  • Patent number: 7194419
Abstract: A network-based contact management system provides various features for assisting users in locating, and sharing information with, other users. The system provides a web-based user interface through which each may user create a personal data record, establish contact relationships with other users, and specify permissions for allowing such other users to view the user's own personal data. Users can preferably view the personal data records of their respective contacts via personal address books in accordance with the permissions granted by such contacts. A search feature enables each user to search for contacts of that user's own contacts to locate other users of interest. A crossing paths notification feature notifies users when their travel plans coincide with those of their contacts.

  • Patent number: 7192407
Abstract: A motion controlling hinge for an orthopedic brace is provided. The hinge includes an actuator secured to one arm, and at least one spring member. As the arm with the actuator pivots in a first direction, at a predetermined flexion angle the actuator applies a force to the spring member, causing the spring member to flex. The spring member exerts a force on the actuator tending to bias the actuator away from the spring member, and tending to bias the arm in a second direction opposite the first direction. In a preferred embodiment, the spring member comprises a plurality of flat bar leaf springs. A movable fulcrum enables adjustment of a force exerted by the spring member on the actuator. A variety of differently sized adapters are securable to the actuator. The size of the adapter determines the flexion angle at which the spring member first exerts force on the actuator.

  • Patent number: 7192774
Abstract: An objective of the present invention is to provide promoters having seed-specific promoter activity, and methods of expressing foreign proteins in seeds. The present inventors isolated the promoters of a number of genes that are expressed in rice seeds, constructed binary vectors in which each promoter is inserted upstream of the GUS reporter gene, and transformed rice using the Agrobacterium method. In particular a seed-specific promoter from the rice glutelin GluB-1 gene is disclosed. GUS expression level was used as an index to examine the site of expression, the expression pattern during seed maturation, and the level of expression in seeds for each promoter. Promoters with activity specific to a particular site in seeds, and with higher activity than constitutive promoters and known seed-specific promoters were discovered.

  • Patent number: 7193285
Abstract: An array of conductive lines for MRAM circuits wherein at least one set of mutually parallel conductive traces is tilted with respect to being perpendicular with a corresponding set of mutually parallel conductive traces wherein individual conductive traces within the sets intersect adjacent individual MRAM cells and wherein the tilting of the at least one set of conductive traces acts to induce both a vertical and horizontal component of a magnetic field such that the net vector addition of magnetic fields induced by the sets of conductive traces is greater than the untilted or perpendicular configuration so as to induce a greater net magnetic field to effect more reliable switching of the underlying MRAM cells. The tilted array also enables reducing the current supplied by the conductive traces while maintaining a comparable net magnetic field to the untilted configuration.

  • Patent number: 7194380
Abstract: Embodiments of a computer-implemented method of calculating estimates of a joint posterior probability of class membership given combinations of attribute values of a pair of attributes are disclosed. The calculating is performed on the basis of data representing a training set of a plurality of instances defined by attribute values for a plurality of attributes together with a class membership outcome. Embodiments of the method comprise calculating first and second estimates of a posterior probability of class membership given attribute values of a first and second attribute of the pair, respectively, and binning the first and second estimates into a respective plurality of first and second probability range bins. Instances of the training set are mapped to combinations of one of each of the first and second pluralities of probability range bins, and on the basis of the mapping, calculating estimates of a joint posterior probability of class membership.
