  • Patent number: 7300228
Abstract: A piling anti-lift system utilizes a heat trace cable secured around a piling and extending above and below the water level of the surrounding water. An annular space is formed between the piling anti-lift system. The heated piling anti-lift system prevents the water in the annular space from freezing and thereby prevents the piling from being subject to uplifting or heaving that results from the rising tide of surrounding frozen waters. In the event of extreme water temperatures and the freezing of the water in the formed annular space, the piling anti-lift system keeps the piling independent of the frozen surrounding water. In this situation, the piling anti-lift system will break free from the frozen water in the annular area and rise with the rising tide waters, thus continuing to keep the piling independent from the rising frozen tide waters.

  • Patent number: 7287694
Abstract: A method and a system for automated verification and status identification (context) of objects using data about the objects captured via computer-enabled sensing elements are provided. The object may include goods tagged with electronic identifiers. The objects are shipped from one location to another, and identified via their electronic identifiers. The objects are scanned at the various locations by a number of sensing devices. The outcome of sensing is then compared with stored information describing the object and pointed at by their electronic identifier. The comparison is used to automatically verify that the scanned object is as identified and evaluate its condition.

  • Patent number: 7282425
Abstract: A method for fabricating a semiconductor substrate includes epitaxially growing an elemental semiconductor layer on a compound semiconductor substrate. An insulating layer is deposited on top of the elemental semiconductor layer, so as to form a first substrate. The first substrate is wafer bonded onto a monocrystalline Si substrate, such that the insulating layer bonds with the monocrystalline Si substrate. A semiconductor device includes a monocrystalline substrate, and a dielectric layer formed on the monocrystalline substrate. A semiconductor compound is formed on the dielectric layer and an elemental semiconductor material formed in proximity of the semiconductor compound and lattice-matched to the semiconductor compound.

  • Patent number: 7284095
Abstract: A method for replacing cache lines in a computer system having a non-uniform set associative cache memory is disclosed. The method incorporates access latency as an additional factor into the existing ranking guidelines for replacement of a line, the higher the rank of the line the sooner that it is likely to be evicted from the cache. Among a group of highest ranking cache lines in a cache set, the cache line chosen to be replaced is one that provides the lowest latency access to a requesting entity, such as a processor. The distance separating the requesting entity from the memory partition where the cache line is stored most affects access latency.

  • Patent number: 7276136
Abstract: Selection criteria for dyes that predicts efficiency and performance for plastics welding. A first stage quantitative calculation screens dyes that possess an absorption band that can be matched to a laser that is suitable for plastic welding. It also identifies absorption troughs in the visible spectrum and establishes relationships between the relative optical densities of the absorption band and trough. A second stage quantitative calculation screens dyes for their contribution to the transparency of the substrate. By combining these two stages, the usefulness of a candidate dye can be quickly, easily and inexpensively determined.

  • Patent number: 7274590
Abstract: A random access memory includes a memory cell having an access device. The access device is switched on or off in accordance with a signal on a wordline to conduct a memory operation through the access device. A logic circuit is coupled to the wordline to delay or gate the wordline signal until an enable signal has arrived at the logic circuit. The access device improves stability and eliminates early read problems.

  • Patent number: 7269096
Abstract: An object producing an acoustic wave is located and identified by passive detection of the acoustic wave. The acoustic wave is defined by different sensors in an array having a plurality of passive acoustic detectors. The sensors produce signals in response to the detection of the acoustic wave. A wavelet derived from an acoustic wave of a known form with which each of the at least three signals correlates, is determined. Time difference of arrival measurements between the at least three signals using correlation intensity with the wavelet is used to performed acoustic reciprocity from each of the different detectors. The result of the acoustic reciprocity is a hemisphere centered around each of the different sensors. The hemispheres produced by the acoustic reciprocity are examiner to determine an intersection point of at least three hemispheres. The size of the hemispheres is increased according to the velocity of the acoustic wave and pre-determined intervals until an intersection point is found.
