  • Patent number: 5856224
Abstract: A method of fabricating split-gate slash memory can define source and drain regions by using a self-alignment process. Thus, the uniformity of the split-gate flash memory performance is better controlled. This method comprises a floating gate oxide layer, a first polysilicon layer and a mask layer formed sequentially over a first type substrate. The mask layer and the first polysilicon layer are patterned to form a floating gate. A photoresist layer is coated over the substrate and then a pattern is defined on the photoresist layer to expose portion of the substrate. Second type ions are implanted into the exposed substrate to form a drain region. Then, the photoresist layer is removed. An insulating layer is formed over the substrate and then is etched back to form spacers on one side of the floating gate. The second type ions are implanted into the substrate to form a source region. The spacers and the mask layer are removed.

  • Patent number: 5857201
Abstract: A FormLogic (FL) client/server system and method to access existing enterprise data sources on an occasional basis. The system includes a FL builder program to generate a communications agent that encapsulates a communication session. The session includes one or more related tasks. The system also includes a FL server which is connected to one or more enterprise data sources. The FL server provides the ability to link hardware devices running a FL engine as a client to access existing enterprise data sources on an occasional basis. It is optimized to communicate by exchanging a minimum amount of data, since the wireless transports do not move large amounts of data quickly and data is expensive to move. Each session encompasses connecting the remote host, performing a specific task or set of tasks, then disconnecting from the host. Because the connection times must be short, the client and server need to be able to perform the required tasks without user intervention.

  • Patent number: 5855190
Abstract: A valve-actuating variable cam for a reciprocating machine is disclosed. The cam comprises a camshaft journalled for rotation by said machine and driven in timed relationship with said machine, a first cam fixed upon said camshaft and rotatable with the camshaft, and a second cam fixed for rotation with the camshaft and moveable relative to the first said cam in a direction radial to the axis of rotation of the camshaft. A shift rod is slidably mounted within the cam shaft, the shift rod having a drive surface thereon driving a key element. The key element is at least partially positioned within and engages at least the second cam. The shift rod is moveable between a first position in which the first cam engages a valve or similar element, and second position in which the key pushes the second cam radially outwardly and the valve engages the second cam.

  • Patent number: 5855516
Abstract: A method and system for assuring the smooth, rapid execution and automatic control of a tournament. Participants' names are announced, and the participants notified to take their turn in the tournament by means of one or more electronic displays accessible to a number of potential participants. Personal identity data corresponding to the participants are entered, up to a given number of participants, based on the particular tournament variant via a data reading unit linked to each display. The groups of participants are arranged in order using a random access technique. Upon completion of each match, the winner is announced, and the groups of participants are organized for succeeding rounds. The tournament continues until completion, when the results are analyzed by the system and displayed.

  • Patent number: 5855591
Abstract: An anchoring system includes a simply-structured suture-like device which permits a fluid tube or similar medical article to be easily attached to the patient without the use of needles and without suturing anything to the patient. The anchoring device desirably includes two threads or filaments and two corresponding receptacles. The filaments include protuberances which cooperate with apertures of the receptacles to permit easy insertion of the distal ends of the filaments into the receptacles, but inhibit retraction of the filament distal ends from the receptacles. A health care provider simply wraps the filament around the fluid tube or threads the filament through a suture hole in the medical article, and then threads the distal end of the filament through the receptacle aperture until the filament holds the medical article tightly against an anchor pad of the anchoring system. The anchor pad in turn includes an adhesive bottom surface which can be attached to the patient's skin.

The valve preferably includes a bacteria filter secured in the cavity for preventing exposure of the suction control port to bacteria entering the inlet port. A splash guard extends along the cavity for preventing liquid from contacting the bacteria filter or from reaching the suction control port. A suction control port guard is selectively movable to prevent accidental closure of the suction control port.

Abstract: Methods and compounds for selective cleavage of nucleic acid are described. The compounds generally contain three functionalities: (1) an oligonucleoside portion which is substantially complementary to at least a portion of the target nucleic acid, thereby providing selectivity to the compound; (2) a non-complementary portion which replaces one of the otherwise-complementary nucleoside bases in the oligonucleoside and which serves to place the target nucleic acid strand into a conformation that favors the cleavage of a phosphodiester linkage opposite the non-complementary portion; and (3) a cleavage moiety which possesses one or more and preferably two or more of the features of (a) proton donation, (b) proton acceptance, (c) hydrogen bonding, (d) charge neutralization and (e) Lewis acidity. These compounds may be used for the study and treatment of diseases involving foreign genetic materials or alterations to or inappropriate expression of genomic DNA.

  • Patent number: 5854796
Abstract: A failure analysis memory for storing failure information representative of a test result of a semiconductor memory under test is divided into a plurality of blocks with compacted addresses, and a compaction memory having areas corresponding respectively to the blocks of the failure analysis memory is prepared. Data indicative of a failure cell in any one of the blocks of the failure analysis memory is written in an area of the compaction memory which corresponds to the any one of the blocks. Minimum and maximum addresses of addresses at which failure cells are present in the blocks are determined, and failure data is read from the failure analysis memory in a range between the minimum and maximum addresses of each of the blocks, which correspond to the areas of the compaction memory which store the data indicative of a failure cell.
