  • Patent number: 5289704
Abstract: An improved cable lock having a lock housing and a flexible shackle has a longitudinally elongated latch housing with a cylindrical side surface in which is formed a latch reception slot, receiving an L-shaped latch body. The latch body fits flush with the housing surface and is released by rocking one of its arms. A resilient ring is carried on the axis of the lock housing and has its circumferential surface exposed along the cylindrical side of the lock housing. A mechanism selectively compresses and decompresses the ring, respectively causing the ring to expand or retract radially for friction locking into a storage tube. A clamp is provided for mounting the storage tube into the seat post of a cycle, and a guide tube assists passage around the bend.

  • Patent number: 5284487
Abstract: A compression forceps with four bar linkage is formed of a stationary handle and jaw connected by a shank area; a moveable jaw; a moveable handle having the approximate shape of a bell crank with major and minor arms; and a connecting link member having first and second opposite ends. The four links are joined at pivots, with a first pivot connecting the major and minor arms of the moveable handle to the rear end of the shank area of the stationary handle and jaw. A second pivot connects the free end of the minor arm to a rear end of the moveable jaw. A third pivot connects a first end of the link to the front end of the shank area of the stationary handle and jaw. A fourth pivot connects the second end of the link to a middle area of the moveable jaw. The compound linkage thus formed operates the jaws with an increase of the relative inside angle between the jaws as the jaws close.

  • Patent number: 5235936
Abstract: A passive ferrocene injection system provides a container that defines an internal reservoir holding a quantity of solid phase ferrocene. A means is provided for maintaining an elevated reservoir temperature sufficient to produce a vapor of ferrocene. The reservoir is connected to the air inlet system of a combustion device in such a manner that the ferrocene vapor is metered into the air inlet stream. One portion of this connection is a flow orifice metering ferrocene vapor from the reservoir at least by diffusion, and more normally, by diffusive and convective transport mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 5228174
Abstract: A brush compactor useable in combination with an elongated rope has a plate like body with a pressure application area permitting the user to push on it with his foot while tightening the rope. An attachment point on the plate holds one end of the rope, while a wedged locking member selectively releases and positively locks a second end of the rope, according to the direction of rope movement through the locking member.

  • Patent number: 5190660
Abstract: Metal ions are removed from solution by complexing with an immobilized polyethyleneimine, formed by first bonding a silane-propyl bridge to a substrate particle of silica or silicate, larger than 200 mesh. Then, polyethyleneimine is covalently bonded by a nitrogen to the bridge. Due to the spacing established by the bridge between the polyethyleneimine and substrate, the polyethyleneimine maintains high ion complexation capacity.

  • Patent number: 5187878
Abstract: An annular gauge for determining the depth of a fishing lure on a fishing line angularly offset from vertical provides a chart displaying depth indicia. Each indicia accurately corresponds to a predetermined angular offset of the line. The indicia itself is positioned on the annular chart at an angularly offset location corresponding to the angle for which the indicia is accurate. As a result, when the gauge is properly aligned on the fishing rod, the approximately proper depth indicia is displayed at the top of the chart when the fishing rod is rotated by the offset angle.

  • Patent number: 5171597
Abstract: A new use for glutamine and glutathione is in a method of preserving a beverage. Preservation is achieved by mixing with the beverage an effective amount of glutathione and glutamine, sufficient to inhibit the growth of micro-organisms in the beverage. This method is especially applicable to beer, but also is useful with other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. A preferred, approximate maximum concentration of the effective agents, as applied to beer, is approximately 50 mg glutathione and 200 mg glutamine per 12 ounces of beer.

  • Patent number: 5120485
Abstract: A prefinished window unit is provided of the type having a sash member with central glazing area, wherein one side of the sash member is designated as the exterior face and the opposite side is designated as the interior face, the central glazing area is bounded by an inner perimetric face, and the sash member is bounded by an outer perimetric face. Each rail of the sash member is formed as a completely prefinished, molded component, requiring no further processing except assembly. The sash members each are integral components having a cellulosic core; an outer coating of synthetic plastic material substantially covering the core from external exposure; and a metal cladding substantially entirely covering the exterior face of the sash member to protect the synthetic coating from ultraviolet degradation. The sash members include slots that receive the glazing strip and weather strip, the slots being defined at least partially by a channel-shaped contour of the metal cladding.

  • Patent number: 5117967
Abstract: A free-standing cleaner (10) for conveyor belts (60) constitutes a tank (12) for holding fluid and having a removeable pad (22) attached across its bottom surface (14). Nozzles (20) in the bottom surface deliver the cleaning fluid to the pad (22). One longitudinal end (18) of the tank depends from the majority of the bottom surface (14) and hooks over the upstream end of the conveyor for anchoring the tank (12) against movement with the conveyor belt (60). Tandem tanks may be joined to the downstream end of the first tank for applying multiple cleaning fluids to the belt (60).

  • Patent number: 5102640
Abstract: Dipicolylamine (DPA) is chemically bound to the surface of a silicate, forming a solid phase particle without substantially decreasing the affinity constant of the DPA for certain ions. Then, the solid phase particle is contacted with the solution, thereby binding an ion to the particle. Subsequently the ion can be stripped from the ligand by treatment with a complexing agent or acid.

  • Patent number: 5080534
Abstract: A solid material, such as sand, mineral tailings, aggregate, or sludge is selected and treated to wet the surface of the material. A low moisture content foam is generated by passing a gas through a mixture of water and a surfactant, wherein the foam has a foam weight in the range from 15-50 gm/l. The solid material then is mixed with a quantity of the foam from 2-80% by resulting volume, sufficient to create of a foam-based slurry product having plug flow characteristics when pumped through a pipeline. The mixing can be accomplished by batch process or continuous flow processes. The slurry product is pumped through a pipeline and is regenerated as required within the pipeline by injecting additional foam into the slurry product while, substantially at the same time, mixing the slurry product with the additional foam by passing it over a mixing foil, which is especially effective in a bend of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4970883
Abstract: A cylindrical combination lock body is associated with a flexible shackle, both ends of which are connected to a single end of the lock body so that the body and shackle are fitted within an approximately constant diameter. A cylindrical sleeve is sized to telescope over the shackle and receive the lock body. The sleeve has an annular groove on its interior face, which is positioned to mate with one or more detent balls in the cylindrical wall of the lock body. A plunger mechanism in the lock body can release the detent balls to permit insertion or removal of the body from the sleeve, and the plunger also releases the shackle when the combination is properly selected. The sleeve may be mounted in any sort of storage tube and enables the entire lock assembly to be stored in a secure and concealed manner.
