  • Patent number: 7666810
Abstract: A magnesium titanium olefin polymerization procatalyst is prepared by A) reacting a diorganomagnesium compound with a source of active chlorine, (with the proviso that the amount of chlorine is insufficient to completely convert the diorganomagnesium to magnesium dichloride); then B) removing unreacted diorganomagnesium from the reaction product; then depositing a tetravalent titanium species on the reaction product. This procatalyst is highly active for the solution polymerization of olefins when combined with a cocatalyst.

  • Patent number: 7650930
Abstract: A process for the solution polymerization of olefins with improved on-stream time is provided. The solution polymerization process of the current invention comprises a method for the on-line removal of foulant material from one or more heat exchangers downstream of a polymerization reactor. Removal of foulant material is accomplished by deliberately applying a positive pressure differential across a heat exchanger. In the process of the current invention, reactor shut down is not required for the purpose of cleaning foulant material from a heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 7569710
Abstract: An improved process for the recovery of a high-purity, ethylene oxide-water stream for use as feed to integrated ethylene glycol or ethylene oxide purification reactors by first contacting the gaseous effluent from ethylene oxide reactors with an aqueous alkaline quench solution water wash, then absorbing ethylene oxide from the washed vapor into process water to produce a dilute EO-water absorbate of which 10-90% is sent directly to the EO reabsorber/residual absorber, thereby bypassing the EO stripper.

  • Patent number: 7513988
Abstract: Less conventional sources of hydrocarbon feedstocks such as oil sands, tar sands and shale oils are being exploited. These feedstocks generate a larger amount of heavy oil, gas oil, asphaltene products and the like containing multiple fused aromatic ring compounds. These multiple fused aromatic ring compounds can be converted into feed for a hydrocarbon cracker by first hydrogenating at least one ring in the compounds and subjecting the resulting compound to a ring opening and cleavage reaction. The resulting product comprises lower paraffins suitable for feed to a cracker, higher paraffins suitable for example as a gasoline fraction and mono aromatic ring compounds (e.g. BTX) that may be further treated.

  • Patent number: 7476715
Abstract: The use of high activity “Single Site” polymerization catalysts often causes the fouling of polymerization reactors. The problem is particularly acute with gas phase polymerizations. While not wishing to be bound by theory it is believed that the fouling is initiated by the buildup of static charges in the reactor. The use of anti-static agents mitigates this problem, but typical antistatic agents contain polar species, which can deactivate the polymerization catalyst. We have now discovered that the use of a porous metal oxide support allows large levels of a selected antistatic agent to be used in a manner that reduces static/fouling problems in highly active polymerization catalysts.

  • Patent number: 7442845
Abstract: Ethers are cracked to olefins using a gamma-alumina catalyst in the presence of ammonia. The use of ammonia improves the selectivity to linear alpha olefins in comparison to cracking reactions in the absence of ammonia. The use of ammonia is convenient in comparison to known processes which employ alumina which as been treated with an amine. A preferred process produces octene-1 from 1-methoxyoctane.

  • Patent number: 7431129
Abstract: A composite scaffolding plank made from a plurality of wooden boards positioned in side to side parallel abutment. A plurality of spaced pins extend transversely through the wooden boards. A cam means on the pins pulls and holds the boards together. In one preferred embodiment where the plurality of wooden boards are from a single board that is ripcut, the strength of the wooden plank is increased by cutting the plank longitudinally, positioning the resulting sections in side to side parallel abutment with the wood grains alternating directions, and to subsequently embedding a plurality of spaced pins in the sections.
