  • Patent number: 8243736
Abstract: A next sequence number, which is a sequence number that a next packet should have, is compared with the sequence number of a current packet, an identifier of a previous packet is compared with the identifier of the current packet, and a delay is judged to be a simple delay when the next sequence number matches the sequence number of the current packet and the identifier of the previous packet is followed by the identifier of the current packet. Or the delay is judged to be caused by a retransmission when the identifier of the previous packet is not followed by the identifier of the current packet.

  • Patent number: 8243728
Abstract: An apparatus includes means for transmitting a packet, through one of a plurality of pseudo wires, from a PW ingress node thereof to a PW egress node thereof. Each of the plurality of pseudo wires is a communication path for transmitting a packet between a pair of end nodes included in three or more nodes communicably connected via a tunnel in a packet switched network. The PW ingress node is one of the pair of end nodes from which the packet comes into the one of the plurality of pseudo wires, and the PW egress node is the other one of the pair of end nodes from which the packet goes out thereof. The apparatus further includes means for extracting a packet transmitted through the one of the plurality of pseudo wires from among packets being transmitted through the tunnel.

  • Patent number: 8237412
Abstract: A battery charger is disclosed for use with various batteries, such as automotive and marine-type batteries. In accordance with an aspect of the invention, the charging current is alternated between non-zero DC charging current levels. By alternating the charging current between non-zero DC charging levels, the battery can be charged to a higher capacity (i.e., ampere hours) faster, thus reducing the charging time and at the same time allow the rating of the battery charger to be increased. In accordance with another important aspect of the invention, the technique for alternating the charging current can be implemented in both linear and switched-mode battery chargers.

  • Patent number: 8236675
Abstract: A method is proposed for the fabrication of the gate electrode of a semiconductor device such that the effects of gate depletion are minimized. The method is comprised of a dual deposition process wherein the first step is a very thin layer that is doped very heavily by ion implantation. The second deposition, with an associated ion implant for doping, completes the gate electrode. With the two-deposition process, it is possible to maximize the doping at the gate electrode/gate dielectric interface while minimizing risk of boron penetration of the gate dielectric. A further development of this method includes the patterning of both gate electrode layers with the advantage of utilizing the drain extension and source/drain implants as the gate doping implants and the option of offsetting the two patterns to create an asymmetric device.

  • Patent number: 8233661
Abstract: Candidate contour curves for a tracking object in the current frame are determined using a particle filter, based on the existence probability distribution of the tracking object in a frame which is one frame previous to the current frame. To match a candidate curve against a contour image of the current frame, a processing to search for the closest contour to the candidate curves is divided for each knot constituting the candidate contour curve and is executed in parallel by a plurality of processors. Each image data on a search region for each knot to be processed are copied from a contour image stored in an image storage to the respective local memories.

  • Patent number: 8233918
Abstract: A digital content distribution system and method are disclosed for delivering location specific content to an ad hoc group of mobile subscribers. The system consists of a downloadable application that runs on the subscribers mobile communication device and communicates with a server-based content composer system. The content composer system manages outgoing content based upon the geographic location reported by a mobile communication device application and the demographic and preference data stored in a subscriber database. Emergency alerts are sent only to subscribers in a area covered by the alert. The emergency alerts are executed on the mobile communication device even though the mobile communication device is in a low power sleep or hibernate mode. Moreover, the emergency alerts take over the mobile communications device no matter what other tasks are being executed when the emergency alert is received.

  • Patent number: 8225613
Abstract: A combustion system for performing stable combustion and flame stabilization at high altitudes is described. A primary liquid hydrocarbon fuel is atomized and vaporized within the main combustor chamber to produce a primary fuel vapor. When the combustion system operates at a high altitude, a secondary gaseous fuel is fed into the inlet air port such that the secondary fuel mixes with air, thereby enabling the mixture of the air and the secondary fuel to combust in a catalytic reactor to produce high temperature, oxygen-rich gases that flow into the main combustor chamber. Proper proportional amounts of the two fuels are determined as a function of altitude.
