  • Patent number: 5590611
Abstract: A liquid fertilizer injection system is provided that includes a single coulter blade mounted on a support arm extending from a bracket which is adapted to be pivotally coupled to an attachment apparatus which attaches the system to a propulsion means. A spray arm is adapted at one end is attached to the support arm and is adjustable in the up and down direction by means of a slot bracket. A second end of the spray arm is attached to a spray nozzle which is adapted to receive a flexible tube. The flexible tube transfers, to the nozzle, liquid fertilizer, under pressure, from a liquid reservoir via a pump. The system further includes a tension spring assembly which provides a down-force, determined by the user, to the coulter assembly, while isolating the system from the propulsion means, thereby preventing lifting of a planter or seeder to which the system is connected off of the ground.

  • Patent number: 5588430
Abstract: Repeat fixation for medical procedures is accomplished using a non-invasive locator, specifically a bite plate. The bite plate has at least three fiducial markers on it. The fiducial markers may be LEDs, radiopaque markers for angiography or computerized tomography (CT) imaging or magnetic resonance markers for magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. By detecting the position of the markers, the position of features within the patient (such as a brain tumor or other intracranial target to which radiation is to be applied) can be determined with great precision. Since the bite plate has been molded to uniquely fit to the patient's teeth, it may be removed after an initial imaging of the patient. The bite plate may then be re-attached one or more times to the teeth and the location of the features will be in a known position relative to the sensed markers.

  • Patent number: 5584248
Abstract: A tamping vehicle uses a split tool mechanical vibrator having corresponding front and back vibrator units powered by a single motor. Sprockets and a synchronous sprocket belt drive front and back units to vibrate 180 degrees out of phase. A lubricant carrying belt carries oil to the top of a housing for lubricating and cooling various moving parts. Squeeze cylinders are used to move tamping tools to squeeze in positions by rotating the tamping tools about the same axes as rotation of vibration inducing shafts. Independently liftable gauge and field side tamping assemblies allow use at railroad switches and other locations where narrow width tamping is needed. A tamping tool provides easy connection to a tamping tool holder in such a way that two tamping tools may be mounted to one tool holder.

  • Patent number: 5579553
Abstract: A railroad ballast broom vehicle uses a double or split auger to move ballast received from a rotary core broom. The auger has various features to minimize the risk of it jamming on ballast which it moves to the field side of rails of the railroad bed which is being swept. Flex plates are used to mount broom drive hydraulic motors to minimize or avoid problems which might otherwise be caused by slight misalignments in the motors and the rotary core of the broom. A dust control system is used to minimize escape of dust from operation of the vehicle. A method of using the vehicle advantageously uses only a single pass of the vehicle over a given section of road bed in need of sweeping.
