  • Patent number: 4347825
Abstract: A fuel injection apparatus for an internal combustion engine has at least one fuel injection valve. An annular or ring-shaped electrode is mounted near the fuel injection valve to encircle the injected fuel. A high voltage generator produces an electric field between the electrode and the fuel injection valve as well as a surrounding wall which are both connected to the ground. Electrified fuel particles are finely atomized and prevented from attaching onto the surrounding wall to improve the operation, starting characteristic, and transient response of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4337507
Abstract: In a lighting fixture, a light source is partially surrounded by a reflector system mounted in a housing to direct light from the light source out through an aperture in the front of the housing. The reflector is cylindrically and parabolically shaped to provide a cut-off above a selected vertical angle and to provide a decreasing intensity with decreasing vertical angles from a maximum intensity to effect uniform distribution. A lens is provided in the aperture to achieve uniform distribution through a wide horizontal angle. The reflector system and the light source are pivotable within the housing about a fixed horizontal axis to adjust the vertical cut-off angle and the angle of the maximum intensity. A fixed reflector is mounted near the top of the aperture on the front wall of the housing to get more sideways distribution of the light when the light source is pivoted toward the back of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4336825
Abstract: A system for controlling the water level in a boiler, including a liquid level adjuster, conduits connecting the liquid level adjuster to the boiler through housings mounted on the boiler and membranes positioned between the boiler and the conduits to transmit fluid pressure from the boiler to the liquid level adjuster while preventing fluid communication between the boiler and the liquid level control system. Valved bypass ducts extend from the housings to the top of the boiler so that expansion of the water in the liquid level control system due to the firing of the boiler is accommodated by overflow into the top of the boiler rather than by rupture of the membranes. Graduated water columns are provided to permit calibration of the liquid level adjuster, and valves are included in the liquid level control system adjacent to the liquid level adjuster so that the liquid level adjuster may be isolated from the rest of the system and checked for proper operation at any time.
