  • Patent number: 5837080
Abstract: A belt for use on a long nip press for dewatering a fibrous web includes a base assembled by spirally winding a prepared structure strip in a plurality of non-overlapping turns. Successive turns are abutted against and joined to those previously wound by sewing or otherwise bonding along the continuous spiral seam thus formed. The prepared structure strip may be a fabric strip woven from lengthwise and crosswise yarns, which may be monofilament yarns of a synthetic polymeric resin. The fabric strip may be of either a single- or multi-layer weave. At least one side of the base, namely, that side which will be on the inside of the belt in its endless loop form, and which slides over the arcuate pressure shoe component of the long nip press during its operation, is coated with a polymeric resin, such as polyurethane, to render it impervious to liquids, and especially to the oil used to lubricate the surface of the arcuate pressure shoe.

  • Patent number: 5833898
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a resin-impregnated endless belt structure is carried out on an apparatus having an outer cylinder having an inner cylindrical surface coaxial with a smaller radius cylindrical mandrel. An endless base structure for the endless belt structure is disposed within the outer cylinder on the inner cylindrical surface. The cylindrical mandrel, having an inwardly curved nose, is then inserted into the outer cylinder forming a nip of converging geometry between the nose and the inner cylindrical surface. Polymeric resin material is dispensed continuously into the nip while the cylindrical mandrel is gradually moved completely into the outer cylinder. The nose forces the polymeric resin material into the endless base structure, and air bubbles out, while forcing the endless base structure against the inner cylindrical surface.

  • Patent number: 5832570
Abstract: A peel seal zipper tape for reclosable plastic bags or packages includes a first and a second mutually interlocking zipper profile disposed on a top surface of a laminated film strip. The top surface is formed by a layer of a sealant material. The laminated film strip also has a middle layer, or core, of a material stiffer than the first and second mutually interlocking zipper profiles, and may also have a bottom layer of a sealant material. In use, the laminated film strip is folded over, and the zipper profiles are interlocked with one another. In doing so, portions of the top surface of the laminated film strip face inwardly, so that the folded film strip may be closed with a heat seal. The outside of the folded peel seal zipper tape, that is, the bottom layer of sealant material is bonded to plastic sheet material from which reclosable plastic bags or packages are made. In the production of the bags or packages, the mutually facing portions of the laminated film strip are sealed together.

  • Patent number: 5833480
Abstract: A standoff ground connector for mounting a circuit board to a chassis in a piece of electronic equipment in a standoff grounded position relative thereto includes two pre-load form members, each including two opposed shanks with support portions for the circuit board. A mounting device including an arrowhead shaped portion and a contiguous portion of reduced width forms a detent mounting device for the circuit board. Inward and outward flexing of the arrowhead shaped portion causes the support portions of the pre-load form members to perform a wiping motion. Therefore, as the aperture of the circuit board moves from the arrowhead shaped portion into the detent position within the portion of reduced width, the pre-load form members perform this wiping motion.

  • Patent number: 5832140
Abstract: An image processing system with a quality assurance feature is disclosed for determining the quality of the images being processed. The system includes a plurality of sections operating independently and concurrently to insure reliability. One section includes calculation of a quality assurance parameter dependent on the fill factor and the compression ratio determined before and after compression respectively. A second section includes histogram hardware for generating qualified histograms representative of foreground data, and background data transitions and a comparator for detecting overlap therebetween. A third section develops a histogram parameter based on the areas of the histograms and compares this parameter to the quality assurance parameter for concurrence. The system also includes autosizing means for detecting the borders of an image using fuzzy logic.

  • Patent number: 5825392
Abstract: A head holder incorporating a thermal printing head is detachably mounted in a printing position defined in a thermal transfer printer by use of guide means. The head holder secured by the guide means is vertically moved by means for vertically moving the head holder so as to be positioned at a stand-by point in non-operation of printing, and at a print working point in operation of printing. When the head holder demounted for exchanging or other possible purposes is replaced in the printing position, the head holder is restrained by lateral and longitudinal spring members, thus being placed in an adequate printing position, so as to enable excellent printing on a recording medium such as ID cards to be successfully performed without marring the essential printing quality.
