  • Patent number: 6719241
Abstract: A novel cable-tie off device for cable lifting assemblies (e.g. elevators and boat lifts) is disclosed herein. The device is an elongated member having, in a series, a head portion, a elongated shank portion, and an end portion. Immediately subjacent the head portion is a hole for maintaining the proximal end of a lifting cable therein. The elongated member is designed for engagement within a pair of holes drilled, in registration, through the spool of a winder assembly. When engaged within the spool holes, the elongated member securely maintains the proximal cable end held within the member between the head portion of the member and the outer surface of the spool. A fastener is secured to the end portion of the member to tightly maintain the member within the spool.

  • Patent number: 6679299
Abstract: A clip is disclosed which can be used to fabricate the lattice structure of reinforcing rods of the type used in the construction of steel rod reinforced concrete slabs. An apparatus to fasten those clips in position is also disclosed The preferred clip (1) has a substantially rectangular body (2). A recess (3) extends from a first face (4) of the body (2) towards an opposite face (5). The recess (3) terminates in an arcuate portion (6). The inner edges (7a, b) of the recess (3) are convergent towards the arcuate portion (6). The apparatus has an aperture (13) in a base plate (12). Stops (18a, b, c) on the plate (12) suitably position the apparatus whereupon a shearing plate (32) can shear a clip (1) from a stack of such clips to pass through the aperture (13) wherein the arcuate portion (6) of the clip (1) engages the upper rod (16). A pair of pivoting J-shaped arms (21a, b) are then actuated which bend the lower portions of the clip (1) around the lower rod (17) securing the two rods (16, 17) together.

  • Patent number: 6620321
Abstract: Improved biofilters for treating wastewater are disclosed. Specifically, certain aspects of the inventive biofilter comprise a water-tight, leak proof container housing a plurality of sacks stacked upon one another. Alternatively, the water-tight container may contain course sand for use as a re-circulating sand filtration unit. In the first embodiment, each sack contains a composition of filtering material through which the wastewater influent flows prior to removal from the biofilter via a pump tank. Other aspects of the present invention include a biofilter having a plurality of apertures disposed through the floor and through which the wastewater effluent may flow to the underlying ground. The invention is also directed to novel compositions of filtering material for use in the inventive biofilters as well as conventional biofilters. Preferred compositions comprise peat, coconut fibers, large or open cell film block pieces, and course sand.
