  • Patent number: 8333156
Abstract: A method provides for the traction control of a maglev car on a maglev track. A levitation magnetic field is produced by supplying a levitation magnetic flux on the car side to at least two levitation magnets to produce a defined air gap between the maglev car and a reaction rail on the track side. A stator current is supplied to the stator to produce a propulsion force on the maglev track, the propulsion force acts upon the maglev car being determined by the magnetic coupling between the magnetic stator field and the magnetic levitation field. An oscillating movement of the maglev car in relation to the magnetic stator field is dampened by changing the magnetic coupling between the magnetic stator field and the magnetic levitation field on the car side. The levitation magnets are operated on the car side with at least two different individual levitation magnetic fluxes.

  • Patent number: 8331416
Abstract: In a stripline laser, a gas mixture containing carbon dioxide is situated as a laser-active medium between two plate-type electrodes lying with their flat sides opposite one another. The electrodes define a discharge space, at whose end sides lying opposite one another a resonator mirror is respectively arranged. The resonator mirrors form an unstable resonator. To operate the stripline laser in the 9.3 ?m band and/or in the 9.6 ?m band, the electrodes are provided with a passivation layer on their flat sides. The passivation layer, of at least one electrode, contains silicon dioxide in a region covering a partial area of a flat side. A distance between the electrodes is set such that the attenuation of laser beams in the 10.3 ?m band and in the 10.6 ?m band is greater than the attenuation of laser beams in the 9.3 ?m band and/or in the 9.6 ?m band.

  • Patent number: 8326183
Abstract: A method for drying printed material operates with the aid of a one-dimensional or two-dimensional array of radiation sources which can be driven individually or in groups. At the same time, the high-resolution image data describing the printing image or a content of printing forms for individual color separations is transformed into image data of lower resolution. Position data which describes the position of the printed image in the transport direction is also obtained from a device for transporting the printing material. Control data for modulation of an intensity of the radiation sources or groups of radiation sources of the array are generated from the image data of lower resolution and the position data, so that the printing material is swept over in the transport direction with time-modulated radiation points which in each case include a plurality of image points of the higher-resolution printed image.

  • Patent number: 8321079
Abstract: An anti-collision control system for one or more vehicles fitted with an onboard automatic pilot (self-guiding) allowing for bi-directional movements on a single track under the control of a ground-based automated traffic control unit of the CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) type. The system includes: a signaling control unit of the AWS (Auxiliary Wayside System) type for controlling ground signals on a section of a single-direction circulation lane; a first default control means based on which the signaling control unit imposes a single-direction movement to the vehicle running on the section of a single-direction circulation lane in order to avoid any collision with another vehicle controlled solely by the signaling control unit of the AWS type, i.e. independently from the ground-based automated traffic control unit.

  • Patent number: 8320237
Abstract: A method for minimizing bandwidth allocation for alternative routes within a network provides a management system for managing routes of services, provides a plurality of guaranteed bandwidth (GWB) services, assigns to each GBW-service a traffic class (TC), and calculates for each GBW-service of a protected TC an active route and an alternative route. The active route is a planned route in case of absence of a respective network failure and the alternative route is the route which guarantees that, in case of a network failure with respect to the active route, the GBW-service is protected. Further, a first optimized protection mode is provided to be assigned to all the GBW-services belonging to a given protected TC. The first optimized protection mode has a first optimization step including reserving bandwidth for each GBW-service only once for each network resource employed by the active and/or the alternative route of each GBW-service.

  • Patent number: 8316467
Abstract: A cap, hat or other head covering, with pockets for carrying an MP3 player or other portable audio device and the wires and other related accessories. One of the pockets is structured to secure an audio device and the other pocket is structured to secure the headphone wires therein. By disposing the pockets on the headgear, the audio device is in close proximity to the wearer's head, thereby minimizing the length of wire extended between the audio device and the headphones or earplugs and allowing the wearer to perform a desired activity without the wires getting in the way.

  • Patent number: 8313962
Abstract: Hybrid integration of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) and/or other optical device components with silicon-based integrated circuits. A multitude of individual VCSELs or optical devices are processed on the surface of a compound semiconductor wafer and then transferred to a silicon-based integrated circuit. A specific sacrificial or removable separation layer is employed between the optical components and the mother semiconductor substrate. The transfer of the optical components to a carrier substrate is followed by the elimination of the sacrificial or separation layer and simultaneous removal of the mother substrate. This is followed by the attachment and interconnection of the optical components to the surface of, or embedded within the upper layers of, an integrated circuit, followed by the release of the components from the carrier substrate.
