  • Patent number: 7241622
Abstract: A method was developed for the screening of antioxidant efficacy in food and feed matrices. The novel method uses radical initiators to accelerate the oxidation process. Consequently the screening of the oxidation process can be performed at significantly lower temperatures compared to the existing methods. The use of initiators improves the correlation between accelerated screening and real shelf life. This resolves an important issue that is frequently raised concerning the applicability of accelerated oxidation tests conducted at high temperatures. Furthermore feed and food products can be analyzed in their original states because lower temperatures have less influence on the product matrix.

  • Patent number: 7210664
Abstract: Supplemental bridging straps are used to increase the strength of a flexible metal concrete form assembly. A metal form has a flexible panel member with a perimetral flange projected laterally from one side thereof. Each of a pair of transversely opposite side sections of the flange is segmented by a plurality of longitudinally spaced V-shaped notches having their apices adjacent the one side of the panel member to provide for a lateral flexing movement of the panel member to a preselected shape. With the panel member in the predetermined shape, the segments in each of the flange side sections are connected together against relative movement to retain the predetermined shape of the panel member. In a first preferred embodiment, each flange segment is connected to an adjacent flange segment by a flexible metal strap. In a second preferred embodiment, extended flexible metal straps are used to interconnect a central flange segment to each of the pair of adjacent flange segments.

  • Patent number: 7169424
Abstract: A mold inhibitor is described which is a combination of a salt of propionic acid and an essential oil. The essential oil is selected from the group that includes but is not limited to cinnamon oil, eucalyptus oil, lemongrass oil, palmrosa oil, rosemary oil, sage oil, cassia oil, and thyme oil. The essential oil of cinnamon bark (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) has a synergistic effect with propionic acid in mold inhibition. The new mold inhibitors have improved efficacy, are less corrosive and are cost effective.

  • Patent number: 7125853
Abstract: We describe the use of bicyclic carbohydrates for the treatment of hepatitis C virus infections. Different bicyclic carbohydrates were tested in vitro against DNA-viruses, retro-viruses and Flaviviridae sp., an important family of human and animal RNA pathogens. Significant activity was observed against the bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV). As pestiviruses, such as BVDV, share many similarities with hepatitis C virus (HCV), the bicyclic carbohydrates in general and the preferred bicyclic carbohydrates more specifically are expected to be a treatment for hepatitis C viral infections.

  • Patent number: 7125854
Abstract: The use of bicyclic carbohydrates for the treatment of parasite infections is described. Different bicyclic carbohydrates have been tested in vitro against a number of protozoa. These compounds also have been screened against viruses, tumors, bacteria and fungi. Compound A1, a thiophenyl-containing bicyclic carbohydrate possessed significant activity against Trypanosoma brucei rhodiense, a parasite that causes the lethal sleeping sickness. Compound A2 and Compound A3, bicyclic carbohydrates with halogen containing aryl groups, possessed significant activity against Leishmania donovani, a parasite that causes leishmaniasis. Bicyclic carbohydrates in general, and Compound A1, Compound A2 and Compound A3 more specifically, could be possible treatments for the sleeping sickness and leishmaniasis in the future.

  • Patent number: 7007101
Abstract: A computer system having a network processor comprising a core processor and at least one microengine in operative communication with the core processor is provided. A table comprised of a plurality of entries with IP addresses associated therewith is built, wherein the entries are organized hierarchically according to an LC-Trie compression algorithm operating on the IP addresses. An Information packet is received within the computer system, wherein the information packet has a destination IP address associated therewith. The table is searched using an LC-Trie search algorithm to find a match between an IP address of an entry in the table and the destination IP address of the information packet. The information packet is transmitted to a forwarding IP address associated with the IP address of the matching entry. An interface is provided to accommodate communication between the core processor and microengine of the network processor.

  • Patent number: 7001625
Abstract: A process for the solid-phase synthesis of salts of organic acids in a granular, free-flowing, and dust-free form particularly suited for use as animal feed additives. A mixture of liquid organic acids, including butyric acid, is applied to an inert, absorbent carrier. A solid base is then added during stirring. The acid is slowly released from the carrier preventing the fast reactions that lead to the formation of clumps. The exothermic reaction releases heat which assists in reducing the moisture content of the product. The addition of butyric acid results in a product which has an improved effect on animal growth over the animal feed additive without the addition of butyric acid.

  • Patent number: 6941708
Abstract: A reduced friction coupling which interconnects a lower, supporting member and an upper, supported member of a concrete forming apparatus to reduce the force required to lower the height of the forming apparatus under load on the members by a formed concrete structure. Two or more polymeric washers are received about the supporting member between a threaded nut which is used for adjusting the height of the forming apparatus and the supported member. The polymeric washers reduce by a surprising amount the force required to retract the nut under load. Washers of molybdenum disulphide filled nylon can support up to 10,000 pounds per square inch and reduce the force required to retract the nut by at least sixty percent under such a load compared to the force required if a single steel washer is used.
