Abstract: Safety attachment device for an actuator (1) attached at its ends respectively to a first and a second part (2, 3) which are connected to one another also by means of a reaction bar (4) which is located on the top of the actuator (1), said device comprises an upper part (5, 5a, 5b) immobilized on the reaction bar (4) and side arms (6, 7) which clasp the sides (1c, 1d) of the actuator (1), both having windows (8, 9) through which respective pins (10, 11) joined to these sides (1c, 1d) pass, the pin (10, 11) thus being situated without making contact with the edges of the window when the actuator is attached to the parts (2, 3), and each window (8, 9) being of a horizontal extension such that its side edges do not touch the pin (10, 11) which passes through said window (8, 9) when the actuator (1) is disconnected from any of the parts (2, 3).
Abstract: A device (10) for repelling selected aquatic creatures, such as sharks. The device consists of an electromagnetic field generator (21, 30) for generating an electromagnetic field (50) that repels sharks and is supported by a buoyant device (20). This provides a shark-free region about the device (10). Multiple devices can be connected together to form an array of repelling devices, thereby extending the shark-free region.
Abstract: A dimmer circuit arrangement is disclosed including a second control circuit (40) for controlling the operation of a triac (50) for delivering current to a load (60), and a first control circuit (10) for controlling the operation of an IGBT power semiconductor switch (20) for controlling the rate of rise of load voltage. The first control circuit also controls the operation of the second control circuit.
Abstract: Significantly low circulating S-adenosylmethionine levels were found to be diagnostic for human Pneumocystis carinii infection, and rise in levels towards normal correlated with successful treatment. Diagnosis of P. carinii injection and monitoring of progress of treatment based thereon are described.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing organic contaminants from an aqueous phase in which the contaminant is solubilized. In the method the aqueous phase is passed through a fluid-pervious filtration media which has been infused with an absorbtion composition comprising a homogeneous thermal reaction product of an oil component selected from the group consisting of glycerides, fatty acids, alkenes, and alkynes, and a methacrylate or acrylate polymer component. The absorbtion composition is cured in situ at the filter. The contaminant is immobilized at the media, and the purified filtrate having passed through the filtration media is collected as the product. The media comprises a central core which is surrounded and wrapped by a plurality of overlying sheets of further fluid pervious media, the overlying sheets creating void spaces between sheets for trapping of at least some of the separated contaminants.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of a polypeptide (CD27L) for diagnosis of epithelial-related cancers, in particular kidney cancer e.g. renal cell cancer and colorectal cancer, e.g. colon cancers, as well as in methods of treatment of such cancers.
Abstract: The invention relates to a DNA molecule from maize which codes for a protein with TGase activity and to a gene expression vector comprising said DNA molecule. The invention also relates to the use of the aforementioned DNA molecule or vector in order to produce transformed cells capable of expressing recombinant proteins with TGase activity and to introduce the sequence encoding for a protein with TGase activity into plant cells. In addition, the invention relates to the resulting transgenic plants and cells of microorganisms. Furthermore, the proteins with TGase activity expressed from the above-mentioned DNA sequences can be used, for example, in food manipulation, processing and transformation.

Abstract: The invention is a new method to analyze nucleic acid-protein binding data in a systematic or statistical manner in order to determine the DNA binding regions for proteins which bind to DNA and are usually involved in the regulation of the expression of genes, and may enhance, promote or repress the expression of the gene.
Abstract: The invention relates to surfactant-free reagent spheres useful for biological tests particularly those involving antigen/antibody reactions.
