  • Patent number: 6773210
Abstract: An apparatus and method for clamping an insert in a tool holder includes a recess and a clamp pin with a lever portion having a curved surface at each end thereof. The recess includes an angled wall for engaging one of the curved surfaces of the lever portion. A wedge portion is disposed within the recess and operatively coupled to a lock screw such that rotation of the lock screw causes movement of the wedge portion in a first direction. A biasing force is applied to the lever portion to cause the clamp pin to move in a second direction that is different than the first direction. The wedge portion includes one or more angled walls for engaging one of the curved surfaces of the lever portion. Movement of the wedge portion in the first direction causes the angled wall of the recess to act as a cam surface to cause the clamp pin to pivot about a pivot point, P, located along a central axis of the clamp pin.

  • Patent number: 6769844
Abstract: A cutting insert comprises a rake face, a plurality of flank faces including clearance faces having a positive clearance angle. A cutting edge is formed at an intersection between the rake faces and the flank face and a convex wiper cutting edge formed on the cutting edge. A method for forming the cutting insert comprises the steps of placing a powdered material into a die and pressing the powdered material in the die to achieve a form having a convex portion on the rake face and at least one substantially flat clearance face having a positive clearance angle. Next, the form is removed from the die and sintered.

  • Patent number: 6745709
Abstract: A ground engaging tip for a seed boot attachment for depositing a seed within a furrow. The tip including a conical shape member formed of three generally planar shape side surfaces wherein two of the side surfaces meet to form an inclined leading edge extending from a tip of the conical shape member; and at least one wear resistant insert. The insert is secured to the leading edge of the ground engaging tip and includes a generally elongated bar having a leading end, a trailing end and three connecting side surfaces, a first side, second side and third side. The first, second and third side surfaces form a bar having a generally triangular cross-section, wherein the leading end of the bar is angled.

  • Patent number: 6742969
Abstract: A milling cutting insert is disclosed having a polygonal body of wear-resistant material, wherein the body has a top surface and a groove having a central axis extending along the entire length of one side of the insert having a central axis, and wherein: the group groove is tapered such that the width of the groove increases continuously along the side of the insert. A face milling cutter having an axial location surface for advancement in a direction of feed is also disclosed utilizing such a cutting insert so that a corner of the cutting insert is furthest from the axial location surface and the wide end of the groove associated with the cutting edge facing the direction of feed is adjacent to that corner.
