  • Patent number: 4698470
Abstract: The kinetic energy generated by the rapidly moving contact and coupled operating mechanism of a tripped circuit breaker or similar apparatus is dissipated by a compressible shock-absorbing assembly comprising a loose stack of freely-movable magnetized metal plates which is mounted in laterally-extending position on a stationary upstanding part of the breaker and is struck by a lever fastened to the main operating shaft of the breaker operating mechanism. The metal plates are freely movable toward and away from one another and are so magnetized that adjacent plates repel one another. The plates are accordingly normally spaced from each other and produce a series of sequentially-occurring impacts and collisions between the plates and the advancing striker lever when the breaker is tripped.

  • Patent number: 4686337
Abstract: A double-acting chemical operator drive assembly having a pair of pistons that are secured to the ends of a single piston rod and cooperate with a pair of power cylinders provide a positive drive for opening and closing the separable contacts of a circuit interrupter when the pistons are sequentially actuated by high-pressure gas generated by chemical propellant charges. The power cylinders are spaced apart and aligned with one another and the piston rod extends through open ends of the power cylinders. This eliminates the need for shaft seals and simplifies the manufacture and maintenance of the drive assembly. The operator drive assembly is coupled to the operating mechanism of the circuit interrupter by a yoke that is secured to an exposed medial part of the piston rod and then to a tie bar by a pair of drive rods.

  • Patent number: 4658504
Abstract: An electrical boot for the bus bar joints of electrical metal-clad switchgear is taught. The boot is formed by taking a piece of heat shrinkable material, disposing it over a joint or similar construction, heating and shrinking the material so that it shrinks to the shape of the joint or construction in question while at the same time, providing on two opened edges thereof a clamped chill bar which does not allow those portions to cohere to each other so that the boot may be removed after the formation process and easily disposed upon a bus bar joint located within the tight confines of a metal-clad switchgear cabinet. The process may be utilized to form metal-clad switchgear having bus bars with a heat-shrunk insulating boot on the joints thereof. Furthermore during the production process, a bolt envelope simulating template or jig may be utilized to fill out the area on the finalized boot which roughly corresponds to the outer dimensions of the bolt and nut arrangement.
