Abstract: A scissors action shearing machine for sectioning reinforcing rod is equipped with replaceable, hardened steel shear blocks affixed to each scissors mounting blade with each such block and blade pierced to provide a communicating aperture through the entire structure for enabling reinforcing rod to be inserted therethrough whereupon one blade with affixed shear block is rotatively biased with respect to the other to section the rod.
Abstract: A double walled, tubular vessel is configured with a central cavity into which a paint roller can be placed for washing while the roller cover is mounted on a handle frame. A hose fitting is provided to enable connection to be made to a kitchen or bathroom faucet or spigot, or to a pump to provide pressurized water or solvent to the double walled shell manifold from which the liquid sprays through openings in the inner wall into the cavity, impinging on the roller tangentially. The nap of the roller cover is penetrated by the liquid and the roller is caused to spin on its handle resulting in the paint and liquid wash being discharged centrifugally against the wall of the cavity, from which it drains by gravity without mess or splatter into a collecting vessel.
Abstract: To eliminate interference with radio reception, static electricity generated by a vehicle tire during operation can be dissipated by the retrofit attachment of one end of a spring wire to the wheel hub with insertion of the other end through a vent opening in the wheel bearing cap to contact the end face of the wheel mounting spindle to provide a conductive path to the vehicle frame without dismantling of the bearing seal.
Abstract: To enable mail bags to be disengaged from a bag rack without lifting, bag hooks are provided with a constant radius curvature about a pivotal axis and are equipped with a handle for enabling them to be rotatively manually biased so that when used alone or in conjunction with fixed top bag supporting posts, a filled mail bag may be released from a bag rack and closed without requiring strenuous physical exertion on the part of a postal worker.
Abstract: Continuously cast steel billet is sectioned to length while the core of the casting is molten by being pinched-off to seal the ends of the casting sections and contain molten core metal, effecting thereby energy conservation and economic savings in the production of steel products. The inventive method and means avoids tensilely stressing the casting lessening the risk that the skin of the casting will be caused to rupture from being stretched and that molten metal from the core of the casting will spill to ruin the casting and endanger personnel and equipment.
Abstract: Continuous casting of metal is optimumly practiced by pouring a casting configured with a trapezoidal cross-section, which issues from the bottom of a mold curvilinearly directed to horizontal extension where it is passed between vertically aligned squeeze rolls which compressively deform and narrow the cross-sectional configuration from trapezoidal to rectilinear and thereby straighten and true the casting for being pinched-off and sectioned to length while the core of the casting is molten. The inventive method and means avoids tensilely stressing the casting, lessening the risk that the skin of the casting will rupture from being stretched and that molten metal from the core of the casting will spill endangering personnel and equipment and ruining the casting.
Abstract: A supporting standard for stationary farm implements is configured with a horizontally extending trough-like foot of downward-narrowing cross-section to enable the foot to sit lightly on soft earth and be easily extracted from frozen soil.
Abstract: Adjustable hand grips for an elastic exercise cable are provided by resilient hollow balls through which the cable is laced passing in holes which lie in at least two planes which intersect within each grip.
Abstract: Filtering apparatus comprising two rolls of wound tissue axially stacked with a discharge gallery separating them for receiving flow entering from the outboard ends of the stack is provided with an improvement for sealing the discharge gallery from short circuited flow entering it by placing tissue windings in overlapping arrangement with the periphery of the rolls to cover at least partially circumferential faces of the rolls and isolate the discharge gallery effectively without the use of sealing material dissimilar from the filtering medium.
Abstract: A portable monorail accessory with traversable carriage for use by blind bowlers to align themselves with a bowling alley in preparing to bowl a ball is described.
Abstract: Decorative and utilitarian modular furniture articles can be arranged into a variety of configurations embodying stacks of shelves from packaged components comprising pre-finished tubing sections with concealed cable or threaded rod fasteners supplied for being inserted into the tube sections to join the components into rigid assembly.
Abstract: An adapter for use with internal combustion engine lubricating oil filter apparatus is provided for enabling a polishing filter of fine pore size to be placed in parallel flow arrangement with a full flow filter without jeopardizing the adequacy of filtered oil flow to the oil galleries of an engine.
Abstract: A portable support stand, convertibly used either as a stool or tree stand platform, is configured with adjustably hinged frame members, at least one of which is furcated, for being interspaced, crossed and pivotally joined to provide a stool when fitted is a sling seat or to provide a tree platform when toggled between limbs in the crotch of a tree.
Abstract: A forged metal spur gear is configured with one lateral face extremity portion extended to the addendum circle of the gear teeth for proving increased load carrying capacity to a gear of a given size.
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for obtaining a field sample from a body of liquid which preserves sample quality against deterioration resulting from contamination, aeration, or escape of volatile components. The procedure involves fitting the field sampling container with septum cap and sealed end closures after the sample is taken and using the container for transport and storage of the sample prior to analysis.
Abstract: Critical damping of a dynamic loudspeaker is achieved by placing a supplemental, short circuited coil of similar configuration and mounting alignment to that of the drive coil in rearward adjacency thereto for being biased into the flux gap during extreme forward excursion of the speaker cone and drive coil. External circuit elements connected to the supplemental coil provide desired impedance for damping particular resonant frequencies.High ambient-temperature performance capability for functioning of a speaker in a public address system or to sound an alarm during a fire is provided by use of an aluminum cone diaphragm and a plastomer coated glass cloth surround.
