  • Patent number: 4177469
Abstract: A recorder using a carbon backed "self-developing" dry silver recording medium which is guided over a recording and developing path includes a pair of rollers one of which is connected to a ground potential and the other to a positive potential with the electrically conducting carbon coated side of the recording medium arranged to contact both of the rollers to enable electrical current to pass through the carbon backing to generate the heat required to develop the recording thereon. A third roller is arranged to contact the recording medium on the recording side and to press the carbon coated side against a second location on the ground roller to provide a second current conducting path between the positive potential roller and the ground roller. The electrical current is controlled in accordance with the speed of the recording medium to insure a proper developing time relationship at different recording medium speeds.

  • Patent number: 4172280
Abstract: There is shown a digital output circuit wherein digital data from a computer based controller is applied as input signals to a set of holding latches which are, in turn, enabled by control circuitry such as by response to address signals. The digital data stored in the several holding latches are applied as input signals to a corresponding number of relay driver circuits. The relay driver circuits are, in one aspect of the invention, coupled to selectively operate output control relays in accordance with the data signals applied to the driver circuits therefor. In another form, the driver circuits are connected directly to an output circuit without the intervention of relays. Selective control is provided for establishing the relay output signal in a latched or holding mode or in a controlled time momentary closure mode. In the momentary closure mode the time is established by a data controlled counter.

  • Patent number: 4172259
Abstract: The beam of a line scan fiber optics cathode ray tube is intensity modulated and is repeatedly swept along the fiber optics strip of the tube by a horizontal deflection coil to place on a transversely moving record sheet recorded gray scale images which are representative of received data signals. A sheet velocity sensor, a frequency to voltage converter, and a differentiator produce a voltage signal proportional to short term sheet velocity errors, and an integrator converts that signal into a signal which represents the time integral of each of such errors. The integral signal controls a vertical deflection coil for the tube so that each of the sheet velocity errors is accompanied by a movement of the cathode ray tube beam in the vertical direction, and hence along the path of sheet travel. This vertical beam movement maintains the instantaneous relative velocity between the sheet and the beam substantially constant notwithstanding the short term sheet velocity errors.

  • Patent number: 4165512
Abstract: There has been provided, in accordance with the present invention, a recording system for light sensitive recording medium in which a latent image is developed by heating the photographic emulsion by means of a current passing through a conductive coating on the back of the record member. The record member is exposed to a light pattern to impose a latent image over a predetermined sheet length of recording medium. The recording medium is driven past the exposure station by a driving roller, a roller which may be the driving roller engaging the conductive back surface of the recording medium being grounded. The medium is driven past a shear mechanism to a clamp device. The clamp device grips the forward end of the record medium and serves as an electrode to pass an electrical current through the conductive back surface to the grounded roller to develop the latent image. The shear mechanism is then actuated to sever the sheet lengths. The clamp device then releases the severed sheets.

  • Patent number: 4163395
Abstract: A differential pressure to electrical signal transmitter has a pair of flat barrier diaphragms and a central control diaphragm located between the barrier diaphragms. First chambers between one of the barrier diaphragms and the control diaphragm, and a first length of capillary tubing connected between the first chambers and one chamber of a remotely located sensor capsule, are filled with a first incompressible fill liquid. Second chambers between the other barrier diaphragm and the control diaphragm, and a second length of capillary tubing connected between the second chambers and another chamber of the sensor capsule, are filled with a second incompressible fill liquid. The fill liquids are made to pump up their respective flat barrier diaphragms to cause the latter to have a dome shape and hence to be free from "oil canning." A chamber on the outside of one barrier diaphragm is pressurized with a first fluid, and a chamber on the outside of the other barrier diaphragm is pressurized with a second fluid.

  • Patent number: 4159489
Abstract: A magnetic record reproducing system preamplifier includes an inductive choke in the emitter circuit of a first stage transistor amplifier whereby to provide a frequency responsive variable input impedance whereby to maintain a proper impedance relationship between the inductive transducer and the input impedance of the first stage amplifier. A second stage transistor amplifier is connected to the output of the first stage amplifier in cascode relationship, reducing the effective voltage gain of the first stage to substantially zero. The choke in the input circuit of the first stage amplifier acts as a degenerative feedback at higher frequencies, effectively reducing the bias current through the first stage transistor. The base emitter capacitance of the first stage transistor tends to resonate with the inductance of the transducer. The effective degenerative feedback at that first stage transistor tends to push that resonant frequency beyond the desired or useful frequency band of the system.

  • Patent number: 4157509
Abstract: A variable reference signal generating circuit concurrently generating a high and a low reference signal and an analogue signal comparator having hysteresis are used to compare an input signal with the high and low reference signals to determine the relative level of the input signal with respect to the limits defined by the high and low reference signals. The signal comparators are switching comparators with hysteresis which switch their outputs between high and low levels in response to the detection of a change in a relative magnitude between the input signal and the reference signals. For an input close to the switching threshold of a comparator, the comparator may maintain an output level indicative of a prior relationship between the input signal and the reference signal while the input signal has actually changed to a magnitude which should be represented by a change in the comparator output level.

  • Patent number: 4149144
Abstract: A poll command is sent by a central station to a plurality of remote stations connected along a data highway system. Upon receipt of the poll command, a remote station which desires to transmit data to the central station, responds with a reply pulse in a specific time position following the poll command. The position of the reply pulse is measured relative to the end of the poll command from the central station. Upon transmission of the poll command by the central station, a counter is started at the central station to count clock pulses arranged to occur at the end of each possible reply pulse position. Upon receipt of a reply pulse from a remote station, the count in the counter, which represents the binary address of the replying station, is stored in a memory and a memory address counter is incremented to control the storing of successive binary addresses in consecutive memory locations.

  • Patent number: 4144751
Abstract: A square-wave signal generator circuit for generating a rectangular waveform signal particularly for application to the field coil of an electromagnetic flow meter. A coil excitation current from a direct current source is switched to provide a current flow in alternate directions through the field coil. During the transient time of the coil excitation current following the switching operation, a higher output voltage from the source is used to shorten the current rise and fall times while a lower voltage from the source is used during a steady state time of the excitation current to minimize power losses. A switching circuit using a switching transistor is used to select the higher voltage while a back-biased diode is used to immediately introduce the lower voltage when the excitation current has reached a steady state.
