  • Patent number: 7113021
Abstract: The invention relates to a voltage processing unit comprising an integrated charge pump 11 for multiplying a voltage Vx applied to an input of the integrated charge pump 11 by a predetermined factor Xm. In order to enable a multiplication of an available voltage by a desired factor with a reduced required area for the integrated charge pump, it is proposed that the voltage processing unit further comprises an external voltage doubling circuit 12 for amplifying an available voltage Vdd and for applying the amplified voltage Vx to the input of the integrated charge pump 11. The invention relates equally to a corresponding method.

  • Patent number: 7064501
Abstract: A circuit arrangement is described for generating a sawtooth current in a cathode ray tube deflection coil. The circuit arrangement has a first and a second multiresonant section. The sections are arranged in series. The cathode ray tube deflection coil is part of the first section. The second section has an inductor. Each section provides a trace period in which the sawtooth current is generated in the cathode ray tube deflection coil and a retrace period in which flyback of the sawtooth current is provided. The circuit arrangement further has a current control circuit coupled to the inductor for controlling the course of the sawtooth current.

  • Patent number: 7050415
Abstract: A wireless network includes a radio network controller and a plurality of terminals which are provided for transmitting useful data over logic channels which have different priorities, which are mapped onto exactly one transport channel, respectively. The data transmission over a plurality of combined (multiplexed) transport channels is determined by transport format combinations. The respective most favorable transport format combination is selected at the beginning of a radio frame, given the packet data units waiting in the buffers of the logic channels. Further, the logic channels are sorted while their priorities, their buffer occupancy and the transmission time interval of the associated transport channel are taken into account.

  • Patent number: 6978127
Abstract: A hand-held information processing device, such as a mobile phone, has a thumb wheel that lets the user scan a circular array of options. Each respective one of the options is represented by a respective audio output that gets played out when the wheel is turned a notch up or down. This enables the user to select an option with one hand and without having to look at the device. It also allows for a form factor smaller than that of a conventional mobile phones since a keypad is not needed for entering digits to make a call from a personalized directory.

  • Patent number: 6963888
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for preventing noise from influencing a random number generator that is based on the meta-stable behavior of flip-flops. External noise will affect multiple flip-flops in a larger random number generator circuit in the same way, since they are physically close. Thus, the ability to influence the operation of a random number generator using external noise is reduced by incorporating a plurality of flip-flops, referred to herein as core random elements, in a single random number generator. If one of the core random elements in a random number generator is influenced by noise, all of the core random elements will be influenced by the noise. Thus, if all (or most) of the core random elements issue a random bit at the same time, there is a possibility that the random number generator was influenced by noise, and all the issued bits are discarded.

Abstract: A docking adapter capable of cooling a memory storage device such as a hard disk drive includes a carrier and a rack. The carrier has a face with a vent, a backplane, a first lateral side and second lateral side extending perpendicularly from the face to the backplane. At least one lateral side of the carrier has a periphery defining an opening. The rack has a first lateral rail and a second lateral rail configured for receiving the carrier. The carrier includes a fan mounted on the lateral rail of the rack to blow air through the opening of the carrier. In an alternate embodiment of the invention, the fan is mounted on the carrier and the rack has a lateral opening. In each case, air is vented directly from the carrier to cool the hard disk drive.

  • Patent number: 6193229
Abstract: A signature feeder for delivering stacked signatures to a conveyer or gatherer includes a variable speed separator disk for separating signatures from the stacked signatures. The separator disk mechanically couples with a servomotor. The separator disk has a blade with a leading edge and a trailing edge. The servomotor accelerates the separator disk through the stacked signatures to separate signatures from the stacked signatures. After a signature separates from the stacked signatures, the servomotor slows the separator disk.

  • Patent number: 6007459
Abstract: A method and system for providing physical therapy to a human client having a physical condition includes the steps of providing an electronic communication link between the client and a therapist, instructing the client to move in a particular manner, or to assume a sustained posture or perform a test. Then, feedback is requested from the client. The feedback relates to bodily sensation corresponding to the movement or sustained posture and can be audio, video, and/or data type feedback. The communication link communicates the feedback to the therapist. Accordingly, the therapist utilizes the feedback to assess the physical condition of the client. The therapist also communicates remedial movements or a remedial sustained posture to the client to address the physical condition. Various postural measurements and testing devices are be used in conjunction with the present invention to facilitate assessment and help address the physical condition in accordance with accepted physical therapy techniques.

  • Patent number: 6002779
Abstract: A recipient-specific voice message playback system detects the presence of a message recipient, identifies the recipient, and plays a message addressed to the recipient. The system includes a recorder. The recorder has multiple channels for recording voice messages. Each channel is assigned to a particular message recipient. A controller couples to the recorder and generates a control signal to regulate message recordation and playback on each channel. A switch also couples to the controller and is associated with each channel. Each switch directs the controller to selectively playback or record a message on each associated channel. The playback system includes a sensor and an alarm. The sensor detects the presence of a recipient and causes the alarm to notify the recipient when a message has been recorded. Actuation of a particular switch identifies a particular recipient and accesses the channel assigned to the particular recipient.
