  • Patent number: 4419303
Abstract: Substantially pure, free flowing, sodium amalgam particles of predetermined composition and controlled particle size are prepared for use as vaporizable fill for high pressure discharge lamp devices, whereby accurately measurable quantities of the sodium amalgam may be introduced into the lamp devices. A process for producing the substantially pure amalgam particles of accurately controlled size includes heating a mixture of sodium and mercury to form a melt, passing the melt through a vibrating discharge nozzle and subjecting the droplets so formed to an inert cooling fluid maintained at a temperature below the solidification point of the amalgam. An apparatus for producing the amalgam particles comprises a vessel to contain an alkali metal amalgam melt, a virbrating discharge nozzle adatped to form the melt into uniformly sized droplets, and a column of inert cooling fluid maintained at a low temperature at which the melt droplets are solidified.

  • Patent number: 4388644
Abstract: A system for monitoring the operation of a multichannel receiver includes a channel monitor coupled to the sync separator of the receiver for collecting and transmitting channel information to a central collector station. The collector station selectively responds to one of a plurality of channel monitors to record, in sequential order, channel information. Each of the channel monitors is similar and includes a synchronizing pulse generator triggered by the vertical synchronizing pulse from a receiver to generate a match recognize pulse when a frequency coupled to the receiver from the monitor and the channel frequency have a preestablished relationship. To generate the match recognize pulse a counter provides signals to a tuning matrix that controls a frequency synthesizer or plurality of oscillators for generating the frequency coupled to the receiver for the match evaluation. Also, the counter activates a data encoder that provides channel information to the collector station.

  • Patent number: 4362270
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a system for providing central control for appliances connected to the electrical power distribution network of a building. In one embodiment the systems may be used for conserving energy used by temperature regulating units, such as space heaters and air conditioning units, by overriding local thermostatic control therefor, to prevent operation of the units during preselected time periods. The system includes a transmitter for transmitting control pulses over the electrical power distribution network of the building. Receivers, connected to the local thermostatic controls, detect the pulses and shut off the electrical power provided to the thermostatic controls responsive to the detected pulses to thereby prevent operation of the associated temperature regulating units. In one embodiment the control pulse transmitter operates responsively to signals transmitted over a coaxial cable such as employed in cable television systems.

  • Patent number: 4324169
Abstract: A battletank having a turret with especially heavy armor for containing the weapons system and a crew whereby the minimum possible dimensions of the armor and sufficient space for the crew are achieved, the power supply installations, the electrical and electronic assemblies and the ammunition being located in spaces outside of and behind the crew's space and separated from the latter by protective bulkheads. The ammunition, in order to avoid endangering the crew, is arranged in the ammunition space such that the warheads take effect in a direction opposite to that of the crew's space. In addition, the gun sight and observation devices can be arranged outside of the crew's space. The spaces outside of the crew's space may be accessible from the outside individually through access doors and the weapons system can be retractable for loading into a loading position in which the breech of the weapon is approximately at the same height as a connecting opening between the crew's space and the ammunition space.
