  • Patent number: 5067935
Abstract: An interaxle differential includes a central drive member that continuously connects an input shaft with a first output shaft, a clutch disk normally connecting the central drive member with a second output shaft, a rotational velocity responsive device operable from a deactivated position to an activated position for disengaging the clutch disk when the second output shaft overruns the first output shaft by a given value, a fail safe device for biasing the velocity responsive device toward its deactivated position, a first device for displacing the velocity responsive device toward the activated position, and an override device for selectively disengaging the clutch disk. In a second embodiment, the rear clutch disk is operable by the operator to disconnect the interaxle differential from the first output shaft, thereby to avoid the trapping of torque within the interaxle differential when the vehicle is maneuvered downhill in a turn.

  • Patent number: 5063071
Abstract: A method for centering an egg yolk during cooking of the egg is characterized by continuously rotating the egg in opposite directions about the longitudinal axis of the egg while the egg white solidifies. The egg is rotated in opposite directions for equal, relatively short intervals of time and at a relatively high speed. The rotation of the egg and gradual hardening of the egg white causes the egg yolk to migrate toward the enter of the egg resulting in a uniform layer of hardened egg white around the yolk of the cooked egg.

  • Patent number: 5057355
Abstract: With the composite plates for raised floors which are supported at their four corners and consist of a shell with open top and manufactured of tension-resistant material as well as a filling of pressure-resistant material, for instance anhydrite, when the plate is under stress there is a higher deflection at the plate border than in the middle of the plate, which is undesirable. In order to substantially equalize the bearing strength of composite plates of the above structural design in the border and the middle of the plate and to assure such plates against rupture at the border, a reinforcement which is practically plate-high is provided on the side wall of the shell, which is connected with the bottom plate of the shell. In addition or alternatively thereto the density and strength of the filling in the border area of the composite plate could also be increased at least twofold as compared with the rest of the area extending toward the middle of the plate.

  • Patent number: 5050618
Abstract: A method and apparatus for body joint rotation and measurement to isolate the joint under test is characterized by imposing movement on one member of the joint in a series of discrete increments, whereupon strain is measured at rest over a predetermined range of motion. Measurement of static force v. displacement at each of a plurality of steps in the angular range provides a quantitative test and evaluation of the elastic component of joint stiffness that resists the applied angular displacement. In this way, a static stress-strain loop is produced for each plane of movement. The static modulus of elasticity is derived by the slope of the stress-strain loop at the extremes of the range of motion.

  • Patent number: 5045090
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a device for reclaiming used foundry sands. In the process according to the invention the used sands are free from carbon-containing materials in a first step by means of a thermal treatment, inasmuch as they contain organic, carbon-containing material, and are subsequently mechanically cleaned batch-wise, for which purpose wear-resistant friction elements are moved through the sand charge as a function of the degree of oolitization of the respective sand batch at such a speed that the said grain of the batch is not destroyed. The device according to the invention consists of a cylindrical housing, in which rotatingly driven friction elements are provided, means for the batch-wise filling of the receptacle with used sand and means for discharge cleaned sand from the receptacle being provided.

  • Patent number: 5043635
Abstract: A power controller device used for dimming fluorescent lights includes a power supply circuit for producing a rectified AC power output, a start pulse generator for producing a start pulse in response to the power output, and a switch energized in response to the start pulse to deliver power to the load. A phase detector is connected with the power supply for generating a synchronized saw-tooth voltage waveform from the rectified power output and a power level control circuit is connected with the power supply for setting a voltage threshold level for controlling the power level supplied to the load. A run pulse generator is connected with the phase detector and the power level control circuit and produces run pulses when the saw-tooth voltage waveform from the phase detector exceeds the voltage threshold level. Timer and restart circuits are also provided. The timer circuit disables the power level control circuit for a pre-determined warm-up period wherein full power is delivered to the light for start-up.

  • Patent number: 5038593
Abstract: A method of producing an embossed structure on a workpiece includes applying texturizing components to a carrier surface of a pressing member and causing the texturizing components to form the embossed structure on the workpiece by pressing the pressing member and the workpiece against one another with the carrier surface facing the workpiece. The texturizing components may be connected to the pressing member by gluing, soldering or welding. An apparatus for performing this method includes two pressing belts which are being pressed against the workpiece passing therebetween, at least one of such belts being provided with the texturizing components at an outer surface thereof by an applicator apparatus arranged upstream of the location at which the belts come into contact with the workpiece.
