  • Patent number: 6822691
Abstract: A motion decision value provides a dependable estimate whether motion occurs in a given region of a video image in an interlaced video sequence. The motion detection is particularly applicable in the conversion from interlaced video to progressive video. An input first is fed to an absolute value former which computes a frame difference signal from a difference between the first field and the second field in one frame. A point-wise motion detection in the frame difference signal is then followed by a region-wise motion detection that combines the point-wise motion detection signal with an adjacent point-wise motion detection signal delayed by one field. The motion decision value is then computed from the region-wise motion detection signal and output for further processing in the video signal processing system, such as for choosing whether the spatially interpolated video signal value or the temporally interpolated video signal value should be used for the output.

  • Patent number: 6798422
Abstract: A filtering method and filtering system is applied to an edge orientation map obtained from an edge direction detection system in order to keep accurate edge directions and filter out false edges or edges with wrong directions. If an edge direction does not have a certain minimum length, then that direction is filtered out and a default direction is provided. Additional assurances can be obtained by insuring that the edge direction has a certain minimum width. If an edge direction does not have the minimum width, then that edge direction is filtered out and the default direction is provided. A direction smoother can be applied to the directions in the edge orientation map to smooth the changing of neighboring edge directions. This process is found to be effective in improving the visual quality of an image that is interpolated based on edge directions.

  • Patent number: 6792127
Abstract: A high frequency transducer having a dome diaphragm with a configuration of a bisected ellipse to overcome the distortion and breaking point of prior art even domes at frequencies above 30 kHz. The dome diaphragm having an annular skirt extending therefrom in an integral fashion and connecting to a disc shaped plate of the transducer. A voice coil of cylindrical section being directly connected to the skirt at a region of close proximity to said dome. The dome being constructed of a rigid material such as a metal, an alloy, a metalloid such as, but not limited to, titanium, aluminum, and boron, or a combination thereof. The dome being constructed in accordance with a general formula for an ellipse (x2/a2)+(y2/b2)=1, and a>b. Wherein a is half of the distance of major axis and b is half of the distance of a minor axis.

  • Patent number: 6776048
Abstract: A tribological test apparatus has a supporting structure, to which are fitted a central shaft rotating about a respective axis, and three peripheral shafts rotating about respective axes equally spaced angularly about the axis of the central shaft; the central shaft and peripheral shafts respectively support a central specimen and three peripheral specimens facing one another radially; and the apparatus has three actuators, each for exerting on a relative peripheral specimen a force directed towards the central specimen, and a guide and slide device associated with each peripheral shaft to enable each peripheral specimen, in use, to translate radially towards the central specimen and exert a contact pressure on the central specimen by virtue of the force generated by the relative actuator.

  • Patent number: 6769668
Abstract: A jack for lifting an object includes a base assembly and a jacking assembly. The base assembly has a frame with a base member having a nesting chamber, lifting arms pivotably connected to the base member, and a support member for supporting the object. The support member is pivotably connected to the lifting arms and is disposed parallel to the base member. The support member and the lifting arms pivot with respect to the base member into positions including a fully raised position wherein the support member is lifted away from the base member and a fully lowered position wherein the support members and the lifting arms are at least partly nested within the nesting chamber. The jacking assembly is connected to the base assembly for moving the support members and the lifting arms from the fully lowered position towards the fully raised position.

  • Patent number: 6745867
Abstract: A mid-frequency loudspeaker drive unit includes a substantially conical diaphragm having a forward periphery and a surround connected to and extending from the forward periphery of the diaphragm to form a substantially smooth transition from the diaphragm to the surround, the diaphragm and the surround presenting a substantially smoothly continuous outwardly facing surface. The drive unit can be part of a compound loudspeaker drive unit including a high-frequency drive unit coaxially disposed within the diaphragm and a chassis encompassing the mid-frequency drive unit with the surround being secured to the chassis to form the smooth transition from the diaphragm to the surround.

  • Patent number: 6739817
Abstract: Binding device wherein a support structure (2) houses a pack of sheets provided with through-holes (133) aligned along a rectilinear edge of the pack. The structure moreover carries a binding member comprising a flat sheet-like rectangular member (100) showing, along a side thereof (100a), a plurality of flexible tongues (107) arranged combwise and a closure member (110) extending along the side (100a). The binding device is provided with a bending wall (70) mobile with respect to the pack and adapted to realize the bending of tongues portions projecting from the pack on an end flat member forming a first face of the same pack. A pressing device (90) further realises bending of the closure member (110) to arrange the closure member (110) on bent tongues (107) and on the end flat member (130b) thereby forming a bound fascicle.

  • Patent number: 6714259
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for receiving digital television signals where the receiver is capable of demodulating and demultiplexing the digital television signals from multiple, independent transmission channels. The preferred embodiment of the present invention provides for a Dual Channel Digital TV Receiver which receives signals from two independent transmission channels. In order to address each of the digital television signals from the two independent transmission channels, the Dual Channel Digital TV Receiver of the preferred embodiment of the present invention includes two independent paths for channel demodulation and transport stream demultiplexing. Thus, within the Dual Channel Digital TV Receiver of the preferred embodiment of the present invention, a signal from each of the transmission channels are received, decoded and sent for further processing or viewing, as desired by the user.
