  • Patent number: 7901914
Abstract: Known microbiological methods are based upon the application of pigment-forming bacteria, in particular Chromobacterium violaceum. The yield of these methods is very low, however, so that large industrial applications are not possible. However, in many fields of industry, there exists a very great demand for natural blue dyes which are substantially suitable for human digestion, which cannot be satisfied at present. Therefore, the method in accordance with the invention is characterized by the application of the newly discovered marine sediment bacterium Pseudoalteromonas species of the “Black Beauty” strain (originally deposited under file number DSM 13623 with the Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen GmbH., Braunschweig, Germany pursuant to the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure). Compared to conventional methods, this marine sediment bacterium leads to an about thirteen-fold yield.

  • Patent number: 7214948
Abstract: A high measuring resolution along with a large irradiation surface and a high beam intensity are required for structural analysis of material according to the small angle neutron scattering measuring technique. However, with known diaphragm collimators, the necessary beam divergence cannot be reached without an unacceptable loss of intensity. The inventive neutron optical component (1) comprises a plurality of successively arranged pinhole diaphragms embodied as grating diaphragms (7), each grating diaphragm (7) comprising a plurality of diaphragm apertures (14). In this way, the neutron beam is divided into individual beams which are each improved in terms of the convergence thereof. Furthermore, the channels defined by the course of the grating diaphragms (7) by means of respectively identically positioned diaphragm apertures (14) are narrowed according to the convergence cone provided by the structure of the measuring instrument.

  • Patent number: 7135916
Abstract: A digitally adjustable amplifier with adjustable input offset voltage and amplification parameters for use in integrated circuits. Such adjustments are carried out by a binary counter which controls a non-binary weighting element which by a non-binary weighting of each stage to the next stage intentionally has a non-linearity of the ideal characteristic curve because of greater negative steps at increasing value count so that the steps remain below one least significant bit. Thus greater errors even can be tolerated, and a desired value can be very closely attained.

  • Patent number: 7116406
Abstract: This invention relates to the structure of safety elements for documents and devices for the testing of test documents including said safety elements as well as procedures of application according to patent application DE 197 18 916.4. It is the object of this invention to complete the structure of safety elements by additional safety elements and to contemplate devices for the testing of said safety elements as well as a new application procedure of safety elements and devices which will make it very difficult, if not even impossible, for the counterfeiter to draw any conclusions from the functioning of the test procdures and devices to the safety elements to be tested and, thus, to produce counterfeits that are so similar to the originals that they are not detected by the test devices. The structure of the safety elements for documents to be tested provides a new design not primarily based on a visual examination but on test procedures.

  • Patent number: 7043068
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of detecting the displacement of individual brain areas and to the presentation thereof on a display for guaranteeing optimal planning of an operation, said displacements being caused by tumor formation. According to the invention a displacement vector is detected for each brain area which was situated at a defined location in the initial position where a tumor is located now. Said displacement vector defines the displacement of a brain area in the direction and the amount thereof, whereby said displacement is caused by tumor growth. Said vector is detected by means of two parameters (b and c) which can be derived from the size and the kind of the tumor. The displacement vectors are numerically calculated according to the formula ur=cr+br?2 after the two parameters have been detected. The image of the tumor as well as the detected displacements are subsequently inserted into a stereotactic atlas.

  • Patent number: 7030397
Abstract: A neutron-optical component array in which the beam paths of the individual moderators are combined in a concerted manner so as to create a superimposed neutron beam with an effective mean beam direction. The superimposed neutron beam has a multi spectrum composed of the single spectrums of several moderators, whereby a larger spectral width is obtained, making various applications in different neutron energy fields possible. The multi spectrum can be further improved in terms of the intensity thereof and the beam quality by adding further neutron-optical components, particularly in the form of an energy-depending switching super reflector, and by switching between moderators.

  • Patent number: 7019207
Abstract: Known methods of producing large-surface integrated thin-film solar modules with an amorphous, poly- or microcrystalline absorber layer always comprise division and conversion structuring processes which can cause instabilities in the structuring and which are relatively expensive. According to the inventive method which can be used to fabricate substrate solar cells and superstrate solar cells, the mask which is used provides for structuring itself during the deposition of layers for the rear electrode and the absorber layer through its geometrical form. The use of a mask which can be reused as an independent element after use in this method allows for a relatively free range of possible geometric forms. This also makes possible applications inside and outside of buildings, including in the area of a window, from an esthetic and informal point of view.
