  • Patent number: 5841512
Abstract: The invention provides improved methods for editing film into motion pictures. Visual images are transferred from developed motion picture film to a high definition video storage medium, which is a storage medium adapted to store images and to display images in conjunction with display equipment having a scan density substantially greater than that of an NTSC compatible video storage medium and associated display equipment. The visual images are also transferred, either from the motion picture film or the high definition video storage medium to a digital data storage format adapted for use with digital nonlinear motion picture editing equipment. After the visual images have been transferred to the high definition video storage medium, the digital nonlinear motion picture editing equipment is used to generate an edit decision list, to which the motion picture film is then conformed.

  • Patent number: 5839303
Abstract: A device and method are provided for securing and selectively locking a portable item to a supporting surface. A generally flat attachment plate is connected to a generally flat base plate containing a lock barrel and a lock cylinder. The attachment plate fastens to a device being secured. A securing stud fastens to the underside of the supporting surface such that the shaft of the securing stud protrudes through a hole in the support surface and base plate to extend into threaded engagement with the lock cylinder barrel. The securing stud has a thin flat head which when adhesively attached to the supporting surface prevents the securing stud from being rotated or removed.

  • Patent number: 5841578
Abstract: Optical systems for endoscopes, borescopes, dental scopes, and the like which are characterized by having three groups of lenses of positive optical power and an external entrance pupil. Typically, all three groups of lenses are displaced from the pupil and focal planes. As a consequence, the displaced groups take part in the image transfer as well as in the pupil transfer. The optical power requirements can thus be shifted from one group to another, distributing as well as reducing the overall power requirement. Moreover, the aberration correction can also be shared between these groups. The first group, which conventionally has the highest optical power, and consequently a large amount of aberrations to be corrected, can in this way transfer some of the optical aberration correction to the other groups. The sharing of the optical functions and aberration correction results in a fully integrated optical system.

  • Patent number: 5840222
Abstract: A method for injection-molding workpieces in a mold of an injection-molding machine is disclosed. The method provides a means of conducting test cycles during the initial setup of the machine at reduced speed. In a multi-cavity mold all of the workpieces are demolded by means of a handling system having a workpiece carrier system receiving and holding all workpieces in a regular pattern. The workpieces are inspected on the workpiece carrier system for determining whether all of the cavities have been filled with plastic material and whether the workpieces are of a predetermined quality. If this is not the case, the necessary adjustments are made and the test cycle is repeated. If all of the workpieces are of a predetermined quality, the machine is switched to automatic production at high nominal speed.

  • Patent number: 5841783
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a repair address analysis system for a semiconductor test which can effect repair of a memory device from fails in a short time even when a fail is produced on a repair line. Fail count means effects counting of fail bits for an address value of a memory device and counting of fail bits of an address value of a repair line simultaneously with each other, and information of the repair line is replaced into the counted address.

  • Patent number: 5842024
Abstract: A method of reducing the time needed for installing a combination of software programs onto a hard disk drive by creating modules for each software program and associating a file with each software program that records all changes made to files and directories by the installation process of that software program. When downloading combinations of these modules onto a hard disk drive, a software installation program is run which implements the changes to files and directories necessitated by each of the modules thereby resulting in a disk operating system that is properly configured for the operation of the combination of software programs.

  • Patent number: 5837378
Abstract: A process for reducing stress during processing of semiconductor wafers comprising the steps of depositing a masking stack on a top and a bottom surface of the wafer and then removing at least a portion of the masking stack on the bottom surface prior to forming isolation regions on the top surface of the semiconductor wafer. In one embodiment, silicon nitride is formed on the top and the bottom surface of a silicon wafer. The silicon nitride is then patterned and etched on the top surface of the wafer to expose regions of the underlying silicon for field oxide formation. Prior to the field oxidation formation on the top side of the wafer, the silicon nitride layer on the bottom side of the wafer is removed so that a layer of silicon dioxide is formed on the bottom surface of the wafer during field oxidation formation.

  • Patent number: 5836857
Abstract: An apparatus and a method apply lateral force to the joints of a leg of a person. The apparatus includes a generally inelastic interconnecting medium having a first end and a second end. A cuff is attached to the first end of the interconnecting medium. The cuff is sized to receive a portion of a foot of the leg to which the lateral force is to be applied. An engager is connected at the second end of the interconnecting medium to attach the interconnecting medium to a substantially stationary object. When the person pulls on the foot in the cuff in a direction away from the substantially stationary object, the foot remains substantially in one location, and a bending moment or a lateral force is applied to the joints of the leg to provide therapeutic relief to the leg joints without requiring the assistance of another person.
