  • Patent number: 4201503
Abstract: A tool for reconditioning or restoring the threads of externally threaded members, such as bolts, studs, and the like, includes, in one embodiment, a collet having a bore formed therethrough with a portion of the bore defining a guide surface, and a threading insert that includes thread cutting means. In order to recondition threads, the threading insert is selectively positioned along the longitudinal axis of the threaded member with the thread cutting means engaging the threads of the member. The collet is placed over the end of the member and positioned such that the threading insert is received within a socket formed in the collet thereby retaining the threading insert in place against the externally threaded member. Rotation of the tool relative to the threaded member causes the cutting means to recondition the threads. In one alternate embodiment, the cutting means are associated with the collet rather than with the threading insert.

  • Patent number: 4198054
Abstract: An automatic golf ball teeing apparatus comprised of a chamber placed beneath the ground. A hollow piston is mounted in the chamber for vertical movement between first and second positions. Mounted within the piston is a pair of vertically spaced apart members; each of the members are movable relative to the piston; mounted between the members is a first coil spring and mounted between the lower member and the lower end of the piston is a second coil spring. A sleeve is mounted around the piston and is movable relative thereto and extends above the piston when the piston is in a lowered position. The sleeve is connected to the lower member such that the sleeve and lower member move together relative to the piston. A stop element is located at the top of the chamber for engaging the sleeve as the piston moves towards the second position for stopping movement of the sleeve relative to the piston, the second coil spring urging the sleeve back to its initial position as the piston is moved to its first position.

  • Patent number: 4197273
Abstract: The growth of a solid obtained by cooling a liquid solution is observed and controlled by measuring the variation in volume of the solid-liquid system at the time of solidification. The method is applicable to the control of oriented crystallization from an initial crystal seed or epitaxial growth on a substrate having a suitable crystal orientation. The rate of crystallization can be controlled by means of a furnace provided with means for producing regulated thermal gradients, temperature-measuring means, a chamber filled with an inert liquid, an open-topped container filled with the liquid to be solidified and immersed in the inert liquid, the container being suspended from one arm of the beam of an electrobalance.

  • Patent number: 4196322
Abstract: A rear window washer wiper control comprising a first movable member and a second movable member, the movable members comprising a slide switch for a washer circuit and a slide switch for a wiper circuit. Both switches are incorporated in one case to energize a wiper motor by moving the second movable member to the right and also to push and move the second movable member accordingly when the first movable member is moved to the right, thereby working a washer motor and a wiper motor simultaneously.Once an operating piece of the first movable member is released, the first movable member is forced back to the original position thereof by virtue of a built-in spring for automatic resetting, thus resulting in the washer motor stopping. The wiper motor continues to work so long as the second movable member is not manually reset to the original state thereof.

  • Patent number: 4191134
Abstract: A fluid injection system and method for an internal combustion engine such as a spark-ignition or compression-ignition engine in which an injection nozzle injects a finely divided spray of fluid, such as water or a water solution, into the engine in response to a flow of atomizing air. The nozzle is connected to a fluid supply reservoir and to the outlet line of an air-injection pump that supplies pressurized air to the exhaust system of the engine. The air-injection pump provides the supply of atomizing air to the nozzle with the pressure of the air and therefore the fluid injection being responsive to both the engine speed and the exhaust gas pressure. The injected fluid advantageously functions as a cooling agent to suppress detonation and provide smoother engine operation and greater fuel efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4182651
Abstract: A nuclear reactor that burns hydrogen bomb material 6-lithium deuterotritide to helium in successive microexplosions which are ignited electrically and enclosed by this same molten material, and that permits the conversion of the reaction heat into useful electrical power. A specially-constructed high-current pulse machine is discharged via a thermally-preformed highly conducting path through a mass of the molten salt .sup.6 LiD.sub.1-x T.sub.x (0<x<1). In the resulting dense, hot plasma filament primary nucleons are formed by field-accelerated fusion collisions. These hot particles initiate suprathermal multistepped propagating fission-fusion avalanches that heat the plasma by their own released energy up to thermonuclear temperature. The plasma is confined inertially and magnetically. Neutrons escaping sideways are utilized to breed tritium in the surrounding liquid blanket material, for participation in the next pulse.
