  • Patent number: 7493610
Abstract: A system and method for optimizing program code in dynamic languages includes gathering hot-type information from a program by employing inferencing or profiling to get the hot-type information for operator uses, and inserting guards in the program based on data flow in the program to guard against propagation failures during runtime where preconditions are violated or where the propagation is unlikely to return. The program is versioned into global versions including a hot path version and a cold path version, where the hot path version is expected to be executed if the values of variables in the code are expected types, and other exceptional cases are handled by the cold path version as triggered by the guards. Compiler optimizations are performed to remove redundant representations of values, and heavy overloading of operators to provide an optimized compiling of the code.

  • Patent number: 7492808
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for decoding received signals on communication channels between at least one transmit antenna and plural receive antennas in a space-time coded direct sequence (DS)-CDMA communication system. The decoding method includes steps of: adjusting the step-size which is an update unit for the tap weight vector for despreading received signals; updating the tap weight vector using the step-size; and despreading the received signals using the tap weight vector. According to the decoding method, the optimal performance can be achieved because the tap weight vector and the step-size are adaptively updated according to changes of communication environment. Such superior performance is more remarkable as the number of receive antennas and transmit antennas increases.

  • Patent number: 7488661
Abstract: A device and method for improving adhesion for thin film layers includes applying a diblock copolymer on a surface where adhesion to subsequent layers is needed and curing the diblock copolymer. Pores are formed in the diblock copolymer by treating the diblock copolymer with a solvent. The surface is etched through the pores of the diblock copolymer to form adhesion promoting features. The diblock copolymer is removed, and a layer is deposited on the surface wherein the adhesion promoting features are employed to promote adhesion between the layer and the surface.

  • Patent number: 7487184
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product are provided for improved round robin for time series data. The method includes receiving user inputs specifying a time period and a sample rate for collection of delta samples. Each delta sample represents a difference between two subsequent values of the time series data. The method further includes accumulating the delta samples over the time period in accordance with the sample rate, calculating a field size based on a maximum one of the delta samples, and writing the delta values to the database using the calculated field size. The database is relatable to a plurality of records. Each record corresponds to a respective time period for delta sample collection and has an adjustable field size for delta sample storage based on a maximum delta sample value for the respective time period.

  • Patent number: 7480617
Abstract: A method for speech recognition includes determining active Gaussians related to a first feature stream and a second feature stream by labeling at least one of the first and second streams, and determining active Gaussians co-occurring in the first stream and the second stream based upon joint probability. A number of Gaussians computed is reduced based upon Gaussians already computed for the first stream and a number of Gaussians co-occurring in the second stream. Speech is decoded based on the Gaussians computed for the first and second streams.

  • Patent number: 7477598
Abstract: A system and method that selects among multiple encodings of the same content to adapt to available bandwidth and meet delay constraints by minimizing the switching lag is disclosed. The system and method include one buffer serving multiple data streams and a switching device. The switching device switches between the multiple data streams and discards data from the buffer that does not belong to a new stream to eliminate switching lag after a switching decision has been made.

  • Patent number: 7475198
Abstract: An apparatus for serializing concurrent requests to multiple processors includes a signal merging tree structure and a traversal mechanism. The tree structure has a root node and leaf nodes for connecting a data consumer to the root. The tree structure serializes concurrent requests in the presence of race conditions, and connects each request producer from among the processors to a respective leaf node. The mechanism enables a producer to transmit a signal from a corresponding leaf node to the consumer at the root node by setting all nodes on a path from the leaf node to the root node to a Boolean true. The mechanism enables the consumer to trace signal submissions of the producers such that submission traversals by the producers and trace traversals by the consumer can be concurrently performed to allow data races between signal submissions by producers and between signal submissions by producers and the consumer.
