Abstract: In a line pressure control device of an automatic transmission for vehicle a circuit is provided for generating a target line pressure signal corresponding an actually measured load signal obtained from an engine load sensor. A line pressure sensor generates an actually measured line pressure signal corresponding to the line pressure. A converter converts the target line pressure signal and the actually measured line pressure signal into upper limit line pressure signals and lower limit line pressure signals which are set given amounts above and below the target signal and the actually measured signal respectively. A decision circuit compares the upper and lower limit line pressure signals drives and properly driving and controls the hydraulic pressure adjusting valve in accordance with the result of the comparison.
Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring the build-up of ice on engine and plant parts encompasses a monitoring surface area and a reference surface area located on a part of such engine. There is provided a first means which heats the reference surface area to a temperature above the freezing point. A second means illuminates the reference surface area as well as the monitoring surface area. The light reflected from both these areas is led to a light receiver which emits signals which are applied to a fourth means. This fourth means determines the difference between the output signals of the light receiver and generates accordingly a control signal. This apparatus allows a safe detection of ice build-up independent from a soiling of the monitoring and/or reference surface areas.
Abstract: This invention is directed to a high speed cold adhesive curing process and apparatus therefor, useful in the assembly and fastening together of fibrous surfaces such as the surfaces of corrugated Kraft paper cardboard boxes. The invention is directed to a process for adhering two fibrous surfaces together by means of a liquid cold cure adhesive comprising: (a) spraying liquid cold cure adhesive on the interface surface of one of the fibrous surfaces in a thin discrete particle pattern; and (b) pressing the two fibrous surfaces together under high pressure sufficient to cause the solvent carrier in the cold cure adhesive to disperse into the interstices of the fibres of the two surfaces, thereby enabling the cold cure adhesive particles to rapidly secure the two surfaces together.
Abstract: An exhaust bypass valve actuating device is constructed and controlled such that the exhaust bypass valve opens the exhaust bypass passage so as not to apply the exhaust gas to the turbine of the turbosupercharger when the engine is in such a low load operating condition that the turbosupercharger can hardly perform supercharging and when the supercharge pressure in the intake passageway is above a predetermined value and such that the bypass valve closes the bypass passage so as to apply the exhaust gas to the turbine when the engine is in such medium and high load operating conditions that the turbosupercharger can perform supercharging.
Abstract: A navigation instrument for use with a roadway vehicle to calculate and display the average speed of the vehicle and the deviations of the travelling distance and time of the vehicle from scheduled ones in accordance with the travelling distance and time and a scheduled vehicle average speed. The calculated results are not displayed and instead a zero-flashing or blanking indication is made to prevent the driver from having any unreliable information during the initial running operation of the vehicle.
Abstract: The digital display device of a vehicle is provided with a control facility for controlling other vehicle mounted electric equipment such as a warning device, an auto-door lock mechanism, or the like. The control is effected by using a control signal intended for turning on a particular segment of an indicating portion of the digital display indicator.
Abstract: A cable car type vehicle arrester features a pair of trumpet bars which are interconnected by a link which either maintains the distance between the bars constant or reduces same upon one of the bars being deflected outboard of its home or rest position. This reduces the free swinging time of the vehicle between bars and increases the distance through which the bars subsequent to the initial deflection are deflectable by the vehicle. This accordingly increases the stroke of shock absorbers associated with the bars increasing the conversion of the kinetic energy of the vehicle. Casters can be provided to support the bars to allow longer lighter bars with less robust bearing and structural members. The casters can be run on a corrugated surface to cam the bars vertically further increasing the kinetic energy conversion and endow a self-centering action on the arrester.
Abstract: A device for pumping fluid includes a main pump device and an auxiliary device integrally fixed thereto. The auxiliary device can function as a damper, cut-off valve, check valve and relief valve. The auxiliary device includes a first and second room separated by a diaphragm. The first room is connected to the fuel supply passage of the main pump device. One end of the outlet passage of the auxiliary device is connected to the first room by way of a valve mechanism consisting of a valve body and valve seat. The valve body is actuated by deforming of the diaphragm in response to the change of the fluid pressure within the first room. A relief passage is formed in the valve body to connect the first room with the second room. A relief valve such as a ball valve is placed in cooperation with the relief passage.

Abstract: An apparatus for suppressing noise radiating from an ignition system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The ignition system comprises a distributor which uses an electrically conductive ceramic or a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) thermistor as a material for a rotary electrode and/or stationary electrodes. At least a spark discharging portion of the rotary electrode and/or spark discharging portions of the stationary electrodes are formed from the electrically conductive ceramic which has a resistivity ranging from 10.sup.-6 to 10.sup.-2 ohm.multidot.cm or from the PTC thermistor. Cooperating with them are the high resistor spark plug and the high tension resistor cable. The high resistor spark plug herein disclosed uses an elongate monolithic resistor which has a length not shorter than 8 mm and preferrably has a length of 15 mm.
Abstract: In order to indicate the operation of a parking brake of an automobile, a switching means responsive to the operation of the parking brake is disposed between the ignition switch and a power side terminal of the stop lights for indicating the braking of the automobile. The operation of the parking brake is thus indicated to the drivers of automobiles coming from behind, thereby preventing a collision from behind or the other accidents.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a display unit for an automotive vehicle using passive display elements such as liquid crystals. The liquid crystal display unit according to the present invention comprises substantially a liquid crystal display device, a light source selectively turned on and off, and an illumination selection mechanism which selectively collects ambient light or uses the light source in order to illuminate the display. Thus the method of illumination can be adapted to the ambient light conditions.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling ignition system spark timing. Engine temperature is sensed and a basic value of spark advance is determined by calculation based upon the engine operating parameters excluding the engine temperature. This basic value of spark advance is corrected by a central processor in accordance with the sensed engine temperature.
Abstract: In a hinge device for tiltable windows, the base plate of the sash portion is provided with a pivot pin journalled in a guide member which is connected to the base plate of the frame portion in such a manner as to be mainly translatorily displaceable in relation thereto, whereby the pin during the initial opening movement of the window is moved downwards and outwards in relation to the frame portion. The sash portion of the hinge is also provided with a guide pin which by co-operation with guiding members on the frame portion co-ordinates the tilting movement of the sash portion about the pivot pin with the movement of displacement of the pin with a view to obtain a sash movement allowing outer covering elements to be arranged with an efficient overlapping relationship in the hinge area. By maximum displacement of the pivot pin the guide pin clears the guiding members so that the sash is free to tilt further in the opening direction while a stop prevents a rearward displacement of the guide member.
Abstract: For an automatic transmission having a line pressure control circuit producing a line pressure corresponding to engine load and an engine brake selecting circuit applying engine brake in response to car brake signal, an apparatus for controlling the line pressure is disclosed for raising the line pressure in response to engine brake instruction signal from the engine brake selecting circuit. The apparatus may include a circuit for reducing the line pressure to a minimum value necessary for torque transmission after a preset time from the aforesaid raising.
Abstract: An engine starting apparatus for an extremely cold climate has a regenerator which stores heat of exhaust gas during operation of the engine. The regenerator has sufficient heat capacity to maintain the stored heat for at least 10 hours after stopping the engine. Suction gas to start the engine can be heated sufficiently to facilitate starting of the engine. Temperature control device mixes fresh air with air from the regenerator to obtain suitable suction temperature.
Abstract: A steering mechanism for a use in a conveying and hoisting wheel vehicle having at least one steered vehicle wheel, comprises: a steering shaft; a first wheel rotatably driven by the steering shaft; a second wheel pivoting and steering the steered vehicle wheel and having a center axis of rotation extending on the equatorial plane of the steered vehicle wheel; torque transmitting means passed between the first and second wheels, the torque transmitting means having a travelling path having a meeting point at which the torque transmitting means is brought into tangential engagement with the second wheel and a parting point at which the torque transmitting means is brought out of engagement with the second wheel, the travelling path having a semi-circular turning portion at which the torque transmitting means is engaged with the circumferential section of the second wheel.

Abstract: An air conditioning system particularly mounted in a passenger compartment of an automotive vehicle according to the present invention can be fixed in the maximum heating operation mode to produce a maximum effect of the defrosting function by only pushing a push-button switch engaged with a mode selector for maximizing the air blowing rate of a ventilating fan and also engaged with a three-way vacuum switch for opening a vacuum power servomechanism to the air to fix an air mix door in the maximum heating position.
