention shows a heart output and circulatory impedance measuring med and associated apparatus based on consecutive subtraction and synchronous summation of digitized ventriculographic images which effectively distinguishes between the motion resulting from contraction of the heart, and the motion resulting from actual displacement or physical movement of the heart back and forth within the chest cavity. From these data is computed a decrement in ventricular volume yielding, in time with subsequent images, the amount of blood ejected from the ventricle that represents the flow. By simultaneously recording the ventricular pressure and by synchronously dividing the pressure by the flow, ventricular load impedance is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4704769
Abstract: An apparatus for deboning fish comprising a block and a filleting tool is disclosed. The block contains a curved edge for placement of the fish, rib cage down. A hand secures the fish on the block. The filleting tool has a handle and a blade that contains a flared portion. The tool is inserted at the dorsal backbone near the head. The tool is then progressively urged to the end of the rib cage. This method separates the backbone, rib cage and other bones from the flesh.
