  • Patent number: 8004222
Abstract: A negative sequence feedback circuit is connected to monitor and minimize unbalances in a high-frequency ac carrier signal provided to a motor/load for the purpose of detecting rotor position. The negative sequence feedback circuit detects unbalances in the high-frequency ac carrier signal and generates negative sequence feedback. The feedback is combined with command signals used to generate the high-frequency ac carrier signal, and the combination of the command signals with the negative sequence feedback is provided to an inverter for generation of the high-frequency ac carrier signal, wherein the negative sequence feedback reduces unbalances in the resulting high-frequency ac carrier signal such that a balanced high-frequency carrier signal is provided to the motor/load.

  • Patent number: 8000073
Abstract: A current-mode under voltage lockout (UVLO) circuit provides an output signal that indicates to connected devices whether a connected power supply is sufficient (i.e., of sufficient strength and stability) based on a comparison of a current that is proportional to the power supply and a reference current. The current-based UVLO circuit employs a reference current generator that is capable of providing a stable reference current and a voltage-to-current converter that provides a current proportional to the power supply voltage. A comparator compares the reference current to the current proportional to the power supply voltage and determines based on the magnitudes of the two currents whether the power supply voltage is sufficient or ‘good’ and generates an output signal indicating the status of the power supply voltage.

  • Patent number: 7995985
Abstract: Reducing power consumption and interference in wireless communication is provided. For example, in one embodiment, a method is provided that listens for radio frequency (“RF”) activity on a receiver utilizing a first receiver antenna. When no RF activity is detected the receiver is switched “on” and a command is transmitted. If a reply to the transmission is not received the receiver is turned “off.” After an expiration of time, the receiver is again switched “on” and another command is transmitted on a second antenna coupled to the receiver. Thereafter, if a reply is not received the receiver is again turned “off.” Embodiments of the invention also include other methods, computer-readable mediums, apparatuses, and systems that contain features similar to the features in the above described method.

  • Patent number: 7990244
Abstract: An electrically insulating bobbin surrounds the magnetic core of an inductor. The bobbin includes a number of channels to receive wire for making an inductor. When wire is positioned in the channels, the wire is wound around the inductor core, but insulated from the inductor core and the other turns of wire. Because the bobbin insulates the turns of wire from each other and from the inductor core, bare rope wire can be used to wrap the inductor, resulting in reduced size and weight and improved ease of manufacture.

  • Patent number: 7986538
Abstract: A controller for a multi-level converter regulates the DC midpoint voltage of the multi-level converter by accounting, for the effect non-redundant switch states have on the DC midpoint current. The controller includes a DC bus regulator that monitors the DC output voltage and generates in response a commanded voltage vector. The duty cycle calculator is operably connected to receive the commanded voltage vector generated by the DC-bus regulator and to generate in response to the commanded voltage vector duty cycles associated with non-redundant switch states. The DC midpoint regulator is operably connected to receive the non-redundant duty cycles calculated by the duty cycle calculator and to generate in response a first midpoint current command that accounts for the effect the non-redundant switch states have on the midpoint current.

  • Patent number: 7986968
Abstract: A control system uses a wireless network to provide communication between a host computer and field devices. The host and the field devices communicate with one another using control messages and response messages based upon a known control system protocol. The control and response messages are embedded as a payload within a wireless message that is transmitted over the wireless network. When the wireless message is received at its ultimate destination, the control or response message is separated from the wireless message and is delivered to the intended recipient (either a field device or the host computer).
