  • Patent number: 5123216
Abstract: Grinding with known grinders such as corner, belt or vibratory grinders poses insoluble problems, such as the grinding of inner edges set at an angle to each other for example in retainer strips of window and door glasses. A portable grinder has thus been developed in which the grinding or sanding tool (3, 20, 30) effects an oscillatory movement which, unlike in the state of the art, is effected around a fixed axis of the apparatus (29) with a minimum pivoting angle, preferably between 0.5.degree. and with a high pivoting frequency of between ten thousand and twenty five thousand vibrations per minute. This different oscillation movement makes it possible to provide the grinding or sending tool with almost any shape. Furthermore, grinding does not inevitably have to be made with the transverse surface of the tool (3), in particular the perpendicular surface, in relation to the diametrical axis (29) but it is also possible to use a surface which is almost parallel to the first or is even arched.

  • Patent number: 5117126
Abstract: A stacked OPO is disclosed wherein two or more optically nonlinear media, such as crystals, are coaxilly disposed in a single resonator. Incident radiation is coupled into the resonator, and causes parametric oscillations of the two crystals. The two crystals are independently tuned, such as by angular orientation, to produce distinct components of secondary radiation. A first one of the crystals is disposed nearer to the source of incident radiation, and a second one of the crystals is disposed nearer to the output coupler of the resonator. This causes the first crystal to experience a greater effective gain. Furthermore, the secondary radiation from the first crystal will tend to dominate and "seed" the secondary radiation from the second crystal, when their bandwidths are narrowly separated.

  • Patent number: 5107922
Abstract: An offset strip fin for use in compact automotive heat exchangers is disclosed. The offset strip fin has multiple transverse rows of corrugations extending in the axial direction wherein the corrugations in adjacent rows overlap in order that the oil boundary layer is continually re-started. The fin dimensions have been optimized in order to achieve superior ratio of heat transfer to pressure drop along the axial direction. In one aspect, an compact concentric tube heat exchanger has an offset strip fin located in an annular fluid flow passageway located between a pair of concentric tubes. The preferred range of lanced lengths is determined to be between 0.035" to 0.075" for periodically developed flow. Maintaining the lanced length in the regime of periodically developed flow is advantageous in that it gives a higher heat transfer coefficient than is achievable with fully developed flow.
