  • Patent number: 5991957
Abstract: In the case of conventional toothbrushes whose bristles have all needlelike tapering tips, the bristles near the tips become too thin and too flexible. In the case of toothbrushes whose bristle ends are all round or hemispherical, it is difficult to get into the spaces between teeth or boundary spaces between teeth and gums. Thus, it is difficult for conventional toothbrushes to clean up in every nook and corner in the mount. A toothbrush comprising a block head having brush portion, a handle and a neck portion connecting the block head with the handle, wherein a part of the tufts of the brush portion are made up of filament with polygonal cross section, and the rest of the tufts are made up of sheath-core structural filament whose core material is covered with sheath material such that the filaments are circular in cross-section, with the sheath material being concentric to the core material.

  • Patent number: 5928972
Abstract: To improve adhesive power to the skin without impairing excellent gas permeability and water vapor permeability when a laminate film comprising a film, a fiber fabric and an adhesive layer is sealed by heating at the same time in order to prevent an invasion of liquid from a side of the adhesive bandage. In an adhesive bandage comprising a base sheet made by laminating a film on a thermoplastic fiber fabric and an adhesive layer set on a surface of the thermoplastic fiber fabric of the base sheet, the adhesive bandage is pattern-sealed. The heat seal is preferably performed under the condition that the film does not melt but the thermoplastic fiber fabric melts, and only the periphery of the adhesive bandage may be pattern-sealed.

  • Patent number: 5908039
Abstract: A dental floss comprising a multifilament yarn having at least one coating applied thereon. The yarn comprising the floss is substantially untwisted and comprises entanglement nodes having a frequency of between about 0.5 and about 3.5 inches. The yarn has a basis weight between about 500 and about 1200 denier. The coating applied to the yarn comprises a water-insoluble binder. Optionally, the floss may be coated with a second coating material comprising a water soluble substance such as polyethylene glycol for delivery of additives or additional flavors. With little or no twist and an optimum degree of air-entanglement, the yarn is held together loosely enough to allow a significant amount of coating material to be impregnated between the filaments but tight enough to provide shred and fray resistance and still have supple feel.

  • Patent number: 5814031
Abstract: This invention relates to a composition containing a hydrophobic solvent, a network polymer and a flow control agent which is useful in healing wounds. The composition of this invention may be applied directly to a wound to create a structured occlusive dressing. The dressings of this invention do not migrate, but maintain their integrity at skin temperature, and encourage the creation of a moist wound environment while protecting the wound in order to accelerate healing.
