  • Patent number: 8348781
Abstract: Embodiments of a putter-type golf club head with an increased moment of inertia about the X axis (MOIxx) and an increased moment of inertia about the Z axis (MOIzz) are disclosed. Generally, the MOIzz is increased by designing the putter such that the center of gravity (CG) of the putter head is located at or behind the geometric center of the putter head. Additionally, the mass of the putter head is concentrated at the outer edges of the putter head. To accomplish this, the ratio of the width of the front of the putter head to the width of the rear of the putter head is no greater than 0.55:1. The MOIxx is further increased by locating the CG relatively close to the bottom of the putter head.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for improving wavelength control in tunable laser sources. Embodiments of the systems and methods include delivering a fraction of the light output from the laser to an optical filter subsystem. The optical filter subsystem is capable of outputting at least one filter response signal, and comprises 2 complementary optical etalon filters with nominally identical free spectral ranges but offset by nominally one third of the free spectral range. The filter response signal is processed in a control unit which executes a control algorithm to generate a tuning signal that is used to control the wavelength of the laser.

  • Patent number: 8341814
Abstract: Methods are provided for manufacturing piezoelectric devices. In an exemplary method, a base wafer is prepared that defines an array of multiple bases. Between each base on the wafer is a through-hole defined in respective parts by the respective edge surfaces of adjacent bases. A piezoelectric wafer is prepared that defines an array of multiple piezoelectric frames each having a piezoelectric vibrating piece and a surrounding frame portion. The vibrating piece includes an excitation electrode and extraction electrode. The extraction electrode extends to the through-hole. An adhesive is applied to a surface of the frame portion including a surface of the extraction electrode. The adhesive bonds the piezoelectric wafer to the base wafer. Excess adhesive is removed from the through-hole to expose a portion of the extraction electrode in the through-hole.

  • Patent number: 8345754
Abstract: Techniques and tools are described for signaling hypothetical reference decoder parameters for video bitstreams, including signaling of buffer fullness. For example, a buffer size syntax element indicates a decoder buffer size, and a buffer fullness syntax element indicates a buffer fullness as a fraction of the decoder buffer size. As another example, buffer fullness is signaled in one or more entry point headers and other hypothetical reference decoder parameters are signaled in a sequence header.

  • Patent number: 8343443
Abstract: A micro-fluidic device comprises a body. The body defines pneumatic ports, chambers for receiving liquids, and a connecting conduit. Each port is sealed with a seal and is shaped to couple to a pneumatic conduit through the seal. At least some of the chambers each have a top opening and a bottom opening. The top openings are in fluid communication with corresponding ports. The bottom openings are in fluid communication with one another through the connecting conduit, which is above the bottom openings. Selective application of pneumatic pressures to the chambers through the pneumatic conduits can transfer a liquid from one chamber to another through the connecting conduit, for example, for processing bio-samples within the device.

  • Patent number: 8344121
Abstract: The disclosure provides probes for one or more target molecules. In particular examples, the probes include a molecular linker and first and second functional groups linked and spaced by the molecular linker, wherein the functional groups are capable of interacting with one another or with the target biomolecule in a predetermined reaction, and wherein the molecular linker maintains the first and second functional groups sufficiently spaced from one another such that the functional groups do not substantially interact in an absence of the target biomolecule. In the presence of the target biomolecule the functional groups interact (with each other, with the target biomolecule, or both), and in some examples a detectable signal is produced. In some examples, the functional groups can detect or modify a target molecule. Also provided are methods of using the probes, for example to detect or modify a target molecule.
