Abstract: The fines retention or drainage properties of mechanical pulps in the paper making process are improved by including in the thin stock, not after the last point of high shear, particles of a water-dispersible colloid siliceous material such as a bentonite clay in intimate association with a low molecular weight water soluble high anionic charge density polymer, such as polyacrylic acid having a molecular weight below 50,000 and a charge density of at least 4 m eq/g and further including in the thin stock, after the last point of high shear, a non-ionic high molecular weight polyelectrolyte such as polyacrylamide having a molecular weight of at least 100,000.
Abstract: The commutation of the motor which has no commutator is by electronic commutation, the excitation being carried out by p pairs of permanent magnets (12) carried by the rotor (10). The powering of the winding (6,6') of the stator is controlled by an encoder (19, 20) synchronized with the rotor (10). The electronic commutation circuit includes an odd number of sensors detecting the angular position of the rotor (10). The number of connection terminals of the winding to which the supply voltage is selectively applied is equal to the number of sensors or to a multiple of this number and the number of switchings per complete revolution of the rotor is equal to the number of sensors multiplied by the number of pairs of poles (12). During each switching, the connection between one of the terminals of the voltage source and at least one of the connection terminals is maintained. The mode of commutation is automatically changed according to the requirements of the motor load.
Abstract: A display package for swim goggles and the like comprises a transparent plastic container with a support therein for holding the goggles to be displayed. The support includes a generally trapezoidal foamed plastic insert and the straps of the goggles fit around the sides and back of the support to secure the goggles against the front thereof. The visible parts of the support may contain indicia identifying and/or describing the article displayed. The support has a front panel which is slanted rearwardly and its bottom extends forwardly to the bottom of the container on which the bottom of the goggles can rest. Owing to its construction, the package is substantially pilferproof in view of the time that it would take to remove the goggles from the package and the support.
Abstract: A gas sensor in which a compound of rhenium is added to tin oxide (SnO.sub.2). Rhenium inhibits the sensor from lowering its resistance over time and in particular increases its durability against overheating. Rhenium is preferably used together with vanadium. Rhenium is preferably added by impregnation in order to maintain temperature characteristic of the sensor.
Abstract: A connector device is disclosed for detachably connecting a photographing apparatus to an endoscope eyepiece barrel. A pair of clamping links have their respective one ends pivotally mounted on an attaching ring adapted to be secured to the photographing apparatus, and are movable between an open position where the links are out of a space in the attaching ring for receiving an eyepiece barrel end flange and a closed position where the links extend into the space. The links are biased toward each other by a resilient element. A pair of support links have their respective one ends pivotally connected to each other and the respective other ends pivotally connected to the respective other ends of the clamping links, respectively.
Abstract: An infant wall seat and changing table assembly is foldable between a substantially flat condition against a vertical support and a horizontal position at which it forms a changing table for the child. The assembly is further folded to form a seat for the child with constraints for maintaining the child therein. The assembly may then be returned to either the changing table position or its flat vertical position.

Abstract: The lining comprises an ankle part consisting of a front portion (4) and of a rear tongue (5) articulated at the level of the heel, and also of a portion (2) surrounding the foot. The lining possesses a transverse cut-out (20) on the instep, allowing free forward flexion of the ankle part. The portion extending over the foot possesses in addition a lengthwise slit (9) opening into the transverse cut-out (20) and allowing uniform gripping of the foot, preferably without any overlap of the two edges of this slit.
Abstract: This invention relates to a roadside emergency system. The systems includes a roadside station which has a telephone unit similar to a mobile telephone set for a cellular mobile telephone system. When the unit is activated, it automatically generates radio signals which cause a mobile telephone switching office to dial up an emergency station (such as a highway police station). The office also automatically establishes a channel for voice communication between the roadside station and the emergency station. The roadside station is further provided with a back-up battery and an alarm to prevent tampering.
Abstract: A urine drainage bag having an outlet tube housing a microcidal tube is disclosed. The microcidal tube is manufactured from polymeric materials capable of absorbing and releasing antimicrobial substances in a controllable sustained time release mechanism, activated upon contact with droplets of urine, thereby preventing the retrograde migration of infectious organisms into the drainage bag.
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for staking a proximal end of an operating needle, with one end of a suture being inserted into a bore in the proximal end of the needle, to attach the suture to the needle. A staking unit has a pair of staking disc at least one of which is movable relative to the other. The dies are respecitvely provided therein with recesses between which the proximal end of the needle is staked. The staking unit is mounted on a table so as to be demountable therefrom. An electric power supply unit is provided which is separate from the staking unit, but is connected thereto through a plug and a socket. A foot switch is connected to the power supply unit for controlling the operation of the staking unit. A plurality of the staking units are prepared which include their respective pairs of staking dies different in dimension of the recesses from each other. One of the staking units is selected, which includes its corresponding pair of staking dies adapted to a needle to be staked.
Abstract: Apparatus for optically inspecting an object having a reflecting surface includes an irradiating device for emitting illuminating light; a shield member for reflecting the illuminating light to irradiate the object, and a light-receiving device for receiving an image of the object irradiated through the reflection of the illuminating light by the shield member. The shield member covers an extent of a field of vision of the light-receiving device through the reflection of the reflecting surface.
Abstract: A proton conductor gas sensor operable at room temperature for detecting hydrogen or carbon monoxide, and a gas detecting method using the sensor. A pair of electrodes connected to a proton conductor are short-circuited to cause protons to travel through the conductor utilizing the difference in activity between the electrodes or the difference in gas permeability between the electrode and an atmosphere containing the gas to be detected. The potential difference produced in the interior of the conductor by the travel of the protons is obtained as the output of the sensor. This output is in proportion to the concentration of the gas and low in humidity dependence.
Abstract: The pin incorporates a cylindrical body in which two sliding components are mounted, the two sliding components being intended to engage in lug holes or between the cheeks of a bracelet link or of a fastener. The sliding components have a threaded portion which is intended to be screwed into the lug holes so as to ensure locking of the pin. The cylindrical sliding components may either be held apart by a spring, or may be screwed into the tube.
Abstract: A unitary snap hinge made of plastic with two hinge parts which are connected with each other by means of a main joint. A flexible connecting piece is connected with the hinge parts by means of secondary joints, whereby the secondary joints have a distance from the main joint transverse to the joint axis and that the joints are designed as film joints. The hinge parts have the tendency to snap into the one or other end position from a position of an unsteady balance within their own pivot range. The snap hinge is a separate structural element. The one hinge part supports a locking element for a removal opening, the other hinge part supports at least one adapter piece with arresting elements. Thereby, the snap hinge can be mounted on a container or on the locking piece of the same.
