  • Patent number: 5031553
Abstract: With a method for completely automatic products of fitted sheets, elastic bands are sewn into or onto the cut edges (transverse edges), and the lengths of the elastic bands correspond approximately to the widths of the pieces of fabric. Then the widths of the pieces of fabric are measured and, dependent upon the results of this measurement, a piece of fabric is positioned in the middle or symmetrically in relation to the sewing needles of four sewing devices for formation of the corner seams, and the needles are provided in pairs facing each cut edge (transverse edge) of a piece of fabric at a corner processing station. Thereafter, the piece of fabric is hemmed in the corner of processing station parallel to its cut edges (transverse edges) and the hems of the piece of fabric are fixed.

  • Patent number: 5032286
Abstract: A method for removing color from the caustic effluent produced during kraft pulping and bleaching is characterized by heating the caustic effluent to a temperature and under a pressure sufficient to cause an alteration in the chemical structure of the lignin chromophores in the effluent. The cooked effluent is cooled and has its pressure reduce to near atmospheric pressure. An acid material, such as chlorine extract from the bleaching process, is added to the effluent to lower the pH of the effluent to between 2.6 and 3.8 to initiate flocculation of the altered chromophores of the effluent. During flocculation, the chromophores are continuously separated from the effluent in order to produce a relatively clean and color-free liquid which may be deposited in the sewer system of the pulp mill.

  • Patent number: 5009686
Abstract: There is disclosed an air cleaner of an engine for a vehicle. The air cleaner shaped by fitting upper and lower cases together includes an air intake unit inclined downwards so that a cylindrical part, provided at the top end of the air intake unit, for joining an air valve is disposed in a relatively lower position than the air intake unit. During a process of airtightly fitting the upper and lower cases, this arrangement restrains an engine overall height to a low value and prevents fluctuations in sectional area of the air intake unit which are due to reconstruction of the air intake unit to eliminate the difficulty caused particularly in a portion for joining the air valve to the air intake unit.

  • Patent number: 5007593
Abstract: The crushing tools are designed as rocker-like chisels having cutting edges. These chisels are pivotably supported at a frame such to pivot around a horizontal axis. These chisel-like crushing tools are operated by a piston-cylinder unit which extends almost vertically and is pivotably mounted to the box-shaped frame. Accordingly, the apparatus can be designed with a small width. Furthermore, the rocker-like design of the crushing tools allows due to the various lengths of the lever arms an increase of the forces without necessitating an exchanging of the piston-cylinder units. Furthermore, an adjusting of the apparatus to pillars of varying thickness is made merely by an exchanging of the crushing tools having dimensions of cutting edges which are selected in accordance with the prevailing distances between the reinforcing bars.

  • Patent number: 5001942
Abstract: Cable operating apparatus includes an automatic cable slack removing arrangement, characterized in that the cable tension-adjusting pawl is mounted both for pivotal movement between engaged and disengaged positions relative to the tension-adjusting ratchet, and for lateral movement between nested and extended positions relative to a pocket defined within the operating handle to which the pawl is connected. A cable-tension pawl spring biases the pawl toward the engaged and extended positions, so that when the pawl is engaged with the cable-tension ratchet, the cable tension will bias the ratchet in a direction to displace the pawl to its nested position in frictional engagement with the bottom wall of the pocket, whereby the pawl is more positively maintained in the ratchet-engaged condition.

  • Patent number: 4991371
Abstract: Tubular bars are connected to form room or open space framing by screw bolts with heads at their ends to connect the bars with intersecting members. Screw bolts with heads are supported in the end areas of the bars to be rotatable and axially movable. Their outward axial movement in each case is limited by a limiting boss in the end area of each bar. The limiting boss for the screw bolts with heads is formed by shaping of the end segments of the tubular bars in their hollow space. In tubular bars with tapered, truncated conical end segments, the head of the screw bolts can be welded against the inside wall of these end segments, when it is of correspondingly fitted truncated conical shape.
