  • Patent number: 4713885
Abstract: A utility knife utilizing a standard commercial blade as a handle forming a guide for a blade slide and also serving as a housing for the blade in a retracted safe position. The blade slide is advanced and retracted by a toggle linkage connected with an operating lever pivotally attached to the handle and biased by a spring to a position causing automatic retraction of the blade into the housing when the lever is released. When the lever is grasped and pulled toward the handle for advancing the blade to a use position, the toggle linkage assumes a straight line dead center slide and blade locking position.

  • Patent number: 4707963
Abstract: Muntin bar molded anchors are installed on the interior edges of a window sash or sliding door frame by utilizing a two-part anchor holding and nail driving device which is stabilized during use. Molded clips are frictionally installed in recesses formed in the ends of muntin bars and the clips are snap locked over crowned surfaces of the anchors to complete the installation of the muntin assembly.

  • Patent number: 4707172
Abstract: A device for transferring the energy emitted by a high power laser onto a target characterized in that it comprises two guides of optical fibre having step index refraction distribution and at least a plastic material coating. The first guide, stiffly coupled to the laser source, is a variable section fibre with an input face of larger diameter. Guide is the second one by a uniform or variable section fibre with a larger diameter near the output terminal. The two guides are joined by a low leakage optical fibre connector, and between them an adapter can be interposed if the output section of the first guide of fibre does not coincide with the input section of the second guide of fibre. The variable section fibre can be drawn from a pre-moulded or melted material, with the speed controlled by an electronic circuit. Different kinds of pots can be utilized in order to obtain the fibre plastic coating.

  • Patent number: 4701061
Abstract: A brake shaft bearing assembly for an "S" cam type brake shaft has pairs of needle rollers which bear on the brake shaft and which run in outer races fitted in a bearing housing on a vehicle. Each outer race is of stepped configuration to provide an abutment face locating it in the housing and is fitted with a dust seal assembly at its outer end. The bearing assembly is retained in the housing by a circlip fitted to the brake shaft.

  • Patent number: 4692134
Abstract: A machine for making a unitized stack of vest type bags from a tubular plastic web comprising, essentially, a horizontal frame (1) adjoining at one end a unit for unwinding the plastic film (2) in an intermediate portion supporting transversal rollers (3) and a cutter unit (4), the former for pulling the film (2) and the latter for cutting out the straps of the bags. At the opposite extremity of the frame (1) there is provided a sealing and cutter unit (5) at the outlet of which there is disposed a bundling and ejector unit (6) to accomplish the bundling of various bags for forming and ejecting blocks of bags. The bundling and ejector unit (6) has a sealing table (7) interposed between a tilting vane (8) and a tilting table (9). Sealing electrodes in the shape of pins (12) perform the sealing of various bags making up a block and alongside of which are needles (13) to stabilize the bags on the table (7).

  • Patent number: 4687109
Abstract: An all-electric radio controlled slack pulling, braking and battery recharging system for logging operations on a moutainside is disclosed. Independent battery powered slack pulling and radio and brake electrical systems are provided, together with alternators which recharge the storage batteries of the electrical system in response to movement of alternator driving sheaves along a skyline in either direction. The drop or skidline is pulled through a carriage by a electric slack puller motor connected through a torque multiplier with a line pulling sheave. Skyline and drop or skidline brakes are applied by low pressure hydraulics boosted by spring pressure and are released by higher hydraulic pressure.

  • Patent number: 4686855
Abstract: An inflation pressure indicator (100) for pneumatic tires for vehicles has a body (101) mountable on a wheel rim (149) to which a tire is fitted. A piston (122) is slidably mounted in a bore (102) in the body (101), and, at a preselected pressure, moves in the bore (102) against the compression spring (125) to a position adjacent a datum line (136) on the body (101). A tire valve (130) is fitted to the piston (122) to enable the tire to be inflated or deflated, when an air hose fitting is connected to the body (101). By selective injection moulding of the body (101) from polycarbonate, the length of the body (101) will increase with increased heat so that the indicator (100) will correctly indicate the cold tire pressure when the tire is hot.

  • Patent number: 4685586
Abstract: A door system for a boiler penthouse or other high temperature industrial environment is disclosed. A sufficiently large entranceway for both workmen and large equipment is provided by the door system. The access door has the capability for quick gas-tight sealing during closing. A hinged metal door plate has arcuate welding beads applied to its internal surface near its corners to produce permanent inward cupping of the door plate adjacent to its corners. Devices apply pressure to the exterior surface of the door plate during the closing thereof to flatten the inwardly cupped corners and effect gas-tight sealing of the interior surface of the door plate near its margin with an opposing high temperature resistant gasket carried by the front face of a refractory insulated door frame. A layer of thermal insulating material in a protective jacket is secured to the interior surface of the door plate.
