  • Patent number: 4940428
Abstract: An electrical connector (2) is adapted at its forward end for insertion from the rear forwardly within a through opening (10) contained in a base member (1). A snap fastener retaining arrangement including a pair of resiliently outwardly biased hook members (6) on opposite sides of the connector is adapted to automatically engage corresponding shoulders on the base member when the connector has been inserted to a given position within the base member opening. The connector is thus releasably retained in position, whereupon the connector may be rigidly fastened to the base member by second fastener devices (4) operable from the front of the base member. Upon disconnection of the second fastener devices, the hook members may be manually compressed inwardly toward the connector to release the snap fastener retaining arrangement, whereupon the connector may be withdrawn from the base member opening.

  • Patent number: 4939784
Abstract: A dipole loudspeaker includes a rigid support containing an opening and a generally planar multi-layered flexible diaphragm mounted on the support and extending across the opening. The diaphragm is formed of a plurality of layers of thin flexible membrane material, each of the layers having a different height and containing a thin electrical conductor arranged in a predetermined pattern on one surface thereof. The conductor patterns on each of the membranes have different masses, whereby the membrane defines along its height areas of various thickness and varying mass whereby the membrane is suitable for more accurately reproducing or generating high and low frequencies when the electrical conductors are connected with a source of sound signal currents. A plurality of magnets are mounted in spaced relation opposite at least one surface of the membrane and the conductor patterns for vibrating the membrane to reproduce the sound in response to the sound signal currents through the conductor.

  • Patent number: 4932418
Abstract: A holder is disclosed for use with a needle for collecting blood from a donor, the needle having a sharp tip at one end and being mounted in a hub at the other end. The holder is in the form of an elongated tubular member made of plastic and which is open at one end to allow insertion of a blood collection tube and has an opening at the other end to allow insertion of the needle, the latter end being sized so as to allow the needle to pass through but to frictionally engage and snugly hold the hub of the needle when the needle is inserted therein. A cover is hingedly mounted on the holder for closing off the end for receiving the blood collection tube and a bracket is fixedly attached to the tubular member for mounting purposes. The holder may be used as a device for assisting a person in safely and easily inserting the type of needle described above into a blood collection tube and may also be used as a receptacle for temporary or permanent storge of such a needle.

  • Patent number: 4930605
Abstract: A parking brake assembly of the blind-cable-connection type including a backing plate containing an opening, a helical guide spring arranged to guide a flexible resilient inner cable member toward a ramp surface on a parking brake lever for the blind connection to the inner cable member to the lever, characterized in that the angle of inclination of the ramp surface relative to the cable axis is contained in a plane that is both parallel with the longitudinal axis of the lever and that is inclined at an acute angle relative to the axis of the inner cable member. This construction permits the parking brake lever to be simply and economically formed from a blank of flat metal stock, the cable-retaining slot being defined by a slot contained between bifurcated portions of the ramp surface. The helical guide spring includes portions having tightly wound turns, thereby to assist in connecting the spring with the backing plate and/or with the parking brake lever.

  • Patent number: 4929198
Abstract: A conductor connection assembly includes a U-shaped receptacle into which one can insert from above a screw-clamping assembly comprising a screw, a nut threadably connected with the screw, and a wire protection part in the form of a barrel spring or collar connected with the screw. On the nut, there are provided lateral protrusions adapted to fit within corresponding recesses provided in the side walls of the U-shaped receptacle. The screw clamping mechanism and the U-shaped receptacle are locked into position since the collar includes in the upper area thereof lateral shoulder projections which abut against the side edges of the side walls of the U-shaped receptacle upon activation of the screw to displace the clamping mechanism downwardly into the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4926868
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cardiac hemodynamic monitoring is described. It is based on the complex field amplitudes of microwaves propagated through and scattered by thoracic cardiovascular structures, particularly the heart chambers, as a function of time during the cardiac cycle. Movement artifact and signal leakage are controlled by the use of closely coupled, flexible, light weight, passivated, conformal microstrip antennas that operate in the UHF band. The basic measurement technique is vector network analysis of the power wave scattering parameter in forward scatter configurations of various projections such as posterioanterior (PA), left anterior oblique (LAO), and right anterior oblique (RAO). Non-invasive evaluation of hemodynamic aspects of cardiovascular function is provided. Calibration is possible in human subject without invasive methods.

  • Patent number: 4925553
Abstract: A pressurized oil filter/carbon separation device includes a housing containing a plurality of separator chambers, a transfer chamber and a filter chamber. The housing includes a dirty oil inlet through which lubricating oil from an internal combustion chamber is delivered the separator chambers for serial flow therethrough. Within each chamber, carbon particles from the lubricating oil are separated from the oil flow owing to the forces of gravity within each chamber. The carbon particles are allowed to exit the lower portions of the separator chamber via discharge pipes at the bottom of the housing. From the last separator chamber, the oil is delivered to the transfer chamber for introduction into a filter chamber which contains a mesh-type filter screen to remove further minute particulates from the oil. The filtered oil exits the housing via a plurality of openings at the top of the housing and is delivered by a discharge pipe back to the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 4922249
Abstract: A binary-to-bipolar converter converts two binary signals into positive and negative bipolar pulses alternately corresponding to a "1" logic state of two binary signals. The bipolar pulses are defined by the low output impedance states of two transfer gates. The main object of the invention is to reduce the transient trailing of the rear edges in the bipolar pulses. This can be obtained by delaying the drop from the low impedance state to the high output impedance state by means delaying control signals on the transfer gates, or by an integrator circuit applying calibrated pulses onto the output of the transfer gates, in response to the rear edges of the "1" logic states in the binary signals. The converter also calibrates the rise times of the bipolar pulses and allow the use of CMOS circuits upstream of the converter.

  • Patent number: 4913665
Abstract: In a multi-pole plug connector assembly including pin and socket housings having contact carrying inserts connected therewith, the fastening screws used to connect the inserts with the respective housings have three different head configurations to serve as coding elements for indicating proper orientation of the housings for plugging connection therebetween. One of the three different head configurations can be combined only with itself while the remaining two head configurations can be combined only with each other. A large number of coding possibilities can be obtained for a plurality of adjacent connector assemblies without increasing the space requirement of the assembly and without decreasing the number of poles or pins being connected.
