Patent number: 6592503Abstract: A roll has a continuous tubular roll shell (11) of a composite material and axle journals (12) rotating together with the roll shell and joined to each end of the roll shell. The axle journals are supported on a supporting element (13) surrounding the axle journal (12) by at least two bearing elements (14, 15) located at a distance from each other in the axial direction (X—X) of the roll, which supporting element (13) for its part is supported on the machine frame structures (R). The first bearing element (14, 15) is supported on the supporting element (13) through a bending mechanism (20, 21), which is used for applying to the first bearing element (14, 15) a force affecting in a radial direction in order to deflect the first bearing element (14, 15) in relation to the central axis (X—X) of the unbent roll, whereby the axle journal (12) will bend in relation to a pivot point which is formed at the second bearing element (14, 15) and a bending moment is applied to the roll shell (11).Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2001Date of Patent: July 15, 2003Assignee: Metso Paper, Inc.Inventors: Juha Isometsä, Tuomo Kurkela, Jorma Snellman

Patent number: 6592497Abstract: A leg column extends between a user's legs, and a connected foot column extends front to back between the user's feet. Front and rear foot rods beneath the foot column bear against the soles of a user's feet. Cushioned front, rear and upper weight rods are connected to the leg and foot columns to bear against the foot above the user's toes, the user's feet above the heels and the lower legs at the shins, respectively. Barbell weights are removably connected to the weight rods. The relationships of the foot rods and weight rods are adjustable to suit a particular user. The leg barbell is completely free from connection to any fixed structure and, although secured to the user's legs and feet for a variety of exercises, is readily disengaged. The weight rods and foot rods may be connected with telescoping mounting members or perforated barstock to facilitate convenient adjustment.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2001Date of Patent: July 15, 2003Inventor: Jeffrey C. Patent number: 6578300Abstract: A two-dimensional figure display device supports an animal or figure silhouette with loose appendages, such as a dog's ears and tongue, on the exterior of a vehicle rear window. The image of the figure to be simulated is formed on a multi-layered element which is attached to a stiffening support. The support has frontwardly and upwardly extending clips which engage between the window and the window frame of the moving vehicle. Loose flaps of material on the multi-layered element are acted upon by the wind as the vehicle travels, simulating the movement of the depicted figure.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2001Date of Patent: June 17, 2003Assignee: Bette's Buddies, LLCInventors: Bette J. Patent number: 6578473Abstract: A supercalender has a top roll, a bottom roll, and a plurality of intermediate rolls. The intermediate rolls are mounted to support frames by pivot arms. The pivot radius defined by the arms is at least about 2½ times the diameter of the largest intermediate roll. Hydraulic load support cylinders are arranged between the intermediate roll bearings and anchor points which are spaced away from the intermediate rolls, to allow greater movement without mechanical interference between hydraulic load support cylinders. The greater length of the pivot arms combined with a greater stroke of the load support cylinders allows the supercalender to accommodate filled rolls which change diameter substantially over their life, as the surface of the rolls is repeatedly turned down to refurbish the roll surface. The calender may be based on an existing calender of the closed A-frame type.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2001Date of Patent: June 17, 2003Assignee: Metso Paper, Inc.Inventor: Richard M. Strebel

Patent number: 6574912Abstract: A plastic upper jaw is pivotably mounted by a steel pin to a plastic base. A spring urges the jaw to close upon the base. A trigger is pivotably mounted to the base. A catch restrains the upper jaw in a set position until the trigger is actuated. The base has two upwardly extending side walls. Each side wall has a cable opening adjacent the floor of the base. A cable tie is looped around a pipe or support member and extends through the opposed openings in the opposite side walls. The ends of the tie are connected to secure the rodent trap to the support member. Because the upper jaw provides a wide gripping area, allowing the trap to be safely set, the trap is readily moved into the set position while it is secured to the support member, even if in an overhead position.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2002Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: Bell Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Daniel C. Johnson

Patent number: 6575396Abstract: A web roll is wound (11) by passing the web onto a core (12) via a pressure nip (N) formed between a winding drum (10) and the roll (11), whereby the core (12) is supported by chucks (14) mounted on roll support arms (13). The pressing-nip force in the nip (N) formed between the roll (11) and the winding drum (10) is controlled using a position-feedback technique in which the movements of the roll support arms (13) are synchronized. Moreover, the support arms are moved is response to a control unit which uses a physical model of the winding process which predicts roll diameter at any time. When force sensors which detect an increase in pressure the arms can be advanced to promote even winding of the roll.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2001Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: Metso Paper, Inc.Inventor: Arto Leskinen

Patent number: 6527703Abstract: An internal catheter has a flexible plastic inner tube with an integrally formed protruding head with an axial channel. The internal catheter extends through an axial channel in an exterior catheter. With the internal catheter head withdrawn within the foam or spiral tip of the exterior catheter, the assembly is advanced into a sow cervix, and the internal catheter is then advanced through the tip of the catheter and remaining portion of the cervix and into the uterine body and possibly into a uterine horn. Semen or embryos are then introduced through the axial cavity. The tip of the exterior catheter may have a protective flap which is not penetrated until the inner tube is advanced therethrough. The internal catheter axial channel may have a constricted portion within the head, to engage a semen or embryo containing straw.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2001Date of Patent: March 4, 2003Assignee: Minitube of America, Inc.Inventor: Ludwig O. Patent number: 6526621Abstract: A positioning frame supports a rotating buff roll within a vacuum plenum at a desired location adjacent a moving web of material. The apparatus has a drive arm with a jackshaft and a support arm each pivoted off bases which may be clamped to a single cross machine direction shaft. The motor drive may also be positioned at a variety of orientations. Three parallel axes of adjustment are defined by the positioning frame granting the installer of the apparatus great latitude in positioning the buff assembly near the web to be cleaned. Two web cleaning apparatuses may be installed on opposite sides of an open span of web, or a first apparatus may be engaged against the web where it turns around a roll, and a second apparatus may be engaged against the web where it turns around a downstream roll.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2001Date of Patent: March 4, 2003Inventor: Wayne K. Patent number: 6521095Abstract: A bracket of graphite epoxy has a cylindrical portion which hingedly fits within a dovetail groove extending in the machine direction across the injection face of a papermaking headbox. The bracket has downstream portions defining a vane-receiving slot which receives a plastic sheet vane which is held by screws. The bracket is laid up of carbon fibers oriented so that the coefficient of thermal expansion matches the steel from which the headbox is manufactured. A two-part metal mold is used to define the underside and the bead portion of the bracket. A rubber gasket of Shore 70 material forms the center of the bead portion about which prepregs of graphite cloth are wrapped. A removable polytetrafluoroethylene insert defines the slot during molding. The assembly is placed under a vacuum bag and heated, causing the rubber gasket to expand and press the overlying graphite prepregs against the sides of the mold.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2002Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Assignee: Metso Paper, Inc.Inventor: James S.
